Top 10 Best Star Wars Characters from the Original Trilogy and the Sequel Trilogy

As you may know, it's the 40th anniversary of Star Wars. So in honor of that, let's discuss the best characters from the original trilogy (4-6) and the sequel trilogy (7-9).
The Top Ten
1 Darth Vader Darth Vader is a Star Wars character and the main antagonist of the first three original Star Wars films and the main protagonist of the Star Wars prequel trilogy under his original name Anakin Skywalker. He had been trained as a Jedi but defected to the Sith lord and Galactic Chancellor Palpatine. He adopted the name Darth Vader, and was placed in a suit after his legs were cut off and his body was burned after a fight with his former master Obi-Wan Kenobi on the planet of Mustafar. He returned to the light side upon feeling conflict when finding his son Luke and turned stopped the now emperor Palpatine from killing him. In the original trilogy, Vader was physically portrayed by David Prowse ...read more.

Darth Vader is the greatest villain of all time! He is such an awesome dude! When he first appears in A New Hope, you can tell he's the kind of guy you don't want to mess with. He is very intimidating and doesn't let anything stand in his way. He looked like a pretty scary dude in the first movie, but Empire Strikes Back makes him seem a lot more frightening. As he's battling Luke, we feel like Vader will end up destroying him. And of course Vader has one of the best lines in any movie ever! "I am your father". To this day, that is the best plot twist ever. We get to see Anakin before he turned into Darth Vader in the prequels. But they completely ruin him. We also get to see him turn into Vader in Episode 3. They even manage to ruin that by having him shout "NO! " However, in Rogue One, we get to see the absolute coolest Vader moment ever! The scene that really shows how dark of a villain he really is! If you saw the movie, you know what I'm talking about. That scene alone was ...more

Darth Vader is hands down the greatest Star Wars character ever.

"I find your lack of faith disturbing,"- gives me chills.

There should be no questions and no contest.
My question is why Kylo Ren, who literally worships Vader, is so close to him in rankings. I would expect Kylo to be near the bottom.

2 Luke Skywalker Luke Skywalker is a fictional character appearing as the central protagonist of the original film trilogy, and as a supporting character in the sequel trilogy of the Star Wars universe created by George Lucas. He is portrayed by Mark Hamill.

Only two more months until I most likely get to see this guy in person. Luke Skywalker, played by Disney legend Mark Hamill, is the main character of the original trilogy. After being trained by Master Yoda on Dagobah, he became a master Jedi and attempted to defeat Darth Vader. Luke is a very heroic character. He's a very powerful force user and he was able to destroy the Death Star. One of my favorite scenes involving him was the Sarlacc Pit scene in Return of the Jedi. That scene shows just how great Luke has gotten at using the force. And as we all know, Luke goes on to become a Jedi mentor. Which we will see in Episode 8. Which comes out this December. I'm very excited!

Luke is the best, Vader close second. THe story of star wars is the story of the skywalkers, and that's why I would vote for both of them if I could

I like him better than Solo

Because that's me

3 Han Solo Han Solo is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. In the original film trilogy, Han and his co-pilot, Chewbacca, become involved in the Rebel Alliance which opposes the Galactic Empire. He is primarily portrayed by Harrison Ford. Han Solo served as the focus of the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story, where he is portrayed by Alden Ehrenreich.

Han Solo is my idol! I look up to this guy! He is truly an inspiration! A very tough guy! Doesn't take crap from anyone! Literally everything about him is great! People say that Indiana Jones is the best Harrison Ford character. I disagree. Han Solo is. He's just so cool! He doesn't care what anyone thinks. He plays by his own rules. He even has some of the best lines. Like before he gets frozen in carbonite, Leia says "I love you" and Han responds with "I know". Because that's the kind of guy he is. And in that same scene, the fact that he was willing to be frozen in carbonite shows how brace he is. Even in TFA he is still shown to be the same Han that we know and love. Han truly is an awesome character. Also, HAN SHOT FIRST!

Super funny and played by one of the best actors ever: Harrison Ford! (Harrison Ford also plays Indiana jones! )

Han Solo is a legendary Star Wars character, and he will always be remembered.

One of the coolest movie characters ever

4 Rey Rey is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, portrayed by British actress Daisy Ridley. First appearing as the central character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey is a scavenger who was left behind on the planet Jakku when she was a child, and later becomes involved with the Resistance's conflict with the First Order when her solitary life is interrupted by BB-8, the droid of ace Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, and the runaway Stormtrooper Finn.

