Top 10 Best Theatrical Movies of 2017

There have been a lot of disappointments to come out this year, but there were still some pretty great movies. Let’s talk about them.
The Top Ten
1 Logan

The first half of the film was absolutely incredible but it started to lose the grit and atmosphere that set it apart from the other Wolverine and X-men films toward the end of the second act but regained it by the end.

I love this movie it shows how wolverine acually has a daughter I wonder if they going to show some of her in the future

A perfect sendoff for Jackman in his most iconic role.

This was phenomenal.

2 Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Overall very good. Kylo and Finn had character this time. My only real complaint is that the movie was way too hard to follow at times. It felt like 4 hours worth of content put into a 3 hour movie. At least in my opinion.

Not the best by any means. Very flawed in some areas in fact. But overall a great film.

I mean. Where are the Star Wars movies in this list? Sure I'll take empire strikes back as one. But this has to be in

Not yet gonna watch it but I'm expecting a lot of good stuff here

3 Blade Runner 2049

Best movie of the year. Miles better than that overrated Logan

I thought it was well scripted, acted and drawn out.

Underrated and widely misunderstood.

Only for smart people...

4 Dunkirk

It might not have the characters or story that made Apocalypse Now, Saving Private Ryan, The Deer Hunter & Full Metal Jacket so impactful, but it does feel like you're actually in the battlefield.

Brilliant cinematography, a beautiful way to tell the story. Very powerful masterpeice.

The movie is a masterpiece

I only watch this because of my celebrity crush Harry Styles, I love him

5 Spider-Man: Homecoming

I will forever be the only user here who preferred this over Wonder Woman, Thor Ragnarok, and GotG Vol. 2. This movie was really special to me

I loved this movie I saw it twice and I still found to be amazing

6 Baby Driver

This movie was badass! Definitely a favorite of mine this year!

No one puts Baby Driver in the corner! Seriously! You should totally watch it! It’s a great movie! It’s rare these days to see movies with practical stunts. In Baby Driver, however, all of the car stunts are real! They are all done with real cars and by real drivers! The fact that it was directed Edgar Wright should’ve made it obvious that this movie was gonna be good. He has always been a great director. This is no exception. Every action scene is amazing. The camera angles and shots are amazing. The soundtrack is amazing. The songs aren’t just put in here for the sake of there being songs. They actually play an important role in the story. Every actor does a great job as well. Jamie Foxx was amazing, Ansel Elgort despite not having a lot of dialogue was great as well, and even “he who shall not be named” was pretty great. If you cut out the scenes involving Debora, this would be a perfect film. Easily.

I liked it all, except for the middle part.

7 Coco

Aside from the My Little Pony movie, this is another film I adore, despite watching it via a pirated dvd, the video and sound is still easy to understand. Anyways, the plot, theme, character, emotion, animation and music is very stunning. Definitely worth watching and up to Pixar's standards. I'd give a perfect 10

Easily the best animated film in an extremely long time with such a horrible roster for 2017 standards.
This movie made me cry in the end, and almost the entire film is just beautiful.
This is truly a sign that Pixar is recovering from their sequel period and I can't wait for their next films coming up in the future.
Hopefully we can finally see animation recover from the major slump that we've been through since 2011.

Why isn't his higher on the list? IT IS MUCH BETTER THAN "LOGAN"

Easily the best animated film of the year.

8 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

This movie is so badass why is it so low.

9 Get Out

Best movie ever I just can not stop watching this

Way better than It and Wonder Woman!

This was a surprise to me. I didn’t have any expectations going into this, but I really enjoyed it. This movie is both intense and dark. There are scary elements, but it also has some pretty funny humor. Even the cinematography is very well done. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, gives a good performance. I didn’t know what to think of the movie before I saw it, but I’m glad I saw it. Definitely one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. It is such an excellent movie. Any good thing you’ve heard about this movie is absolutely correct.

10 The Lego Batman Movie

After the success of the Lego Movie, they decided to make a spinoff about Lego Batman. And it was hilarious! Personally, I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed the Lego Movie. I think I laughed more watching this movie than I did while watching any other movie that came out this year. It makes fun of just about everything Batman related. Even the oldest versions of Batman. It’s not just a great Batman parody film, it’s a great Batman film. The action is done very well and is very fast paced. I love how the movie deals with Batman’s struggle of being alone. It actually shows how lonely he is despite him not wanting to admit it. There are actually some pretty emotional moments. I was pretty surprised by that. I really enjoyed this one. It’s a shame that it’s the only good Lego movie to come out this year. Lego Ninjago sucked!

This movie is incredibly hilarious, it was my favorite animated feature of the year before I saw Coco! Will Arnett is a great Batman to be honest.

Great, but the pacing is too fast and can affect the jokes.

