Top Ten Songs Sampled in German Hip Hop Songs
Much like in US hip hop, samples can be found on almost every German hip hop album of all subgenres. However, since German hip hop beats generally have a different sound, the selection of sampled genres is often a whole another than in the USA. While American hip hop most often uses soul samples, German hip hop frequently makes use of movie or TV series scores, eurodance, oriental music or even American hip hop itself. And yeah, every once in a while, a soul sample pops up over here as well. And, of course, not all beats make use of sampling. Here's a selection of songs sampled in German hip hop.
Sampled in "Alles hat sein Sinn" by Farid Bang feat. KC Rebell from the first one's 2016 album "Blut".
The chorus of "Wing$" is slightly sped up and used as the chorus of "Alles hat sein Sinn". The beat is different, though. This was done cleverly as it reinterprets the lyrics to fit in the new context: Macklemore's song is about an addiction to expensive brand shoes that takes unhealthy proportions, and Farid's take is about migrant children in the lower class whose only hope is to make it big as a rapper. The chorus, which is about children chasing stars and flying away, fits both tunes.
Sampled in "Hater" by Kollegah from the 2007 Selfmade Records label sampler "Chronik I".
The main synth line is sped up and gets looped throughout the song, at some parts the sung portion is also sampled, pitched down and layered over the beat. While throughout most of the song hip hop drum kits replace the original techno beat, towards the end, the sample is played unfiltered, with its stomping dance beat and in original speed.
Sampled in "Berlin" by Bushido from his groundbreaking 2003 album "Vom Bordstein bis zur Skyline".
The intro, which you can hear on the audio sample on here, loops throughout the entire song, however being back up by hard hitting drums. Songs like this formed German hip hop and made soundtrack samples in dark street centered hip hop popular.
Sampled in "Easy" by Cro from his 2012 album "Raop".
Parts of the song, most notably when Hebb sings "ease the", which sounds like "easy" to the ear, are chopped up, rearranged and played throughout the entire song. The "ease the" vocal sample ends several lines of Cro's rapping.
Sampled in "Junge aus der City" by Fler from his 2016 album "Vibe".
The first few seconds of "The Stranger", which feature a melancholic piano, get looped throughout the song. May I say that these few seconds, isolated, have a completely different tone than the rest of the original song. That's why Fler's trap style song actually sounds much sadder.
Sampled in "Sporttasche" by Bushido from his 2014 album "Sonny Black".
The original beat of the Lil Wayne song is layed over a more hard hitting drum kit as typical for Bushido, and is also a bit sped up.