Rey is hot! One of the hottest characters in the Star Wars universe! Rey is truly an awesome character. There are a lot of things that she can do. She can fight, pilot ships, use the force, and she's an expert with a lightsaber! All these things cause people to say that Rey is a Mary Sue. First of all, a lot of people seem to really like Ariel from the Little Mermaid even though she's an even bigger Mary Sue. Seriously! Ariel ends up getting what she wanted even after almost getting everyone killed! Can anyone explain to me how we're supposed to like Ariel? Second of all, there are still two movies left in the sequel trilogy. They'll most likely explain how Rey is able to do all these things. I read online that Rey is able to pilot ships because she practiced with flight simulators. Which makes sense. Rey is an underrated character in my opinion. I wonder if I have a chance with Daisy Ridley.

Rey makes me hate star wars because she learned the force way too fast, it was so random and out of nowhere, she learned it faster than Luke which is weird. It just frustrates me so much!

5 R2-D2 R2-D2 or Artoo-Detoo is a fictional robot character in the Star Wars universe created by George Lucas, who appears in the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy, and the sequel trilogy.

As I was making this list, I forgot to include a droid. So I took Chewbacca off the list and included R2-D2. I was deciding between R2 and BB-8. But as I was thinking, I realized that we had 7 movies to fully appreciate R2 whereas we've only seen BB-8 in one movie so far. R2 is a very helpful droid. And he's very adorable. Even though he can't talk, he still has a personality. He and C-3PO make an excellent duo. Even though they can get on each other's nerves, they are still great friends. I felt like their cameo in Rogue One was pointless though.

The cutest thing I have laid eyes on. Smart, cunning, being able to get out of danger. He just... goes with the flow or... force I should say. The loyal sidekick. I wish he had as big as a role as... characters like BB-8.

He is the cutest thing ever!

6 Princess Leia Princess Leia Organa, later known as General Leia Organa, is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, portrayed in films by Carrie Fisher.

Leia actually looks a lot hotter as a Disney Infinity figure than in the movies. Oops. Was that too far? Let me try again. Leia is a good looking princess. Sort of. The point is, Leia is awesome no matter what! She definitely doesn't feel like a stereotypical princess. She's not entirely a damsel in distress. Well I mean she does end up having to be rescued. But she is also shown to be very tough and able to handle herself. She's totally awesome with a blaster. She is the sister of Luke Skywalker, but of course she didn't find out until later in the trilogy. As a result, Luke and Leia kissed. Awkward. Leia ends up getting together with Han Solo. Understandable since Han is awesome. And she ends up becoming the mother of Kylo Ren. I really like Leia. She is definitely a smart and tough lady. It's shame what happened to Carrie Fisher 5 months ago. It will be emotional watching Episode 8.

SHE NEEDS TO BE HIGHER ON THE LIST! SHE KILLED JABBA THE HUTT, RESCUED HAN SOLO, AND SHE HAS A SASSY YET WITTY ATTITUDE! SHE RULES!

Why is the Disney Infinity Picture up?

7 Kylo Ren Kyle Ren, also known as Ben Solo, is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. Kylo Ren commands the First Order with a temper as fiery as his unconventional lightsaber. Ren first appeared in 2015's Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Ben Solo, the son of Han Solo and Princess Leia, was trained at Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy, but turned to the dark side under the influence of Supreme Leader Snoke. In the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Kylo Ren is portrayed by Adam Driver.

Kylo Ren is the villain in TFA and the son of Leia and Solo. Just from the trailers, I knew this guy would be awesome. He lives up to Vader and strives to become as evil as him. He totally succeeds at doing so! I also really love his lightsaber. It's also great that we got to see him take off his helmet. Although, I felt like it would've been better if his confrontation with his father was the first time he took it off. Instead, he decided to take it off for the first time when he's interrogating Rey. Also, I don't know why he even wears a helmet. As he's battling Rey, he totally shows a lot of skills and has the upper hand. Until Rey defeated him because plot. Still, Kylo Ren is pretty awesome.

Kylo ren should be in 4th position after luke Skywalker. Kylo is better character than rey.

8 Yoda Yoda is a fictional character in the Star Wars space opera franchise created by George Lucas, first appearing in the 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back. He is portrayed by Frank Oz.

It should be yoda because fans always have loved him and he is so prolific in the series

He trained Luke! He is so wise and helpful! He rocks!

Greatest jedi of all time

9 BB-8 BB-8 or Beebee-Ate is a droid character in the Star Wars franchise, first appearing in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

BB8 is my favorite character

He is the cutest thing ever

10 Boba Fett Boba Fett is a fictional character in the Star Wars series. In The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, he is a bounty hunter hired by Darth Vader and also employed by Jabba the Hutt.