The Contenders
11 My Little Pony: The Movie

As a casual MLP fan myself, this film was horrible (I wrote a comment on another list of it that hasn't shown up yet), animation that's terrible compared to the show, with stiff and laggy frame rates (plus in one scene when Pinkie surfaces in water her mane is dry), most of the Mane Six aren't used very well (Fluttershy, Rarity and Applejack may as well not be in it), character assassination of Twilight Sparkle (I know what was leading up to it but she crossed the line too many times and I hate her now), the Mane Six didn't use any of their abilities often (Twilight mostly never cast spells or teleported, Rainbow and Fluttershy forgot they could fly), mostly lame, generic songs, the story is nothing special and is recycled from several premieres/season finales, Tempest is a one note villain whom despite her backstory (which still didn't explain why she was ENJOYING doing her evil deeds), did not deserve the ending she got, the whole thing with the Mane Six sea ponies ended up being ...more

Saw it 3 times in the first 3 weeks. I highly advise watching the show first to make this worth watching (if you're interested, that is)

Not so fast! This ain't lasting in 7th place any longer, cause I'm very sure everyone else is going to fry it out!

Not the best movie of the year but I still love it

12 Wonder Woman

I'll be honest I think this is one of the most overrated movies of the year. It was still good but parts of this movie were terrible, like a couple cliche lines thrown around in the beginning or the last 30 minutes nearly ruining the movie altogether, or the CGI and green screen being garbage mostly. Still would watch this over any other recent DCEU movies though, because it does have great acting performances and the second act of the movie really shines!

This was the first good movie in the DCEU. And currently the only one. I didn’t hate Justice League, but there was a lot of wasted potential. Wonder Woman truly is great. It shows us why she is such a great superhero. Her only motivation for wanting to help people is just because she wants to. She has a heart of a true hero. She loves what she does. It doesn’t come from a tragic backstory like most superheroes. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine have great chemistry. I really love the scenes where Steve is helping Diane adapt to this place that she isn’t used to. There isn’t a single thing wrong with this movie. Except for the climax. What a mess. Not only did the twist not make any sense, the action in that scene had terrible visuals! But the rest of the movie is so great that this one scene didn’t ruin it for me. I still think it’s a very enjoyable comic book film.

13 War for the Planet of the Apes

This was the weakest of the trilogy, but I still thought it was pretty great. The visual effects look very realistic. Andy Serkis is amazing as Caesar. There’s a lot more dramatic moments in this one than in the others. They do a great job at making us care for the characters. A tragic thing happened in the film, which I won’t give away, but it was pretty emotional. But yeah. Compared to the other two films, this one is a disappointment. I can’t exactly call it a bad movie. There was still a ton of effort put into this. It ended up being very enjoyable. If you liked the first two movies, then chances are you’ll like this one as well. It definitely doesn’t deserve the hate it’s been getting.

14 Thor: Ragnarok

Why so low. Should at least be top ten.

Should be much higher on the list

Best movie of 2017.

15 It

This was a great movie that mixed comedy and scares very well.

Should be 1, the last jedi isn't good

One of the best horror remakes

I didn’t like the original mini-series, but this movie was phenomenal. And this is coming from someone who isn’t a fan of horror films. This movie isn’t exactly scary, but that’s not what makes it a great movie. It’s the characters and the story. The Losers Club kids have a great connection. Their interactions feel very real. These kids are great actors. I also really enjoyed Pennywise. I’ll admit that he was pretty frightening at times and still had some silly moments. Despite some of the scares not exactly being scary, they are executed pretty well. Whenever something scary is about to appear, there would be a red balloon that shows up as kind of a warning. The visual effects are garbage, but the rest of the movie is great. I’m excited for the sequel.

16 Justice League

Decent but can still be flawed but anyways I like it

Knew some/most people have problem with this movie. Everyone has opiton but it ammoys me.

A pretty awesome superhero film.

17 Split
18 Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
19 Smurfs: The Lost Village
20 Churchill
21 Cars 3

This feels like a real Pixar movie, and it has a great message towards not judging people on what there dream to be is, much better than the disappointment cars 2

22 The Comedian
23 Beauty and the Beast (2017)

Why is this movie in 34th place? It was amazing! One of my favorites of all time!

I love Emma Watson and she was incredible in this movie.

24 Wonder

YES. What a great adaptation.

25 Despicable Me 3

Amused the kids, amused me and amused those all around me as well. I might not be a huge fan of the minions but still I enjoyed this movie, which is something that I cannot say for Cars 3 or the emoji movie. Both of those were outright sucky disappointments for everyone I know. Give me minions anyway over those 2 movies.

I liked this movie which is not something I can say about any of the other animated movies I saw this years. The emoji movie and cars 3 were so boring when compared to this film. Though coco is good like this one.

How can anyone think cars 3 (the disappointment) was better than this film?! Despicable Me 3 was hilarious throughout the movie and my kids loved it. Well worth watching in my opinion.

A funny third outing that had my whole family in stitches. Definitely worth the money unlike so many other movies we saw this year. Coughcars3cough..
