A Nightmare on Elm Street really was based on a true story. and before you ask, No. there was no real Freddy Krueger who murdered kids and then got burned alive. the events surrounding this film were based off of actual reports of people dying in their sleep. this was because of a disease known as Sudden Unexplained Nocturnal Death Syndrome (SUNDS).
