Greatest Songs by Black Music Artists

These black artists as made history with these songs
The Top Ten
1 Billie Jean-Michael Jackson

Definitely one on the best!

Best pop song of all time.

2 I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston

Much better by Dolly Parton, who wrote it.

3 Respect - Aretha Franklin
4 Purple Rain - Prince
5 Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder
6 No Woman No Cry - Bob Marley
7 Sexual Healing - Marvin Gaye
8 At Last - Etta James
9 All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey

To be honest... I always thought she was white. Could it be she's biracial? Because, neither her skin color nor her facial features really look typically black.

10 I Say a Little Prayer - Dionne Warwick

This is one of the greatest songs of all time in my opinion. There is also a famous cover by Aretha Franklin. Both version are beautiful. Warwick's version is more uplifting, and she sings the melody more strictly, Franklin's sounds more dramatic, with a choir and a dominant piano, and she takes many liberties with the melod, and almost constantly belts.

Your point is taken that this particular number really doesn't lend itself to Aretha's style, although she has done "soft(er) and sweet" with considerable aplomb in her career. But when it comes to sheer virtuosity with stunning power, control, and the ability to raise goose flesh at her will, it's Aretha, hands down.