Boba Fett is the greatest bounty hunter in the entire galaxy! Even though he only has 4 lines in the entire trilogy, he is still a very awesome character! There are some people who say that he doesn't do much. I don't know. I think he was pretty useful. He pretty much captured Han Solo. Also, in the prequels, I felt a little bad for him. He saw his own father, Jango Fett, die. As terrible as Attack of the Clones is, that's kind of emotional. It's great that he went on to become an even more powerful bounty hunter than Jango. I really hated the way he died though. He accidentally got hit in the back. Kind of pathetic. Honestly, I don't know why people hate Boba Fett. I remember reading a YouTube comment saying that he's worse than Jar Jar Binks. Haha. Such an exaggeration.

He was able to capture Han Solo! He is the most clever and coolest character of all time! I wanted him to live!

The Contenders
11 Obi Wan Kenobi Obi-Wan Kenobi is a fictional character in the Star Wars universe, played by Sir Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor.
12 Captain Phasma Captain Phasma is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, portrayed by Gwendoline Christie. Introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Phasma is the commander of the First Order's force of stormtroopers.

Captain Phasma pretty much did absolutely nothing in TFA. But to be fair, Vader didn't really do much in ANH. Phasma still seems like an awesome stormtrooper. She just looks so cool. My biggest problem though is that she seemed to be too easily tricked into disabling the shields of Starkiller Base. Plus, she gets thrown in the trash compactor. Um, ok? So why did I add her on the list? I don't know. I just really like her. Based on what was shown in the teaser trailer for TLJ, it seems like she will have a bigger role. I really hope that's the case.

13 Finn FN-2187 (Finn) is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. He first appeared in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens in which he is a stormtrooper for the First Order who flees and turns against it after being shocked by their cruelty in his first combat mission. He is portrayed by English actor John Boyega, who reprises the role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Finn is the first ever stormtrooper to ever become a good guy! That's probably the thing I like most about him. He's the first stormtrooper to actually get any development. I wouldn't say that he got enough character development, but there are still two more movies. They can't tell us every little thing about the character in just one movie. Finn is the kind of guy that I would totally hang out with. John Boyega plays the character so perfectly. I also though Finn is what made TFA so funny. Most of the jokes involving him are what made me laugh the most. He tried to take on Kylo Ren face to face, which he failed at, but the fact that he actually attempted to defeat him shows how brave he is. Fun fact: I read somewhere online that while being a stormtrooper, Finn never missed a shot with his blaster. Wow. Finn really isn't a stormtrooper. Also, that makes me wonder how he got stuck with sanitation. But I still think Finn is very great.

Finn is my favourite character in the sequel trilogy, and I think he is better than Rey.

14 Padme Amidala Padmé Amidala is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, appearing in the prequel trilogy portrayed by actress Natalie Portman.

I really like Padme for whatever reason. She always stood out to me as a cool character,if it weren't for her,we wouldn't have the Luke and Leia we all know and love.Just process that for a little while and you'll understand how massive that is to the franchise. So give a little more love to Padme Amidala.

15 C-3PO C-3PO is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. A protocol droid, interpreter, and best friend of R2-D2, C-3PO was built by a young Anakin Skywalker, later serving alongside Anakin's children, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa. C-3PO appeared in each film of the Skywalker Saga, portrayed ...read more.
16 Emperor Palpatine Sheev Palpatine (also known by his Sith identity Darth Sidious and publicly as Senator Palpatine, then Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, and later Emperor Palpatine) is a fictional character and one of the primary antagonists of the Star Wars franchise, mainly portrayed by Ian McDiarmid.

He was such a weak ass idiot in the prequels!

Look at how badass he looks.

17 Chewbacca Chewbacca, nicknamed "Chewie", is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. A Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. Chewbacca is the co-pilot of the Millenuim Falcon alongside his best friend Han Solo. Chewbacca was portrayed by Peter Mayhew in the Original Trilogy.

Chewbacca is so stupid and he gets on my nerves a lot

He is the best character. Way better than Rey

18 Lando Calrissian Lando Calrissian is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. He is portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker. Lando Calrissian was portrayed by Donald Glover in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

He's black. And that's that.

19 Anakin Skywalker Anakin Skywalker is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. He appears in the original trilogy as a main and pivotal antagonist serving the Galactic Empire, while his past as Anakin Skywalker and the story of his corruption are the focus of the prequel trilogy. Skywalker is portrayed by Jake Lloyd in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Hayden Christensen in Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. He is voiced by Matt Lanter in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

My fave jedi right here. Liam Neeson is win

One of the best things about the prequels

25 Nute Gunray Nute Gunray is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, appearing in the prequel trilogy and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Gunray served as the Viceroy of the Trade Federation and was a member of the Separatist Council.
