Top 10 Songs to Get You Into Power Metal

Some of the best power metal songs are not on this list because they are too long, too complex, too progressive or just too fast for beginners.
But it depends on the level of the beginner - if you are new to metal but already like Iron Maiden for example, power metal wouldn't be a problem.
I also tried to include typical power metal songs and not the best songs by these bands because some songs by power metal bands aren't typical power metal songs.

Power metal is fast and epic but it's very melodic and not very heavy. It's not extreme. It usually has great clean vocals and guitar work.
The Top Ten
1 Land of the Free - Gamma Ray

Getting into power metal is very easy. I got into it very quickly. But yeah, it's a very good song to start with. The chorus itself will do the work.

2 I Want Out - Helloween

This is probably the only power metal song that went famous even outside of power metal.

3 Father Time - Stratovarius

This is a very typical power metal song, one of the most typical ones on this list - its tempo, drum beat, high pitched vocals, etc.

Yes, This song can be a very good start for Power metal

4 Nightfall - Blind Guardian

To me this is the most beautiful power metal song.

5 I Am - Theocracy

This song is longer but it's not very heavy or fast and I think it would be OK. This song is actually progressive power metal. Christian progressive power metal.

6 Save Us Now - Edguy

Ok, it's time to try a faster song - it's still very melodic and the chorus is catchy.

7 Last Before the Storm - Gamma Ray
8 Vain Glory Opera - Edguy

This song is so Iron Maiden-ish: gallop and Tobias Sammet voice resembles Bruce Dickinson's.

9 Mirror, Mirror - Blind Guardian
10 The Scarecrow - Avantasia

This is also long and epic but not very heavy or fast.

The Contenders
11 Through the Fire and Flames - Dragonforce

I agree it would be easy because the melody he sings is very poppy. I realise that some beginners are people who listened to pop music until yesterday and they just can't get into more typical metal songs for one day. It takes time. Yes, beginners would relate to this song easier but I don't think it's the singing that would attract them - it's the melody of the vocal line which is basically pop.

Agreed with christangrant, I listened this song after getting into power metal. but its good for starters. I think the singing of this song was the thing to attract listeners.

Yes I added this because it would be a good start for Power Metal

12 Out of Control - Edguy

With additional vocals from Hansi Kursch ("my life is chamber of...").

13 Bright Eyes - Blind Guardian

Thanks for adding this song, zxm. It's one of my favorite Blind Guardian songs but I didn't add it myself because I feel it's a heavier and more complex song that may not be suitable for beginners.
I think it's a pretty odd song - music, lyrics and vocals. I needed to listen to it several times but if somebody understands and likes this song, he/she isn't at the lowest beginner level.
Also, sometimes I think this song isn't exactly power metal.

This song became my favorite BG song from hearing it for first time.

14 Hunting High and Low - Stratovarius
15 Renegade - Hammerfall

The song that got me into power metal as well as metal in general. Perfect for beginners.

16 Anywhere in the Galaxy - Gamma Ray
17 Nemo - Nightwish
18 Anthem - Iced Earth

I do LOVE this song but I don't think it's power metal. It's just heavy metal.

It can inspire a suicidal person.

19 Lost in Space - Avantasia
20 Forever and One - Helloween
21 King of Fools - Edguy
22 Fury of the Storm - Dragonforce

Just like Through the Fire and Flames a good start for beginners (This and Through the Fire and Flames got some people into Power Metal cause they were in Guitar Hero)

23 Eagle Fly Free - Helloween
24 The Trooper - Iron Maiden

I may get some trouble for putting this one on the list, but Iron Maiden are a major influence to power metal as we know it today, and for anyone who wants to start listening to power metal, or for anybody who is a fan, this band should be one of the many you check out.

25 Painkiller - Judas Priest

Yes. They are innovative, heavy, and whenever I listen to this one, it seems to shake the ground.
