Best Songs from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's Murder of the Universe
Murder of the Universe is the tenth studio album by Australian psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. It was released on 23 June 2017 by Flightless Records in Australia, ATO Records in the United States, and Heavenly Recordings in the United Kingdom. It is the second of five albums released by the band in 2017. This one focuses on the concept of a spoken word narravtive, with music to back it up.The riffs in this song are straight up amazing, perfectly combining the much darker and heavier sound the album. On top of this amazing, dark atmosphere, the song is just insanely catchy as well. Nothing short of amazing.
While the first 30 seconds or so are more restrained, the gigantic, cacophonous explosions of noise that occur are absolutely amazing. The riffs are energetic, and the beat to the song is interesting for sure, but it's those massive explosive walls of noise that really make this song so amazing.
Definitely an extremely intense song. While at this point, the spoken word has become nothing short of disgusting, it perfectly works in terms of what was trying to be achieved. The constant crescendo of the instrumentals, becoming more and more discordant makes this, while not one of the most enjoyable songs on the album, is undoubtedly still one of my favourites.
More amazing energy that uses the main melody from Altered Beast I, and then goes a step further by having its own really great little sections of somewhat eerie melody. The way it slows down and becomes a much denser, heavier song is also amazing.
I love the chorus of this, it's so simple, yet still so fun to listen to. A very frantic track all around.
The changes throughout are exceptional, and make an amazing conclusion to the extremely powerful Altered Beast saga. The spoken word is once again used in such a way to further increase the high quality of the song.
I love the repeated singing of the phrase "nonagon, nonagon, nonagon infinity" as it is just another fun callback, yet also becomes a really powerful, cool part of the song as it goes on and gets louder each time it's used. I like the slightly more varied use of noise in this song as well, and the way the song changes near the end is awesome.
And all around heavy song that I can't help but enjoy despite how simple all of it is. The story at this point is becoming quite unpleasant, as well as all devolving into the final song of the album.
From the very first notes, it feels as if it's the climax of a song, and continues this new level of energy throughout its runtime. The spoken word once again adds to the song, by being incredibly chilling in general.
The true beginning of this wildly confusing, weird story is just that, confusing and weird. Can't say that I dislike it though, being introduced to Han Tyumi is fun, and the backing synths and drum beat are pretty cool and groovy.
A great way to begin summing up the Lord of Lightning vs the Balrog saga. Fun all around with a few much darker, atmospheric moments
I love the way this one keeps fading slightly throughout, indicating the near complete transformation into the beast that this character has undergone
I'm not sure exactly why I love this part so much, but I really appreciate the way it sounds, having a powerful, slightly melancholic tone to it.
The creepy synths combined with the amazing spoken word perfectly sets up the album, building up amazingly
This is just a minute build up back into the main meat of the song, yet it's still of high quality, having really nice energy to it
A great way to end the second story, with some amazing atmosphere, and some really chilling spoken word stuff.
The slight key change and the more prominent role of the bass really makes it sound like everything is about to go horribly wrong in the story, I enjoy this quite a bit.
A slightly more restrained section of the Altered Beast saga. I like the way it dies down and then slowly builds up.
A more atmospheric song in general, a good way to start off the second story of the album.
I love this for the slow decrease in speed and volume, cooling down after the last 18 minutes of pure insanity.
