Top 10 Best Theatrical Movies in the First Half of 2019There have not been very many good movies this year so far, sadly. But there are still some pretty good ones. Great ones even. Since we are at the halfway point of the year, let’s discuss the best theatrical movies of the first half of 2019.
The Top Ten
Way better than that unnecessary Toy Story 4. Still sucks this will lose the Oscar to that film.
A worthy ending to an magnificent trilogy. Filled with emotions, action and a good plot, this movie will make you cry while wanting to watch the story of his characters all over again.
I absolutely LOVE this movie! I saw it 3 times in theaters and cried all 3 times! It's a bittersweet ending to my favorite trilogy of all time!
Such a fantastic story. After 10 years of entertaining with all the films and the shows, ended with beautiful ending. Such a masterpiece
That movie was one of my favorite movies of all time!
My list of my favorite movies in 2019 and their own ratings:
(1)Avengers Endgame 10/10, powerful marvel movie made ever made!
(2)How to train your Dragon the hidden world 9/10,it's ok, but even though httyd 2 is still a better film.
(3)Toy story 4 8.8/10, -2 points is because of the 4th film that they don't need which makes it the weakest toy story series, but it still good.
The film's in 2019 that were good films( non-favorite films):
(1)Godzilla king of the monsters 9.4/10, way better than 2014 version!
(2)Shazam! 8/10, a great comedy dc film ever made.
(3)Us 8.2/10, not much of a horror film and not even scary
(4)The uglydolls 8/10, similar to toy story, but good.
(5)detective pikachu 7.9/10, I'm suprise that pikachu was voiced by deadpool.
(6) Aladdin 7.7/10, a good remake with a genie though😂.
(7)Captain marvel 7.6/10, a good film, characters needs some improvement.
(8)The Lego ...more
I'd say that my top ten so far goes roughly like this:
1st: AVENGERS: ENDGAME
3rd: CAPTAIN MARVEL
4th: JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 - PARABELLUM
6th: TOY STORY 4
8th: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD
9th: THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART
10th: ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL
Honorable mentions go to (in no particular order):
-GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS
-POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU
You actually have Captain Marvel in third place, that is a surprise - germshep24
I know a lot of people love this movie and might vote it to be higher on this list, but while I did think it was a great film, it does have some pretty big flaws. Some of the humor was very weak and felt out of place, the Captain Marvel really didn’t need to be there, Steve Rogers coming back as an old man doesn’t make any sense given that it breaks the rules that the movie established earlier, Thor gets no redemption, and Thanos wasn’t as awesome as he was in Infinity War. However, there is still a lot to like about it. Some really impressive action scenes as well as some genuine emotion. Like Tony Stark sacrificing himself to save everyone. That was amazing. Since he was the one who started the MCU, it makes sense that he’s the one who would make the final blow. I also like the callbacks to previous films. They didn’t even feel forced. While it’s not my favorite MCU film or even my favorite Avengers film, I still really enjoyed it. - MegaSoulhero
The major flaw of the story is that it is pretty much just Infinity War again, so everything felt like you were seeing the same thing over again, but it made sense for them to take that direction, it was very predictable, that was where I figured they would go pretty much as soon as Infinity War ended - germshep24
Good superhero movie. - RadioHead03
Only good film by DC
This is the best superhero movie of the year so far. I haven’t seen Spider-Man: Far From Home yet. Shazam is a movie that the DCEU really needed. A fun superhero flick with great characters, great action, and hilarious humor. I laughed quite a lot during this film. Probably the most I laughed all year. I love how it makes fun of superhero tropes. Zachary Levi’s performance alone makes this film worth watching. I was also surprised by how dark the film was. There are some genuinely scary scenes in this. Even the villain was pretty menacing. The only problem I have with the film is that Asher Angel and Zachary Levi act like they’re playing two different characters even though they’re supposed to be playing the same character. Angel acts more mature than Levi. Still, this is a great movie and the best of the DCEU. - MegaSoulhero
It is probably my third favorite after Spider man and Endgame, don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the movie - germshep24
This was a great movie movie, but some of the human characters were pretty underdeveloped. - RadioHead03
This is my favorite movie of the year! Godzilla KOTM is amazing. The humans stuff...take them or leave them. I enjoyed them personality. Mothra is the best Kaiju of the MonsterVerse. - asantalo
