National Anthem vs New Americana -Lovefrombadlands 11/10 Reviews

Hello everyone! It's lovefrombadlands and welcome to episode 1 of my 11/10 reviews. I'm not saying I'm rating everything 11/10, that's just the name of the series. Today, I'm going to be comparing 2 of my favorite songs:National Anthem by Lana Del Rey and New Americana by Halsey. Also, I'm not trying to copy anyone who does song vs song, I just thought that this comparison would be perfect for my first 11/10 review. Credit to everyone who did song vs song before me.

So that was my first intro...I have 2 intros now...okay. The reasons why I'm putting this post on here are 1:I believe that these 2 songs are some of the best ever. 2:I can't really do this on a year list, as one (National Anthem) was released in 2012 and one (New Americana) was released in 2015. A lot of people feel as though New Americana copied, so I'm comparing the 2. Without further ado, let's begin.

First, let's compare the beginning music. National Anthem starts out with a few seconds of an instrument playing, kind of fancylike with fireworks going off in the background. I can't exactly tell what instrument it is. Then after that, it changes to drums with a less patriotic style. New Americana, on the other hand, starts out right away. No copying here!

Now I'm going to compare song structure. Both songs start out with a verse. Halsey then has her pre-chorus. Lana, on the other hand, does not have that. She has a pre-verse. There's probably another word for that, but I don't know what it is. Something that she does before each verse. (Money is the...) Then, of course, they both have a chorus. After that, they both go into their second verses which use the same beat and rhythm of their first. Then the chorus. Afterwards, both songs go into the third verse, which sounds different than their first and second. Then Halsey goes right into her chorus, whereas Lana repeats her pre-verse. Then New Americana ends. National Anthem keeps going into a fourth verse, and then its chorus. The song ends with repeating the lyrics "Money is the anthem, God, you're so handsome, money is the anthem of success." I guess you could say the have a similar song structure.

Then, we get to the first verse. Lana's starts after her short instrumental and Halsey's begins right away. Halsey's verse starts off right at the beginning of the song with a verse that sounds like about seven lines. Lana Del Rey's song has longer verses and she sings a bit faster than Halsey. I don't think the verses sound the same. Halsey has a pre-chorus, which Lana doesn't, so there is no comparing there.

Now, here we are at the choruses of these two beautiful songs. This is the part that people say is copying, and I'm very sorry Halsey, but I have to agree. The 2012 song's chorus starts out with the line "Tell me I'm your national anthem" but it sounds like more than one voice singing in the background. Then we will time travel 3 years and talk about the 2015 song's chorus, which starts out with the line "We are the new americana!" Those lines aren't that similar, right? They aren't. Except for that it's the exact same beat and more-than-one-voice-singing-in-the-background thing as that song from 3 years before!

Halsey's song continues with that beat for the chorus, whereas the 2012 song has parts in between with different beats such as "baby bow down, making me so wow now" and the part which I personally think is the best part of the song "Red, white, blues in the sky. Summer's in the air, baby, heaven's in your eyes," so yes, I would have to say that some copying happened in the making of the 2015 song New Americana.

I am not going to compare second verses, as they are almost the same as the first verses.

On to the third verses of the songs. Both songs have a third verse that sounds significantly different that the previous two. The 2012 song by Lana Del Rey starts out with "It's a love story for the new age, for the six page" in a kind of monotonous voice, still with emotion, while Halsey's New Americana begins its third verse with "We know very well who we are." The verses both have very different beats, so I feel there is no copying with the verses themselves, but the song structure is pretty similar.

Then New Americana ends after a chorus, but National Anthem continues. We can no longer compare.

The last thing I'm going to be comparing about these two songs is lyrical content. The names New Americana and National Anthem are both, like, patriotic, so that is similar. But in both songs, they have nothing to do with patriotism.

I have come to the conclusion that Halsey, you have copied Lana Del Rey. I'm very sorry, but I cannot help your actions. I still think you are the best singer ever, though.

Thank you so much for reading my first 11/10 review and first post ever! Comment what you think about my review of these two songs and also, comment other stuff I should review or compare on 11/10 Reviews. Goodbye everyone!

I don't know either song but you clearly know what you're talking about. Pretty good - visitor

Hello everyone! I didn't reread this or anything so there might be, like, 10 zillion mistakes but I tried... - visitor
