Top Ten Songs Where Two or More Members Swap Lead Vocals

Normally in a band, one member will sing the lead vocals for the song the whole way through. Sometimes, however, two or members will sing lead for different parts of the song, for every other verse, or even for every other line. Singing in harmony does not count. Feel free to add more examples to the list; if you do, please explain who sings what.

The Top Ten

1 A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles

John Lennon sings the verses and choruses, while Paul McCartney sings the bridges. The reason why is that John couldn't hit the high notes in the bridge. - Gg2000

2 Sunshine of Your Love - Cream

Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton swap vocals with every other line in the verses. - Gg2000

3 Hey You - Pink Floyd

David Gilmour sings the first two verses, while Roger Waters sings the bridge and the final verse. - Gg2000

4 Walk Like an Egyptian - The Bangles

Lead guitarist Vicki Peterson sings the first verse, bassist Michael Steele sings the second verse, and rhythm guitarist Susanna Hoffs sings the third verse. - Gg2000

5 Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers - ZZ Top

Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill sing every other line. They also do this on the song "Heard It On the X". - Gg2000

6 Go to the Mirror! - The Who

Roger Daltrey sings the verses, while Pete Townshend sings the chorus. The reason why is that they are playing two characters: Roger is playing a doctor, while Pete is playing Tommy himself. - Gg2000

7 You Got That Right - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant and guitarist Steve Gaines swap vocals in the verses. - Gg2000

8 Burn - Deep Purple

David Coverdale sings the verses, while Glenn Hughes sings the bridge. - Gg2000

9 Acquiesce - Oasis

Liam Gallagher sings the verses, while Noel Gallagher sings the chorus. It's ironic that they sang a song together with the line "Because we need each other", considering the history of their relationship as brothers. - Gg2000

10 The Wizard - Uriah Heep

The Contenders

11 Double Talkin' Jive - Guns N Roses

Izzy Stradlin sings the verses and shares the chorus with Axl.

12 Something Happened to Me Yesterday - The Rolling Stones

This song is unique in that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards swap vocals. Mick sings the verses, while Keith sings the chorus. - Gg2000

13 Ballroom Blitz - Sweet

Lead singer Brian Connolly and bassist Steve Priest share the lead vox. Brian Connolly sings the verses and the 2nd half of what I think is a pre-chorus. The sample plays that particular section with vox by both that perhaps serves as a pre-chorus:
Steve Priest:
"Oh, Oh, I see a man at the back as a matter of fact
His eyes are as red as the sun
And the girl in the corner let no one ignore her
Cause she thinks she's the passionate one"
Brian Connolly:
"Oh yeah! It was like lightning
Everybody was fighting
And the music was soothing
And they all started grooving"
Chorus (all members):
"Yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah,..." - Metal_Treasure

14 And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope - Ne Obliviscaris

Violinist, Tim, sings the clean vox while Marc sings the harsh vox. - Metal_Treasure

15 Who Wants to Live Forever - Queen

The first verse of this song is sung by Brian May.

16 Seconds - U2

The Edge sings the first verse, while Bono sings the rest. - Gg2000

17 The Weight - The Band

Levon Helm took the lead on most verses but Rick Danko is credited with some of the lead on the original album version, and I can clearly pick out his lead of a verse on subsequent performances. I can't be specific at the moment, but I believe that on other songs Richard Manuel and the other 2 often swapped lead and backing positions. - Billyv

18 Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd

Roger Waters sang the verses. David Gilmour sang the choruses. - Userguy44

19 Time - Pink Floyd

David Gilmour sings the verse and Richard Wright sings the chorus with David Gilmour and woman featuring backing vocals. - Userguy44
