Best Songs From Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon

The Top Ten
1 Time

Really? Do I HAVE to choose the best song from this album? This actually took a really long time to figure out what was the best, but I decided it was Time. Time starts out with an amazing intro that is nice and slow and builds up some gradual tension. You can't wait till the song starts and it does it hits hard. I also love the vocals. The lyrics, thought provoking. I love the way David Gilmour sings the song. The EPIC guitar solo is one of the highlights too. The hard rock theme of this song always sticks in my mind and is really catchy. Before the song ends, you get Breathe (Reprise). This is probably the best part of the song. The way David says "When I come home cold and tired, its good to warm myself besides the fire" is just amazing. I love Pink Floyd and anything they do. This has got to be my favorite song of the album!

1. Speak to Me (Makes you feel anxious for "Breathe" to kick in)
2. Breathe (in the air) (Soothing chords and slide guitar, cool lyrics)
3. On the Run (A great use of synthesizer)
4. Time (AWESOME lyrics, epic guitar solo)
5. The Great Gig in the Sky (Well piano playing, great vocals)
6. Money (Catchy lyrics, outstanding guitar solo's)
7. Us and Them (Best Floyd jazz track, awesome climax)
8. Any Colour You Like (Good interlude, wakes you up after "Us and Them")
9. Brain Damage (Memorable lyrics, cool chord progression)
10. Eclipse (Epic lyrics and harmonies, good ending to an outstanding album)

2 Us and Them

The transition from Money to this song is so smooth and gradual. Dick Parry's saxophone performance is right up there as one of the greatest sax performances of all time. David Gilmour's vocals provide the feeling of not being sane, and when Richard Wright comes in with his harmonies, it is like the sanity has completely gone. Throw in a speaking part near the end of the song, and you have the most powerful and impactful song off of DSOTM.

Everything comes together on this song. Great vocals and guitar from Gilmour, brilliant piano and keyboards from Wright, though provoking lyrics from Waters and dynamic drumming from Mason. Add onto that Dick Parry's beautiful and soulful saxophone playing and the female backing singers and you have an incredible song, the best for me on all of Dark Side of the Moon.

Gorgeous. Really beautiful and one of two of the songs that Richard Wright really shows his prowess. The themes of alienation, conflict and abandonment echo throughout a Pink Floyd's career, but they are rarely stronger than they are here.

3 Money

Excellent themes, a rocking bass line and an unusual time signature. No other song eccentuates the problems with corruption and greed like this. And also fantastic vocals and guitar solo.

Brilliant bass line, fantastic solos and completely true lyrics. This should be number 1, although it's only slightly better than Time

Roger Waters said that every amazing lyric has common words, and Money's lyric has common words. Simply amazing!

4 Brain Damage

This is my favorite classic rock song! I commend pink Floyd and led Zeppelin for using sheer originality with their music! Although why are brain damage and eclipse separated on this list? Aren't they the same song but just 2 parts?

This is such a political song and it is so good! This song should be the theme song of the album if albums had theme songs. I belive this is my Favorite song along with on the run thank you Pink Floyd for these 2 wonderful songs!

The most recognizable song from the whole album. This song always cracked me up "... And if the band your in starts playing' different tunes..." Plus it goes into Eclipse perfectly

5 The Great Gig in the Sky

My second favorite song from the album! Also has my second favorite vocal performance of all time in music! Clare Torry's voice is instantly calming and beautiful even though her singing on this song is wordless and full of despair; I find that the fact that there are no words to this song makes it better. LOVE Clare Torry's voice and originality with her performance on this song, and also Rick Wright's piano playing, just as much 'The Great Gig in the Sky' is an absolute classic & I knew from the very first time I heard it that it I loved it, it would become one of my top 10 songs of all time later- This song is the most underrated song of all time in my opinion.

Was actually the first pink floyd song I'd ever heard and remains my favourite, the emotion laid bare in those vocals just make me want to cry whenever I hear it. It's brilliant because the despair/ euphoria in the vocals is undefined, it can represent anything beautiful or tragic in my opinion

6 Eclipse

All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy
Beg, borrow or steal
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say
All that you eat
Everyone you meet
All that you slight
Everyone you fight
All that is now
All that is gone
All that's to come
And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
There is no dark side of the moon really.
Matter of fact it's all dark.

When my father listened to The Dark Side of the Moon with headphones, the combined Brain Damage and Eclipse almost made him cry. Eclipse is one of the most impactful rock songs of all time, and is an amazing end to the album

For me, they are all tied musically. Choosing the song with best lyrics was hard. It was this, Breathe or Time. But I had to choose this in the end for it's beautiful use of poetry and nihlism. Perfect end to a perfect concept.

7 Breathe

I dunno why. Because I love cats and tings that are fury. I tink that pigs should eat rainbows and breathe cats in blankets. See I used breathe and pink floyed breathe flo breathe geta
Cat

Am amazing start to the album. Provides a chilling lyric and the emotive theme of insanity.

Should be 4 after time/money/us and them. Very good song

8 Any Colour You Like

This song has changed my life. It brings me back through all of the good and bad moments of my life, and helps me make good decisions. Extremely underrated.

This one includes fantastic guitar and synthesizer work that showcases Pink Floyd's skills like few other songs.

Whilst this isn't the best song, it sure doesn't deserve 8th. The solo, the riff, the melody...the feeling of the song really does encapsulate its name.

9 On the Run

This song is so underrated. It may seem simple and unoriginal but it has an extremely catchy main riff that never fails to put me in a good mood.

A hectic and highly experimental instrumental. Well done to Roger Waters and David Gilmour for creating this wonderful travel section.

Great and very underrated song. Also any colour you like. But 8 and 9 are the right position because the other songs are extraordinary.

10 Speak to Me

Revolution 9 done right. Segues into Breathe, which opens with the lady screaming. Menacing intro.

I don't even look at this as being a song really, just an intro to the incredible album.

Mason's brilliant layering gives you a taste of what to come in the masterpiece.
