Top Ten Best Songwriters of the 21st Century
Queen of my life
I think Sia is the best singer because her songs really have so much emotion connected to them. Her songs also helped me to push through depression and my life really is so much brighter. Her voice may not be the most smooth but there is nothing more beautiful than her occasional voice cracks in her elastic heart and bird set free. She is my role model for life.
She have to be in that high spot so much!
The queen of music
Obviously the best writing songs like Diamonds-Rihanna and Pretty Hurts-Beyonce and Cheap Thrills and She really is the GREATEST! (Pun Intended)
If you havn't heard the soundtrack of Submarine, do yourself a favor and give it a listen. It shows the romantic side of Alex Turner and gives a look into what he is capable of.
His lyrics are powerful and inventive in ways you wouldn't even think of. However, I was surprised to see him on this list, since he's not as well-known as the other artists, but it made me so happy. I'm not the only one who appreciates his insane talent! Half the artists on here only write parts of their songs, but Alex writes so much, with such quality... how is he not number one? "Just 'cause we're having a say-so, not lining up to be playdough, in five years time, will it be, who the f***'s Arctic Monkeys? " One of the best lyrics ever, so reflective and honest. PLEASE VOTE!
With a strong Cohen influence, his lyrics fluctuate between highly vivid descriptions, powerful poetic images and humorous social commentary, making him one of the greatest songwriters (if not the greatest) in modern music.
Absolute genius! His lyrics have changed my life in a way I can't describe, they transcend the realm of what can be fully understood, all I can say is I simply feel something from his lyrics that I don't feel from any other source.
Her dark themes, beautiful imagery and endless references to music culture make her one of the best.
Light of my life, fire of my loins
She is a poetry!
LDR is so incredibly versatile. From the early years: "You Can Be The Boss" to "For K (pts. 1&2); from more recent years: "National Anthem" to "Ultraviolence". Not to mention, the woman can include incredible versatility within just one song (ex. "Ride" â€" starts with 'You can be my full time daddy', chorus includes â€" 'Been trying hard not to get into trouble, but I've got a war in my mind'). Whether you're in the mood to GET down or whether you're FEELING down, LDR has a song for it.
Her constant allusions are absolutely amazing and educated, too. Some of the tracks she released in her early Lizzy Grant/May Jailer/Lana Del Mar/Lana Del Ray years were full of brilliant allusions. In "Methamphetamines", she makes an impressive comment about pink flamingos. The pink flamingo decor you see in tacky yards today were once considered a symbol of wealth due to Bugsy Siegel's hotel.
That doesn't even begin to cover the beauty and versatility of LDR. I truly believe she, if ...more
She's the ultimate GODESS of art!
Taylor deserves to be at a higher position than this. She has always been a great songwriter. Moreover, she definitely got better at folklore.
She should totally be at the top. Most people say she only writes about her exes but that is not true. She also writes about true love, Kanye, being 15, turning 22, haters, her reputation, a friend with an eating disorder, a little boy who died of cancer, and many other things.
Many people claim all her songs are breakup songs, but some of here best songs are not breakup songs and have beautiful lyrics. Ronan, back to December, all too well, invisible, innocent, and clean
It hurts to see how many people hate her and don't listen toh her albums because of her lead singles. Her lead singles are always kind of poppy and generic lyric wise but the real lyrical masterpieces are hidden in her albums. So many people are missing out on her only because of the online hate trend that Miss Swift falls in for no reason. She is yhe best of our generation💯
She has that 'wild' look and sound to her. Best singles: Domino, Party In The U.S. A (which she sold to Miley) and Price Tag. She has others that I love and like.
He is (in my personal opinion) the best singer song writer of out generation. When he performs live is like he's in the studio. There is no magic involved just Ed, his paw print guitar, loop pedal and heavenly voice. Fame hasn't changed him in the slightest. He still sofa surfs. Be that from his family or friends houses or his own. Every lyric has meaning and isn't about sex drugs and RockNRoll or bigging himself up. Even his album cover for X is simply that. An X. He doesn't need to brag about his fame and fortune and celebrity status. He is a role model to every teenager, young adult and adult out there. I'm sorry if I'm blabbing. He even went to Afghanistan to do a private gig for the lads on tour (my brother was amongst the crowd) he is what we need in a generation of drugs, violence and hate. Just to prove you can still be mellow and be loved. So much respect for this man.
