Best Songs from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's Flying Microtonal Banana
Flying Microtonal Banana is the ninth studio album by Australian psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. It was released on 24 February 2017 on Flightless Records in Australia, ATO Records in the United States, and Heavenly Recordings in the United Kingdom. It is the first of five albums released in 2017 and focuses on the idea of microtonal tuning. An incredibly groovy bassline is the main draw of this song, as well as just the general groove of the song. Definitely my favourite song on the album.
I absolutely love Ambrose's vocals here, they have some real power to them. The way it speeds up slightly n the middle gives a good little bit of variety to an already amazing song.
I appreciate the slightly heavier riffing that the song opens with, and the vocal melodies used that have more intensity. The guitar work is also really great sounding here.
This song feels as if there is quite a bit of panic behind it, having some sort of urgency to it while still continuing with the somewhat relaxed feel to it. I really love the recurring guitar riff, as it sounds cool, and also really nicely displays the microtonality of the album.
While the song may be extremely repetitive and long, the simplicity of it combined with the energy make this a song that I always enjoy listening to, however, not much to say about it, since it's incredibly repetitive.
I really enjoy this song, it has a really happy, calming sound to it. It's just such a lovely song all around.
The intro is really great, and the constant chanting in the background is cool. The higher amount of distortion used lends itself well to the heavier sound of the second half of the album.
I love how much of a hazy sound this song has, with some really nice backing instrumentals and all around really nice atmosphere. I like the chorus a lot, and find the synthesizers to be used effectively.
I really appreciate the world music and middle eastern music influence that this song has, although despite this, the lack of any kind of vocals also makes it somewhat unmemorable compared to the other songs.
