Top 10 Most Spiteful Songs

The Top Ten

1 How Do You Sleep? - John Lennon

Lennon was right. Since the Beatles, McCartney has produced nothing but mind-numbing, poppy Muzak. Course, Lennon was busy indulging the screeching cacophony of his talentless wife, so he really didn't have much room to gripe.

John Lennon talks about his former bandmate Paul McCartney in this song. Lennon wrote the song in response to McCartney's song "Too Many People", where Lennon felt attacked by McCartney.
"Those freaks was right when they said you was dead" (refers to the "Paul is dead" rumour)
"The only thing you done was yesterday and since you’re gone you’re just another day"
"The sound you make is muzak to my ears" - Metal_Treasure

I'm a huge Beatles and Lennon fan, but it was foolish, rude and childish of Lennon to attack McCartney like this. McCartney's "too many people" isn't even attacking Lennon directly, even though he later admitted that a couple of lines in the song was a dig at Lennon. How do you sleep was written by a Lennon blinded by hatred against Paul. Lines like "Those freaks was right when they said you was dead" and "The only thing you done was yesterday" are just stupid.

I'm glad John apologised later though. He even said the song was really about himself:

"Lennon softened his stance in the mid 1970s and said that he had written the song about himself. He stated in 1980: "I used my resentment against Paul to create a song, not a terrible vicious horrible vendetta … I used my resentment and withdrawing from Paul and The Beatles, and the relationship with Paul, to write 'How Do You Sleep'. I don't really go 'round with those thoughts in my head all the time".

Luckily they ...more - KurtCocain

2 Yonkers - Tyler, The Creator

By far one of the angriest and most demented hip hop songs to come out in the last decade. And that's what makes the song so great. The music video is also disturbing as hell. - phillysports

Hope "smashing in Tylers skull with Mister Guitar" - Mars becomes a thing (not an act)
and the songs firing back at each other get more pathetic until they become albums of all "Yo Mamma" diss tracks! lol - EliHbk

"Stab Bruno Mars in his damn oesophagus
And won’t stop until the cops come in" - Metal_Treasure

3 Too Many People - Paul McCartney & Linda McCartney

The song that inspired John Lennon (is 'inspired' the most fitting word here? ) to write "How Do You Sleep? " - Metal_Treasure

4 You're So Vain - Carly Simon

I also heard the song was about Warren Beatty AND Mick Jagger (Rolling Stones) and David Bowie but I was sure only about Warren Beatty because she has mentioned him most often. - Metal_Treasure

Simon has always contended that the song was about three men. More recently, she has said that Beatty was the subject of only the second verse.

She wrote this song about Warren Beatty and their failed relationship. - Metal_Treasure

5 The One I Love - R.E.M.
6 Takeover - Jay-Z
7 Tramp the Dirt Down - Elvis Costello
8 Bloody Mother F****** A****** - Martha Wainwright
9 Not Big - Lily Allen

"How’d it make you feel if I said you never made me come? "
"I’m gonna tell the world you’re rubbish in bed now
And that you’re small in the game" - Metal_Treasure

10 Positively 4th Street - Bob Dylan

Wouldn't call this spiteful. More like righteous contempt.
