Top Ten Songs Which Instantly Spark a Memory

Britgirl
There are some songs which, when we hear them, completely by accident, instantly transports us back to a particular time and place in our lives. Those songs that stop us dead in our tracks for whatever reason, good or bad.

The Top Ten

1 It's My Life - Bon Jovi
2 Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now - Starship
3 Love Me Like You Do - Ellie Goulding
4 In Your Eyes - George Benson
5 Here I Go Again - Whitesnake
6 Sky Full of Stars - Coldplay
7 Bed of Roses - Bon Jovi
8 Rehab - Amy Winehouse

Ya know, Beege, had formed an opinion of this gal based on tats and lifestyle (which was not altogether in error) before ever bothering to listen. After she passed, saw a gig she had done with a maybe five-piece band, all jazz and blues. Was completely blown away by her awesome talent. Later saw an interview with her "progressive" jellyfish father, and it was abundantly clear that this had been a massively over-indulged, totally ungoverned child set on a path to the inevitable. Such a waste.

That is really sad. The whole story is tragic. A truly great artist, molded by pain. Some would argue this is a pre- requisite for any great artist. She gave us all her soul, and as hard as it is to watch someone you respect self destruct, at least we have her legacy to remind us of the power of our own demons... - Ned964

I know, V. A lot of people have judged her the same way before actually listening. I've done it myself (not about her, though - I loved her unique voice and diversity before I knew about her lifestyle). I genuinely miss her; keep expecting her to surprise us all with brand new music and then I remember... - Britgirl

Sometimes when I play that old six string (except my one isn't old)
I think about ya'n wonder what went wrong "

41 Rock the Casbah - The Clash

Makes me smile. Reminds me of my days working as a room maid (okay...cleaner) in a four- star hotel, which had a very grand gold and red coloured social room with chandeliers on the ceiling. It was called The Caz Bar. Some of my best memories are still floating around the Caz Bar and indeed the entire hotel. - Britgirl

42 Wuthering Heights - Kate Bush

When I hear this song, I'm instantly transported back to 1980 as a four year-old. This was playing on the radio while my parents were teaching me how to write my surname. I remember covering my ears, pulling a face and saying to my mum "That lady's voice is weird." Thirty-eight years on and I still think that lady's voice is weird. - Britgirl