He makes great music. I love his songs like Photograph and Thinking out loud. I think he is the best songwriter overall.
The a team and Lego house are such great songs. Not to mention that he wrote some songs for one direction.
Most diverse writer with best lyrics
In my opinion, he is the greatest songwriter and lyricist of all time. Everything he writes is incredibly clever, deep, vulnerable, honest, and brilliant. The lyrics are intensely passionate and sometimes written with anguish but also hope. There is nothing he writes that is simple. Most lyrics take on multiple meanings and can be interpreted differently by different people. He has had a profound impact on his fans with lyrics that are able to bridge the gap between the listener and the song. He has saved lives and gained the most passionate and loyal following of any current bands fanbase that will always last for people like me.
Tyler Joseph writes about personal things, stuff no one is willing to talk about, and he is actually one songwriter/singer that doesn't talk about drugs and sex. TYLER JOSEPH RULES!
Tyler Robert Joseph is an American musician, singer/songwriter, and rapper. He is the lead vocalist and keyboardist for American musical duo Twenty One Pilots.
All his lyrics are... deep.
He is one of the best songwriters of all time, in my opinion.
The raw emotion in his songs are... everything.
What is wrong with everyone for not vote for one of the best if not the greatest hip-hop artists of all time? His lyrics span from funny, inspirational to depressing
He is an inspirational writer
Bet rapper of all time
Writes from her broken heart and the genuine raw hurt and anguish in her songwriting is what makes her one of the most successful artists today. Everyone can relate to heartbreak and Adele does it better than any today.
She is truly incomparable, I've seen many try to match her voice but it is impossible. Best singles: They are all amazing, my personal favourites are Someone like you and Chasing Pavements.
She's simply amazing and her music, lyris, and awards talk for her.
He has written so many songs that have lyrical meaning. Sure, many people can create a catchy tune that rhymes, but not many can create a catchy tune that rhymes that really has meaning. He's written hits for Beyonce, Adele, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, OneRepublic, and many more. He's a genius.
Multi dimensional song writing. Just think about lyrics and music of "Counting stars".
Genius behind so many hits we hear today.
He’s crazily talented. He’s not scared to talk about huge society problems like environment and mental health, and he often uses crazy methapors.Love him!
His songs are still the best I've ever heard and he is one amazing guy.
Incomparable - world legend
Woah, I love his songs! Best singles: Let Me Entertain You, Candy (I love this one! ) and others ♥ :).
He is the coolest EVER
Should be number 1. Lyrics are strong and can be interpreted the way you need. Pure talent
Listen to Aenima and Lateralus with the lyrics in front of you...
Read his lyrics then vote.
Saved my life
I love his songs, they're just so up-beat and fun, most of them. Best singles: Grenade :) and others but this is my favourite!
Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Pink are not Songwriters.
Frank ocean is the Kurt cabin of the 21st century. Oceans use of metaphors in every line of every verse drawn from real life experience is unparalleled in todays music scene he doesn't care what anyone else thinks and does what he likes on his own terms.
"Created the most nuanced album of the 21st century, Channel Orange. The title doesn't do justice to the many colors this project is painted with. Ocean has also written for the likes of Beyonce and Jay Z."
Gosh I love Katy Perry, but her thing with Rob pushed her down a bit. Best singles: Californian Girls, Last Friday Night, Firework, and plenty more - how could I forget Part Of Me and Wide Awake?
Katy perry wrote great songs!
She can't write songs.
This whole list is a joke, Miley Cyrus probably doesn't even write her own music, you should be putting down guys like Gerard Way, Billie Joe Armstrong, Matt Schultz, Jack White, etc. Guys like this actually make points and cover important and deep subjects with their music, not just dumb crap about having fun, the only people I would leave on this list are Eminem and Ed sheeran. And for me they would be pretty far up the list
She gained and lost popularity in Hannah Montana but overall it was a boost for her position. Best singles: Climb, I'll always remember you, Can't be tamed and perhaps her best is party in the U.S. A, which sadly doesn't count as Jessie J wrote it.
What the hell? Miley Cyrus, Robbie Williams? come on, let's put a real musician on this list! Alex Turner and Ed Sheeran should definitely be higher than Miley Cyrus or Robbie Williams...
Should be in the top ten. Even twenty years after his rise to fame with Oasis, he can still an amazing, heart wrenching song.
