Top Ten Songs that are Called Heavy Metal but are Not
The Top Ten
Believe it or not but I was working on a similar list and Paranoid was my #1, too. I will add some more songs that were on my draft.
I'm glad how here is someone else who agree the most things with me about metal...
Yeah I agree with @Metal_Treasure,its more harder than hard rock but not really metal
I believe Black Sabbath is the first Heavy Metal band and this song in particular is admired by much of the heavy metal community. To me it's metal, but a lot of the time, distinguishing between metal and hard rock is just splitting hairs.
Black Sabbath is obviously a Heavy Metal band, but this song is just Hard Rock!
Heavy for the Beatles, but no Heavy Metal!
Many people say this is the first metal riff... however this is not even hard rock, this is just a simple mid '60s garage rock song
You're right. It's WAY too musical to ever be mistaken for metal.
Again Hard Rock.
I've said several times on different lists that many metal-related articles on wiki contain ridiculous and misleading statements. Not long ago I explained why "Immigrant Song" is nowhere near viking metal (wiki says it though) - viking metal is a version of black metal with Nordic folk music influences (bands like Bathory).
@zxm @Metal_Treasure and the same thing with Bohemian Rhapsody... when I first saw there were only Progressive Rock, few months later Hard Rock and Progressive Rock, now Hard Rock and Heavy Metal... LOL
I thought nobody on earth thinks how this song is metal.. and then I saw the wikipedia...
@zxm - haha, maybe next week this song will also become thrash and death metal.
I have seen someone stating that the guitar solo (and the hard rock part at the end) had a great influence on Iron Maiden.
Judas Priest is certainly a metal band but this song isn't metal.
Yeah this is just progressive rock! But if Sad Wings of Destiny, Tyrant is a great metal song from the album!
Queen has really some metal songs, but this isn't that!
Only heavy psychedelic rock, but no heavy metal!
Can't be more hard rock than this. I love this song though.
It's punk based isn't it?
It's metal. even if its not pure but it's partial heavy metal.
Grunge not Metal.
This is progressive rock
Wait this isn't metal?
I think Metal_Treasure would say it is blues and not classical influenced.
There is a sub genre that is called glam metal so its metal but its still hard rock to the 80s hard rock bands
Where do you hear metal in this song at all?
It's hard rock as it gets.
But one of the best hard rock songs ever made.
Hard Rock, Not Metal easy to distinguish the two.
Not even close to metal.
Again, far too musical, aesthetically pleasing, instrumentally and vocally engrossing and structurally sound to EVER be mistaken for metal.
It's a hard rock cover of Slade.
So fast and screaming equals metal? You could say the same thing about a cat fight.
Haha, who would confuse this with metal?
This is Hard Rock not Metal
Great song but its not metal on wikipedia it says its progressive metal which is false
Pure hard rock, I dunno why it's considered to be heavy metal everywhere...
It's one of the least metal songs by Dio
It has really nothing to do with metal... harmonica gives a blues sounding to it, but the rest it's a hard rock song
Just Like I'm a Rebel, it's pure hard rock... I dunno how it sounds like metal to some people...
Sex Pistols sounding punk rock
This one is the most common of them all... fast paced hard rock and it has more punk influences than metal, even Lemmy admitted it
The people who say it's metal are idiots who don't even have a clue on what metal is. This is Alt. Rock.
The guitars are punk and the screaming doesn't make it like metal too.
