Best Songs With a Pick Slide
For those of you who don't know about guitar, a pick slide (or pick scrape) is a technique where the guitarist runs the side of their pick down the guitar strings from the top to the bottom, creating a distinctive sound. Some songs use the pick slide very prominently in certain locations. I'm going to be judging the songs by how the pick slide adds to the song. Feel free to add any other examples.Probably one of the most obvious examples; there is a big pick slide during the intro right before Randy Rhoads starts playing the main riff.
The outro of the song has a really big pick slide right before the final chord that still gives me goosebumps. I think Pete Townshend is one of the original pioneers of the pick slide; he first used it on their second single, "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere", in 1964.
Tom Scholz commonly used pick slides throughout most of Boston's songs; sometimes he would even layer multiple pick slides on top of each other. Listen to the outro of Rock and Roll Band; you can hear three pick slides at the same time.
There's a really good pick slide in the middle of the intro.
There's a huge pick slide at the end of the guitar solo that's about 4 bars long.
At the very end of the song, two pick scrapes can be heard at the same time (one for each guitar track).
There's a slow, gradual pick scrape at the beginning song that lasts all the way until the vocals come in.
The pick scrape opens the song.
Another case where the song ends with a pick slide.
The pick slide is very brief, appearing between the intro and the main riff.
There is a pick slide in the intro.
When Gary Richrath(RIP) did his signature pick slide on the solo of this song it is simply awesome. Especially his live Midnight Special performance of this song back in 1980.
The song opens with not one, but two pick scrapes!
