Top 10 Best Theatrical Dreamworks Animated Movies

Time to discuss some awesome animated films from Dreamworks! Only the ones released in theaters.
The Top Ten
1 How to Train Your Dragon

So yeah, How to Train Your Dragon. A movie that teaches you how to train fictional creatures. Well actually it's more than that. A LOT more than that! It is a very wonderful animated film! Probably the best Dreamworks movie to watch in 3D. Mainly because of the flying scenes. They look amazing! It feels like you are actually on a ride through the sky! The designs of the dragons look very impressive! The look very original and very well detailed! The movie has an excellent plot and excellent dialogue. There is some humor found in the film but also a lot of serious moments. The serious moments work out very well and makes the story a lot more interesting. How to Train Your Dragon is a great movie with great animation, great characters, and a great story. Definitely better than Pete's Dragon.

Love this movie

Best movie ever

2 How to Train Your Dragon 2

This just shows that Dreamworks is better at making sequels than Disney is. How to Train Your Dragon 2 is an absolutely perfect sequel to the first movie! Everything about it is amazing! The characters are just as likeable as ever! I honestly thought Hiccup was a lot more enjoyable in this one than in the first one! He was a lot more developed. We even get to see him mom. The relationship between him and his mom really feels like a real mother and son relationship! It's great that we get to see a lot more dragons in this. And of course this leads to some more breathtaking animation. Very understandable why this movie was nominated for an Oscar. Too bad it lost to Big Hero 6! Which also had T.J. Miller in it. And it's a shame that he's going to be in a very terrible animated film this year! UGH!

I've actually never watched this one. Maybe I'll get to see it if Cartoon Network decides to randomly show it, because nowadays they randomly show movies

3 Kung Fu Panda 2

Yeah, this movie is awesome! But that was obvious. After seeing how good the first one was, there was no doubt that this would be good as well. And it was even better than the first one! Just like Shrek 2, this movie improves upon what made the first movie of the franchise so great! This sequel takes a more serious tone. The action is a lot more intense and even the villain is a lot darker. There are even some emotional moments, surprisingly! I remember watching this movie and actually shedding a tear during certain scenes. Didn't think that would happen in a movie called "Kung Fu Panda 2". This is an outstanding film! I also really like Kung Fu Panda 3, but it's definitely not as good as this one or the first one.

I remember watching this at the movie theater when I was 6. It was great

4 The Prince of Egypt

I am absolutely in love with this movie! I watched this last year on Netflix and it was amazing! I was absolutely blown away! This is the best adaptation of the story of Moses! This made me have more of an appreciation for the story! The animation is gorgeous! It's one of Dreamworks' few hand drawn animated films and it looks awesome! This movie is a musical and I love every song in it! Probably my favorite animated musical. All the actors did an excellent job! I honestly can't think of anything bad about this movie! It is one of my favorite animated movies of all time!

This is a great film. I watched it with some kids in this classroom once, at church, and it was awesome.

Hopefully, it doesn't get a show on Netflix!

5 Kung Fu Panda

This movie looked like it was going to suck! How do you expect a movie called Kung Fu Panda to be good? I was totally prepared to hate it! I have never been more wrong in my entire life! Kung Fu Panda is a movie that has excellent humor, excellent action, and excellent characters! Jack Black is the voice of the main character, Po. This is actually the second Dreamworks movie that he has voiced a character in. He also voiced a character in a certain movie that I don't want to talk about right now, but in his performance in Kung Fu Panda really made me care about his character! I understood his struggles, I understood his desires, he is a very likeable character! The Furious Five act like jerks to Po early on in the movie, but they start to warm up to him and become likeable as well. The fighting scenes are very well choreographed! They're not just fights that they just threw in there and put little effort into. These are fights that they actually have a purpose and they made look like ...more

I love how Dreamworks makes movies with premises that sound stupid on paper, but then they turn out to be great.

6 Shrek 2

Shrek 2 is a major improvement over the first one! It is such a great comedic film! It has a lot more stuff happening in it. There are a lot more characters and references in this one than in the first one. Just about every joke got a laugh out of me. They basically took what was so great about the first Shrek movie and made it a million times better! The fictional fairy tale place known as Far Far Away looks amazing! They made it look like a place you would see in Hollywood while still making it look like something you would see in a fairy tale. I really love the ending party scene. It was a very perfect way to end the film. It's too bad the other Shrek sequels couldn't be this great. And they're making a Shrek 5. Let's hope it saves the franchise.

I also liked this movie

7 Megamind

I would say this is my favorite Will Ferrell movie. But it's not. Lego Movie is. However, Megamind is a close second. It has a lot of clever humor in it. It tends to make fun of superhero clichés and super villain clichés. Megamind is an evil villain who wants to take over the city. He seems like a character we should be hating, but he becomes more developed and a pretty nice guy. He even ends up becoming the hero at the end which is nice. I also thought the voice acting was excellent! Megamind is not up there with movies like The Incredibles, which goes without saying, but I still enjoyed it.

This movie is really underrated

8 Rise of the Guardians

I loved the movie. Not because of the Guardians, more because of Pitch. After all, a great movie done in a more old-fashioned fairy tale style needs a good old-fashioned villain... without being too old-fashioned. The nightmare king / boogeyman fits this perfectly and his design, though simple and at times a little lazy-looking, is actually rather suitable and clever. He rules fear and fear rules him, he's a nightmare and he gets nightmares, he's a part of the shadows and a shady guy and the his powers match his personality rather well. Besides, he's humorous in his own way and does have a few saving traits that makes redemption seem possible. I can see that becoming one of the overarching themes for a series or the sequel.

