Rocking With Regret: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet By Avenged Sevenfold

Well it has been a long time since i did one of these because this album is so bad that it made me comeback to doing these. This is going to be torturous for me so i hope you enjoy me having to listen to this torture but anyway lets get on to the review.

Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is the debut album for the band Avenged Sevenfold, It was released on June 10, 2001 by Good Life Recordings, and re-released by Hopeless Records on March 19, 2002, featuring slightly different cover art. The album was recorded in November 2000 at Westbeach Recorders in California. Although the album only sold 300 copies in its first week of release. This album is a Metalcore album and is very different to their later works such as City of Evil, Avenged Sevenfold, and Nightmare so fans of those albums might be surprised with what they find here.

But i want to get this torture over with so here's the review for each track

To End the Rapture

An Awful opening track to an awful album the piano is ok but the vocals are just whiny and sound so childish although there really isn't much to say here so lets move on.
Rating 4/10

Turn the Other Way

Oh god the screams in this song are awful plus the production is pretty bad although this album was made on budget of $2000 so i'm not surprised
Rating 4/10

Darkness Surrounding

Oh god more awful screams this album is filled with them and this track is another awful track although this track is much better than the last two were at least because the guitar riffs are much better here.
Rating 5/10

The Art of Subconscious Illusion

Another track with awful screams but whats interesting is that this track features Valary DiBenedetto which is M. Shadows Wife and she also does awful screams in this song. This song is just more awfulness on this album.
Rating 4/10

We Come Out at Night

This album just keeps on getting worse as it seems every track has awful vocals in it. The guitar riffs are pretty forgettable as well i think this might actually be the worst song on this album as the vocals here are the the worst i have heard so far on this album.
Rating 4/10

Lips of Deceit

Oh god i was wrong this is even worse than the last track The riffs are just awful and add more awful screams and you will get this song. This album so far is one of the worst albums i have ever heard.
Rating 4/10

Warmness on the Soul

This track is the best of the album and its mediocre at best because the vocals are still bad just not as bad as the others plus M. Shadows sounds so childish in this track but otherwise this is probably the only listenable song on this album.
Rating 6/10

An Epic of Time Wasted

Well at least this track starts off pretty descent until you get to the screams which are still awful its such a shame because this track is better than most of the songs on this album because the guitar riffs are actually pretty descent but its the screams that ruin it but other than that this is probably the only other listenable song on this album.
Rating 6/10

Breaking Their Hold

Oh god this song is just awful the screams and the guitar riffs are just awful. I would avoid listening to this track as its pretty short and awful this is one of the worst songs i have heard in the rock genre.
Rating 3/10

Forgotten Faces

After a really awful track we get another track with awful vocals and forgettable guitar riffs. There's not much to say here so lets move on.
Rating 4/10

Thick and Thin

Another awful track on this album but at least this track isn't as bad as the others were.
Rating 5/10

Streets

At least the beginning is pretty descent but other than that this track is pretty forgettable and plus M. Shadows doesn't scream through the entire song thank the lord this is the only track where the vocals aren't awful so its going to get a point for that.
Rating 6/10

Shattered by Broken Dreams

Finally the last track and this track is at least descent its much better than most of the tracks on this album plus it has a pretty descent guitar solo descent guitar solo but unfortunately its ruined by the screams which is such a shame because this could have been a good track.
Rating 5/10

Now after reviewing all of the songs lets add up all of these scores
4+4+5+4+4+4+6+6+3+4+5+6+5 = 60
but since there is 13 tracks its going to lose 30 points

Album Rating 30/100

This has to be one of the worst albums i have ever heard the best tracks were mediocre at best and the worst tracks were really bad so if i were you i would avoid this album at all costs.

Comments

I've only listened to Waking the Fallen (okay, I guess), their self-titled (love it, has some nostalgia), Nightmare (pretty good) and The Stage (favorite album by them). Still have to listen to City of Evil and I don't really care for Hail to the King. But this album, I purposely avoided because even die hard A7X fans told me this album isn't very good. - cjWriter1997

Worst album of 2001 - visitor

I should probably avoid this album. - wrests

Yeah defiantly - visitor

I didn't about such album... - visitor

Didn't know * - visitor

Good post. The one good thing about having a bad debut album is it means that you can make a mediocre second album and people will say you improved. - Skullkid755

Yup pretty much the case here - visitor

Holy crap. Worse than Lulu? - AlphaQ

At least Lulu had its own sound this was just generic and awful - visitor

This has got to be top three material for one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard in my life. It goes from the horrible screaming, and then it calms down for a bit, and it doesn’t seem so bad, and then it makes my ears bleed with the awful screaming. Nowhere near as bad as Got Your Six by Five Finger Death Punch, but that’s really easy for me to say because that’s probably the worst album I’ve ever heard in my life. - visitor
