Songs that Define the Subgenre of Heavy Metal
What it's all about.
Personally my favourite judas priest song. Just awesome.
By Savatage - the most underrated metal band of all time.
Just because a song is called "Heavy Metal" doesn't mean it defines it the most. Possessed wrote a song called Death Metal, and I can think of many other death metal songs that define the genre more than that.
Only Songs That Are In The Heavy Metal Subgenre Are Allowed
Edguy play mostly power metal but this song isn't power metal - it's heavy metal. An awesome song with great vocals and chorus. It gives me an Iron Maiden-ish vibe.
Among the newer metal bands, currently Primal Fear play the purest form of heavy metal and they often sound like an updated version of Judas Priest. Well, somebody has to keep traditions alive. Primal Fear also play speed and power metal, so they have songs from 3 subgenres but it's not difficult to group the songs.
A great song by a great band. Iced Earth play a thrashy version of heavy metal - it's because Jon Schaffer usually plays thrashy riffs.
Blind Guardian play different subgenres but this song is heavy metal for me (not power, speed, or whatever else). One of my favorite Blind Guardian songs - a very intense song with great vox, chorus and riff.
This song is like a baby that has the features of Iced Earth and Blind Guardian combined: guitars and music written by Jon Schaffer, and vocals and lyrics written by Hansi Kursch. Can't get any better.
The riff and drum solo in the middle of the song are awesome.
