Songs That Perfectly Describe the Year 2020

I think we can all agree that 2020 is basically Hell. These songs mostly reflect the social issues of coronavirus, the George Floyd riots and those guys who are constantly on the news because they took down a statue of [insert name here], but there are obvious annual occurrences too, and if 2020 has more problems, feel free to point them out, or if the year improves, submit more optimistic songs, (for instance "Getting Better" by the Beatles.)
The Top Ten
1 20/20 - Survivor 20/20 - Survivor Cover Art

I figured I'd start out with a simple song that is kind of ironically formatted as "20/20 - Survivor" because at this point, surviving 2020 is a miracle.

I just wish people wouldn't slack so much about Covid.

2020 has been ass so far so I'm grateful I survived it.

20/20 is about 20/20 vision, but I get the irony

2 Help! - The Beatles Help! - The Beatles Cover Art

Put it in whatever context you want, but Help! seems fitting for every social issue put in the description of this list

3 Livin' On a Prayer - Bon Jovi Livin' On a Prayer - Bon Jovi Cover Art

Much like Help!, Livin' On a Prayer is fitting for COVID-19, the riots, and so on

because we are all livin' on a prayer right now

4 Doom and Gloom - The Rolling Stones Doom and Gloom - The Rolling Stones Cover Art

At this point, this song sums up 2020 in three words. The Rolling Stones are so optimistic.

5 Social Disease - Bon Jovi Social Disease - Bon Jovi Cover Art

This is what coronavirus literally is.

6 Don't Stand So Close to Me - The Police Don't Stand So Close to Me - The Police Cover Art

Another Coronavirus anthem. What a great year 2020 is.

7 American Idiot - Green Day American Idiot - Green Day Cover Art

Those rioters were exactly this. I envy you if you live elsewhere.

8 The Wild Boys - Duran Duran The Wild Boys - Duran Duran Cover Art

In other words, rioters.

9 Rotten to the Core - Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart & Sofia Carson Rotten to the Core - Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart & Sofia Carson Cover Art

Especially for me. I’m about to have a really bad month.

10 Wake Me Up When September Ends - Green Day Wake Me Up When September Ends - Green Day Cover Art

Wake me up when 2020 ends. (But if- and God forbid this- if 2021 sucks as much as 2020 has, let me sleep my life away.)

My September was pretty bad.

Don’t wanna sound excessively pessimistic, but September wasn’t that great in my opinion

It's October now (:

EDIT: wow it's December now

The Newcomers

? Thank You for the Music - ABBA Thank You for the Music - ABBA Cover Art

One good thing about this year. It was a fantastic year for music and I’m not the only one to say that. Also pollution was lower than usual but that was because there was less travel and industry not because of actual systemic change.
I would also add New Years Day Taylor Swift but then that describes 2021 not 2020. Here’s to cleaning up the mess that 2020 left us together!

? Thank God It’s Over - Stone Sour Thank God It’s Over - Stone Sour Cover Art

I honestly had never heard of this song before I just thought there had to be a song of this title out there.

So glad that this year is finally over, bad year for me personally, and bad year in general with the COVID.

The Contenders
11 Misery - Maroon 5 Misery - Maroon 5 Cover Art

It's funny that this album is called "Hands All Over," since that's exactly what we're trying to avoid, but I agree.

A pretty universal feeling as of 2020. I don't think I know a single soul who wasn't in misery during quarantine.

yes whoever put this song on here. you are so right

12 Don't Stop Believin' - Journey Don't Stop Believin' - Journey Cover Art

I considered ending my top 10 songs with "Welcome to Hell," but I decided to end this list on a high note and some optimism so, Don't Stop Believin' it is.

True, this year was ass but we still should believe in it and stay positive.

Thanks for having at least some optimism at the end.

we can't stop believin because if we do it's all over

13 Keep Holding On - Avril Lavigne Keep Holding On - Avril Lavigne Cover Art

True because this year been brazy but we should keep holding on.

14 How to Save a Life - The Fray How to Save a Life - The Fray Cover Art

Although this was obviously submitted for COVID-19, it's got a more personal meaning for me. (My sister's ex's sister died this Friday and my great aunt died yesterday.)

15 Slipped Away - Avril Lavigne Slipped Away - Avril Lavigne Cover Art
16 Complicated - Avril Lavigne Complicated - Avril Lavigne Cover Art
17 We are Warriors - Avril Lavigne We are Warriors - Avril Lavigne Cover Art
18 Everything Sux - Descendents Everything Sux - Descendents Cover Art

Everything sucks because the same people who are whining about 2020 were also whining about 2019. I bet they'll also whine about 2021.

Yeah, everything kinda does suck, to put it bluntly.

Exactly. Couldn’t describe it better

true so very true, I don't know who put this song on here, but it is the perfect song.

19 Another One Bites the Dust - Queen Another One Bites the Dust - Queen Cover Art

that's kind of cold

20 Hold On - Wilson Phillips Hold On - Wilson Phillips Cover Art

For when the world is properly reunited with their loved ones.

how many more days?

21 Harder to Breathe - Maroon 5 Harder to Breathe - Maroon 5 Cover Art

that is horrible, my mom really could not breathe on her own for five days, so this song is right, but also in very bad taste.

22 Knockin' on Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan Knockin' on Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan Cover Art

at lest I hope it's heaven.

23 We Didn’t Start the Fire - Billy Joel We Didn’t Start the Fire - Billy Joel Cover Art

Coronavirus, Donald Trump, Murder Hornets, Karens, Riots in Hong Kong, WHAT ELSE DO I HAVE TO SAY? We didn't start 2020, it's been always burning since the world's been turning. I know some of it doesn't rhyme, but you know, Billy Joel is a god.

Bushfires in Australia...

24 Screaming Goats - Cotton and Gin Screaming Goats - Cotton and Gin Cover Art

As silly as this may be, it sums up my feelings for this year without actually using lyrics.

Yes because I want to summon a screaming goat and cure people's depression.

I played the sample and here are my thoughts: This is perfect. How ain't this #1?

25 The Long and Winding Road - The Beatles The Long and Winding Road - The Beatles Cover Art

The Long and Winding Year
