In 1981 as a jobber, he was thrust on to the main stage on W W F Championship Wrestling when he was the one to face W W E Hall of Fame legend Sgt. Slaughter to see if the Cobra Clutch can be broken. In one of its greatest moments in 1981, McGraw came within a second of breaking the hold but it became too much for him to handle and McGraw fell like other jobbers did due to the Cobra Clutch.
