Top Ten Solos In Thrash Metal

The Top Ten
1 Tornado Of Souls - Megadeth

Who doesn't know of Marty Friedman's famous classic Tornado of Souls solo?
Song fact : When Marty finished recording the solo to Tornado of Souls, Dave Mustaine entered the studio and listened to it once. He turned to Marty, speechless and shook his hand.

It's a solo in thrash metal. But its not a thrash metal solo. It's a neoclassical metal solo.

I have heard this solo is one of the hardest solos to learn on guitar. It’s one of the most breathtaking solos I have heard though

Cheesy, mediocre song with awesome neoclassical solo as zxm said.

2 Fade To Black - Metallica

Kirk Hammet's beautiful intro and outro solos in Fade To Black are his most classic and beloved ones and it isn't hard to see why.

3 Floods - Pantera

Not thrash, and anyway, if it was, why put it at 6? It is the greatest solo ever of any music genre, nothing even comes close. So, if you are counting this anyway, number 6?!

Emotion literally pours out through Dimebag Darrell's guitar in the solo to Floods. It's hard to get out of your head, once heard.

1. Its not a thrash metal solo.
2. Its not a great solo. Objectively. A good solo is consisted of well made licks. This solos doesn't have well made licks. Even the dive bombs were misplaced.
3. People who say it's a very emotional solo confuse the outro with the solo. It wasn't any solo but some repetitive licks.

4 Nosferatu - Coroner

In spite of making such brilliant music, Coroner is one of the most underrated bands in Thrash Metal. The Nosferatu solo is one of the best solos in their discography.

Beautiful and very neo-classical

5 Hangar 18 - Megadeth

The solos at the end of Hangar 18 played by Marty and Mustaine, are total mind-blowers. Technically complex, involving exotic Eastern scales and melodies, and played with amazing technique, the solos are definitely masterpieces.

6 Damage Inc - Metallica

Kirk goes crazy on his Gibson Flying V, in Damage Inc, form the classic Master of Puppets album.

7 Schizos (Are Never Alone) Parts I & II - Annihilator

Not worse than Alison Hell, if not better. I personally think this one is better.

8 Over The Wall - Testament

Composed and played by Alex Skolnick when he was only 19. The solo is a perfect balance between melody and technicality. Every Testament solo is a jewel and it was hard to pick out the best one.

Jeff Waters, Marty Friedman and Alex Skolnick - the best thrash soloists.

9 Alison Hell - Annihilator

After being blown away by some killer thrash metal riffs, we are blown further away with the astonishing solo in Alison Hell, Annihilator's masterpiece.

10 Holy Wars...The Punishment Due - Megadeth
The Contenders
11 Master of Puppets - Metallica
12 Dyers Eve - Metallica

So underrated! This is right on par with Tornado of Souls

13 My Last Words - Megadeth

Defines thrash metal solo

14 No Love - Exodus
15 Hit the Lights - Metallica
16 Creeping Death - Metallica
17 Elimination - Overkill

Wow, number 11? Should be 2, only behind tornado. Brilliant solo, thrash guitarists should look up to this.

A fun solo in a fun song.

20 Seasons In the Abyss - Slayer
21 A Lesson In Violence - Exodus
