Top Ten Solos Not On Electric Guitar

The Top Ten
1 Lingus - Snarky Puppy (Cory Henry Keyboard/Organ Solo)

You have to check it out. It's the greatest solo ever.

2 5115 - The Who (John Entwhistle Bass Solo)
3 Anestheia (Pulling Teeth) - Metallica (Cliff Burton Bass Solo)
4 Innuendo - Queen (Steve Howe Acoustic Solo)
5 Wynona's Big Brown Beaver - Primus (Les Claypool Bass Solo)
6 Painkiller - Judas Priest (Scott Travis Drum Solo)
7 Highway Star - Deep Purple (Jon Lord Organ Solo)
8 Give It Away - Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Flea Bass Solo)
9 For Whom the Bell Tolls (Live Big Day Out) - Metallica (Robert Trujillo Bass Solo)
10 Dying Song - Metal Allegiance (Mike Portnoy Drum Solo)

I would say these are fills and not a solo

The Contenders
11 Pictures of Home - Deep Purple (Roger Glover Bass Solo)

Speaking of non-electric guitar solos, this song is unique because it has 3 solos of this type but the bass solo is the most unusual.

1) the bass solo is really cool, it's the climax of the song and it's long enough to create a melody.

2) there were not many bass solos circa 1970

3) besides the bass solo, there is also a drum intro solo and a keyboard solo (and 2 guitar solos but they don't count here). This is definitely a song of solos and the solos are so holistically connected that they don't sound like patches put here and there.

I have said it many times and will say it again: Deep Purple are one of the most unique and most talented bands ever, and it's so said that their songs are not known (except for Smoke on the Water).

12 Detonation - Annihilator (Mike Mangini Drum Solo)

It's a drum intro solo

13 All for One - Primal Fear (Randy Black Drum Solo)

Amazing - the song meaning culminates in a 35 sec long drum solo, which sounds like a choir of machine guns.

Randy Black doesn't just play a bunch of notes - he puts meaning in these notes. He's a drummer that deserves more attention.

14 Ultra Motion - Annihilator (Randy Black Drum Solo)
15 Toad - Cream [Ginger Baker drum solo]
16 A Light in the Black - Rainbow (Tony Carey Keyboard Solo)
17 No Quarter (Live) - Led Zeppelin (John Paul Jones Piano Solo)
18 Butterflies & Hurricanes - Muse (Matthew Bellamy Piano Solo)
19 Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd (Violin Solo)
