Best Songs from Gentle Giant's Acquiring the Taste

Gentle Giant were an English progressive rock band active between 1970 and 1980. Acquiring the Taste is their 2nd album and was released in 1971.
The Top Ten
1 The House the Street the Room

By far my favorite song on the album, as I find it to be an extremely dense song with a great amount of experimentation and complexity. The vocals are also at their best here. The buildup to the electric guitar is extremely good.

2 The Moon is Down

A very good song with an incredible amount of layering. It's also a great idea to listen to this particular song with headphones so you can here the sound constantly jump from one side to the other, further adding to the quirkiness of it.

3 Wreck

I did not expect this rocked out sea shanty to just be in the middle of an album like this. It's easily the catchiest and most fun song that they've ever made and is probably my recommendation to anyone new to the band.

4 Pantagruel's Nativity

This is a really weird song to me. Everything sort of drones on for a bit longer than expected and gives the song a slightly off putting tone. It's a very interesting song in general.

5 Black Cat

An extremely funky song bordering on lounge music at times. I really love how near the end they manipulate the instruments to sound like a cat, it's a cool touch.

6 The Plain Truth

I find this one to be a bit too repetitive at some points, but still have a great amount of technicality in what they play, as well as it being a fairly entertaining song nonetheless.

7 Edge of Twilight

I don't find this one to be anything that special, just a fairly standard song by their standards, although I love the bass in it.

8 Acquiring the Taste

An ok, weird interlude bridging the gap between my two favorite songs on the album.
