Songs That Perfectly Describe the Year 2020

I think we can all agree that 2020 is basically Hell. These songs mostly reflect the social issues of coronavirus, the George Floyd riots and those guys who are constantly on the news because they took down a statue of [insert name here], but there are obvious annual occurrences too, and if 2020 has more problems, feel free to point them out, or if the year improves, submit more optimistic songs, (for instance "Getting Better" by the Beatles.)
The Top Ten
1 20/20 - Survivor 20/20 - Survivor Cover Art

I figured I'd start out with a simple song that is kind of ironically formatted as "20/20 - Survivor" because at this point, surviving 2020 is a miracle.

I just wish people wouldn't slack so much about Covid.

2020 has been ass so far so I'm grateful I survived it.

2 Help! - The Beatles Help! - The Beatles Cover Art

Put it in whatever context you want, but Help! seems fitting for every social issue put in the description of this list

3 Livin' On a Prayer - Bon Jovi Livin' On a Prayer - Bon Jovi Cover Art

Much like Help!, Livin' On a Prayer is fitting for COVID-19, the riots, and the removal of statues.

because we are all livin' on a prayer right now

4 Doom and Gloom - The Rolling Stones Doom and Gloom - The Rolling Stones Cover Art

At this point, this song sums up 2020 in three words. The Rolling Stones are so optimistic.

5 Social Disease - Bon Jovi Social Disease - Bon Jovi Cover Art

This is what coronavirus literally is.

6 Don't Stand So Close to Me - The Police Don't Stand So Close to Me - The Police Cover Art

Another Coronavirus anthem. What a great year 2020 is.

7 American Idiot - Green Day American Idiot - Green Day Cover Art

Those rioters were exactly this. I envy you if you live elsewhere.

8 The Wild Boys - Duran Duran The Wild Boys - Duran Duran Cover Art

In other words, rioters.

9 Misery - Maroon 5 Misery - Maroon 5 Cover Art

It's funny that this album is called "Hands All Over," since that's exactly what we're trying to avoid, but I agree.

A pretty universal feeling as of 2020. I don't think I know a single soul who wasn't in misery during quarantine.

yes whoever put this song on here. you are so right

10 Keep Holding On - Avril Lavigne Keep Holding On - Avril Lavigne Cover Art

True because this year been brazy but we should keep holding on.

The Newcomers

? Bummerland - AJR Bummerland - AJR Cover Art

2020 does feel like Bummerland.

? WTF - Missy Elliott WTF - Missy Elliott Cover Art
The Contenders
11 Don't Stop Believin' - Journey Don't Stop Believin' - Journey Cover Art

I considered ending my top 10 songs with "Welcome to Hell," but I decided to end this list on a high note and some optimism so, Don't Stop Believin' it is.

True, this year was ass but we still should believe in it and stay positive.

Thanks for having at least some optimism at the end.

we can't stop believin because if we do it's all over

12 Slipped Away - Avril Lavigne Slipped Away - Avril Lavigne Cover Art
13 Complicated - Avril Lavigne Complicated - Avril Lavigne Cover Art
14 Everything Sucks - Descendents Everything Sucks - Descendents Product Image

Everything sucks because the same people who are whining about 2020 were also whining about 2019. I bet they'll also whine about 2021.

Yeah, everything kinda does suck, to put it bluntly.

Exactly. Couldn’t describe it better

true so very true, I don't know who put this song on here, but it is the perfect song.

15 Another One Bites the Dust - Queen Another One Bites the Dust - Queen Cover Art

that's kind of cold

16 Wake Me Up When September Ends - Green Day Wake Me Up When September Ends - Green Day Cover Art

Wake me up when 2020 ends. (But if- and God forbid this- if 2021 sucks as much as 2020 has, let me sleep my life away.)

I actually didn't even realize it's now October, but I agree: That is the single most ironic thing that can happen.

It's October now (:

17 We are Warriors - Avril Lavigne We are Warriors - Avril Lavigne Cover Art
18 Hold On - Wilson Phillips Hold On - Wilson Phillips Cover Art

For when the world is properly reunited with their loved ones.

how many more days?

19 Harder to Breathe - Maroon 5 Harder to Breathe - Maroon 5 Cover Art

that is horrible, my mom really could not breathe on her own for five days, so this song is right, but also in very bad taste.

I didn't add this song. Don't know who did, but I'm not much of a Pop guy.

20 Knockin' on Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan Knockin' on Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan Cover Art

at lest I hope it's heaven.

21 Screaming Goats - Cotton and Gin Screaming Goats - Cotton and Gin Cover Art

As silly as this may be, it sums up my feelings for this year without actually using lyrics.

Yes because I want to summon a screaming goat and cure people's depression.

I played the sample and here are my thoughts: This is perfect. How ain't this #1?

22 Head Above Water - Avril Lavigne Head Above Water - Avril Lavigne Cover Art
23 Jesus, Take the Wheel - Carrie Underwood Jesus, Take the Wheel - Carrie Underwood Cover Art

Even if you're an atheist, you gotta admit whoever has the wheel as of now must be "driving" 2020 intoxicated or has highway hypnosis or something. (Things are improving, yes, but that doesn't mean the rest of the year didn't suck.)

because He will make everything better, Jesus has the power to do so.

Exactly. Even if you don't believe in Him (which doesn't seem to be the case, clearly,) Jesus can make everything better

24 Calm the Fire - Alter Bridge Calm the Fire - Alter Bridge Cover Art

With the whole world falling apart around us, it seems some things never change, and that is our tendency for violence. This song is for those who wish for unity and understanding among fellow humans, who are all going through the same tough times.

Well, there was a fire in Australia.

I'll be honest, the Australian Bushfires completely slipped my mind when I added this song. That's just how crazy of a year it's been.

25 How to Save a Life - The Fray How to Save a Life - The Fray Cover Art

Although this was obviously submitted for COVID-19, it's got a more personal meaning for me. (My sister's ex's sister died this Friday and my great aunt died yesterday.)
