A good chunk of the My Chemical Romance fanbase dislikes Gerard Way's Hesitant Alien due to how different it is to the band's previous works when it was active, but I personally love it. Even though he went with a different style and vibe it is still Gerard, and the songs are as lyrically powerful as they have always been.

But at the same time Danger Days got a lot of backlash for being too different to their previous works. I guess people just hate things they aren't used to.
