Top Ten Songs to Get You Into the Blues

The Top Ten
1 Smokestack Lightning - Howlin' Wolf

One of the first blues songs I had ever heard a couple of years ago.

2 The Thrill is Gone - B.B. King
3 Rollin' Stone - Muddy Waters
4 Born Under a Bad Sign - Albert King
5 Texas Flood - Stevie Ray Vaughan
6 Sweet Home Chicago - Robert Johnson
7 Boom Boom - John Lee Hooker
8 Driftin' and Driftin' - The Paul Butterfield Blues Band

This song is just one of so so many of theirs which new Blues listeners should listen to.

9 Damn Right, I've Got the Blues - Buddy Guy
10 The Sky Is Crying - Elmore James
The Contenders
11 Three O'Clock Blues - B.B. King
12 Still Got the Blues - Gary Moore
13 Love Me Like a Man - Bonnie Raitt

Not so long ago, I refused to listen to any type of blues - I just wasn't interested. This is one of the very first songs I can remember being suggested to me by someone who thought they could change my mind... :) I'm very surprised by how quickly I fell for it. I haven't looked back since.

14 Sugar Mama - Bonnie Raitt
15 Havin' a Real Bad Day - Taj Mahal
16 Forty Days and Forty Nights - Muddy Waters

This is the first one which I listened to after being suggested to me. I didn't really feel in the mood to listen because at that time Blues really didn't interest me. Anyway, I DID take the time to listen to it and was surprised how much I loved it. This song was closely followed by:

Love Me Like A Man - Bonnie Raitt
Sugar Mama - Bonnie Raitt
It Hurts Me Too - Elmore James
The Sky Is Crying - Elmore James
Havin' A Real Bad Day -Taj Mahal
Driftin' and Driftin' - The Paul Butterfield Blues Band

And some others I can't remember right now, but it doesn't make them any less important. Blues has become my life. I couldn't imagine my life without it, even if I wanted to.
