Best Songs from Blind Guardian's First 3 Albums
It makes sense to talk about their first 3 albums because Blind Guardian began changing their style after them in search of a new music identity. The process started in the 3rd album but it wasn't completed in it.Their first 3 albums contained mostly speed metal - fast, raw and aggressive songs, touching on thrash metal. Band members admitted that in the 80s they listened to Bay Area Thrash a lot.
On Blind Guardian's first 3 albums there were also some power metal songs though their version of power metal was heavier than the average in this subgenre.
Albums:
1988 - Battalions of Fear
1989 - Follow The Blind
1990 - Tales From The Twilight World
1988.
Speed metal at its best for 7:30 minutes.
Majesty is the first track on their debut album. What a great career start!
By the way, their drummer was only 17 when they recorded it.
I got to listen to more of them. I've only listened to Wheel of Time, which is an EPIC song.
1989.
I used to play this song on a loop. But even now, when I hear it, one listen isn't enough - I need at least two (usually the live version from the live DVD Imaginations Through The Looking Glass).
1989.
Valhalla became one of their most popular songs, mostly for the chorus and the riff, even more popular than Majesty and Banish From Sanctuary.
My favorite versions: either the re-recorded version 2012 or, even better, the live version from the live DVD Imaginations Through The Looking Glass).
1988.
One of the fastest songs in their discography and one of the most aggressive
1990.
This is their first slower song. Written way before the famous film series, the song got more attention after the series. Hansi Kursch is one of the biggest Tolkien fans in the world.
This song contains probably the best lyrics I have ever heard.