Rise of the Guardians of the Galaxy! Just kidding. This movie is great! We see these different holiday icons working together to stop an evil spirit. It's just so awesome! Who wouldn't love a movie like that? Chris Pine was very enjoyable as Jack Frost! Also, I've looked at a bunch of fanart involving Jack Frost. Totally knew he would attract a bunch of fangirls. Hugh Jackman as the Easter Bunny is really great! It's rare to hear him use his regular accent. Alec Baldwin as Santa aka North was brilliant! They definitely gave Baldwin an excellent role! Unlike another Dreamworks film that I won't even say the name of! It's seeing these iconic characters working together and the amazing visuals that make it a great film! Only problem I have is who cares about the sandman? Barely anyone in real life knows who he is! Also, the tooth fairy looks hideous! I really wanted her to be hot! But aside from those nitpicks, it is a great film.

Pitch all the way...?

No?

Anyway, this movie was great. Sadly dismissed despite it's animation, fun pace and fight and action scenes that match the characters, as well as the different messages it sends to kids and adults. Except for that dubious one at the end, that seems to say: "oh, you can punch bad guys, especially when they're at their weakest." That didn't sit so well with me, but apart from that... it was cool.

It's a cute movie but also smart and funny with great morals. I really really like it but it like Kubo and The Two Strings is sadly never appreciated well enough by the general public (no the stupid Rise of The Four Dragons Brave Whatever fandom does not count, and that only includes Jack rather than mentioning anything else about this movie).

9 Chicken Run
10 The Road to el Dorado

I love this movie so much. I disagree with the critics' opinions and, though it was a shame that it didn't do well at the box office, I find it a blessing in disguise that it fail at box office because I think it works well as a stand alone movie and I'm glad it didn't become a franchise so it wouldn't follow the same paths like Ice Age, Cars, Frozen, Wreck It Ralph among the other failing franchises.
This one movie has impressed me with its story, characters, animation and songs (they are my most favourite Elton John songs of all time) than the entire multi-billion dollar grossing Frozen franchise ever did.

Maybe not the best from DreamWorks but it has such a likeable charm to it and was one of my favorites to watch as a kid.

The Contenders
11 Shrek

Best movie is the best

12 How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

This movie is mostly amazing when Hiccup is the best character because he can defeated the dragon hunters and Grimmel from two dragons like Toothless (Night Fury) and Light Fury. Then after the battle is done Hiccup and Astrid is wedding and had two child after separation from dragon and Toothless and Light Fury had babies too. In the ending that Hiccup, Astrid and their young kids flying together again with Toothless and Light Fury and followed by their babies and be happy forever.

13 Flushed Away

Only ONE poop joke in the whole film? Now THAT'S impressive...

14 The Croods

This is quite possibly my favorite Nicolas Cage movie. This movie definitely has a great sense of adventure. And throughout this adventure that the characters go on, we see a bunch of amazing scenery! The animation is definitely some of Dreamworks' best! I remember watching it in 3D and it looked gorgeous! Especially the animation of the water! Looked so realistic! I also love how much the characters actually act like a real family! The voice acting is brilliant! Emma Stone does a great job. And Nicolas Cage definitely gives the best performance! There is so much emotion and the characters are shown to really care about each other! They were going to make a sequel, but it got cancelled for some reason. I wish we got to see more of these characters.

15 Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron

Great film with an amazing score. However, like all DreamWorks movies, they just HAD to make a spinoff show on Netflix. It's pretty cruddy.

16 Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
17 Over the Hedge
18 Madagascar

I have the DVD for this movie.

This movie is SO funny!

19 Mr. Peabody & Sherman
20 Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas

Yesterday was the 15th anniversary of the film

21 Shrek Forever After
22 Kung Fu Panda 3

I really enjoyed this film. Not as good as the second (that one was phenomenal) but I would say as good as the first.

I Don't Like Kung Fu Panda Felmales Heroes Characters Feels Screaming, Sad, Crying, And Hurts

This is the best Dreamworks movie on the planet!

23 Bee Movie

I don't see why people hate this film. I thought it was very great. And no, I'm not saying that because of the meme. I genuinely like this movie! It looked like it would be stupid at first. A bee being able to interact with humans seems very ridiculous. But it actually worked out very well! The relationship between Vanessa and Barry seemed very real! Which is ironic since, well, she's talking to a bee. I also thought this was one of the funniest Dreamworks movies ever made. There are so many great jokes and I laughed at a lot of them. I didn't get the Larry King joke as a kid, even though it was flat out obvious, but now I think it's the best joke in the movie! An unBEElieveably underrated movie!

I loved it when I was little, and I even had a McDonald's toy from this movie. Then I watched it again in 5th grade on the bus trip to Washington D.C., now I have mixed feelings. It's great for memes though

According To All Known Laws Of Aviation, There Is No Way That A Bee Should Be Able To Fly, It's Wings Are Too Small To Get It's Fat Little Body Off The Ground. The Bee Of Course Flies Anyway, Because Bees Don't Care What Humans Think Is Impossible.🐝

Best anime ever. Better than Cory In The House

24 Antz

I saw this on the list of worst, sorry you must be very young. This is one of the first animated films I saw in cinema.

It's Like If HBO Made Bug's Life

25 Trolls