I don’t know why critics hate this movie so much. I personally thought it was awesome. It’s not perfect. The human characters suck. They are very underdeveloped, but they need to remember that this is a Godzilla movie. Characters and story aren’t usually the strengths of these films. People just want to see some awesome monster fights. And there are tons of pretty epic fights in this film. I watched this movie in 4DX, so that experience might have caused me to enjoy it a little more. Honestly, I don’t regret watching this movie at all. It is visually impressive, action packed, and I got chills so many times. Definitely a must watch for Godzilla fans. - MegaSoulhero
Do I really need to go into any detail on why John Wick 3 is a great film? It’s John Wick. Of course it’s awesome. It’s very action packed and Keanu Reeves still gives an amazing performance. I got so much entertainment while watching this film. - MegaSoulhero
JOHN WICK COMING IN WITH THE V BUCKS BOI - BananaBrain
I was very surprised by how much I loved Rocketman. As an Elton John fan, this film really did him justice. It does a great job of telling the story of his life. Especially with the amazing performance from Taron Egerton. He really felt like Elton. He even sounded like him whenever he sang. This was an amazing performance. I also love how stylized the film is. The musical numbers didn’t feel forced. They felt genuine and really fit in with the tone of the film. I honestly got chills during these scenes. This is a masterpiece of a film. Way better than Bohemian Rhapsody.
EDIT: Okay, this WAS my favorite of the year, but then I saw Far From Home and yeah. - MegaSoulhero
I'm pretty sure that 99.9% of the people who saw this agree that it's not perfect but still the best video game film adaption yet. - Mcgillacuddy
The biggest surprise of 2019!
Good movie. But it’s probably the weakest in the series. - RadioHead03
Remember when I kept on saying that Toy Story 4 was gonna suck? Well, I was wrong. It was pretty decent. There’s a good amount of heart in it as well as some pretty emotional moments. The characters are fun to watch and there are multiple times when I laughed. The animation is also amazing. There is so much detail in each scene. Unfortunately, I do consider this to be the weakest of the Toy Story franchise. It doesn’t really do anything that the previous films haven’t already done. This makes its existence feel unjustified. Why did this need to be made? Some of the writing also felt very weak. It basically goes from being about one thing to being about another. It just didn’t work. There’s too many things that just happen for the sake of the plot, but they feel very forced. I liked this movie, but I wanted to love it. So it was pretty disappointing. - MegaSoulhero
This just came and I enjoyed it. Let's put it higher.
I’m not a fan of horror films, but I thought this one was pretty okay. I like how it’s basically a horror take on Superman. There are some pretty creative things they do with it. Some of the deaths can be pretty entertaining and violent. There’s this one scene where a woman gets a shard of glass stuck in her eye and she slowly pulls it out. That was kinda hard to watch but in a good way. However, my main problem with the movie is the writing. This kid says that he wants to try to be a good kid, but we never actually see him trying to be good. He goes through no struggles. He just stays evil the entire time. There’s really no character development. Making the characters very uninteresting. This movie could’ve been a lot better than it actually was. - MegaSoulhero
This was a very disappointing sequel and it shows that even Phil Lord and Chris Miller aren’t perfect. The fact that this came out two months after Spider-Verse is just sad. The jokes in this one felt like they were trying way too hard. I didn’t really laugh much during the film. The songs are also so forgettable. They were clearly trying to find a way to top Everything is Awesome, but they kept on failing. The thing that saves this film is the third act because that’s when things started getting good. The twist was beyond predictable, but I thought the way it was done was pretty funny. Honestly, I expected more from this film. I don’t know what happened. - MegaSoulhero
Happy Death Day 2U was a sequel that I was not looking forward to since I absolutely hated the first movie. But to my surprise, it was... okay. Not great, not really good, but okay. It actually has some pretty intense moments as well as some hilarious moments, but it still has some pacing problems and things that don’t make sense. I also find it strange how the first film was a horror film while this one kinda focuses less on the horror aspect. Still, I was pleasantly surprised by this sequel to an extent. - MegaSoulhero
Who in God's name added this? This movie is a boring cringefest only people under the age of 5 will enjoy. Too bad we are getting future movies based on Playmobil, Sonic the Hedgehog, Dora the Explorer and Minecraft. I'm starting to regret my existence right now.
There are some trolls adding movies to this list - germshep24
