Top 10 Best Theatrical Movies of All Time

I did a list of the worst theatrical movies, so here are the best theatrical movies.
The Top Ten
1 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

I think this is pretty obvious. Just about everyone agrees that Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars film! And it will always be the best Star Wars film! Unless Episode 8 or 9 can somehow be better. Which I highly doubt. I'm sure they will be good, but nowhere near the same level as Episode 5! I love TFA, but I can see why people hate it. Some of the reasons people come up with for hating that movie can easily be explained, but the movie isn't perfect. Now let's get back to talking about Empire. IT IS AWESOME! The first Star Wars movie was already great, but this movie took the franchise to a whole different direction! It has a much darker tone! There's a lot more character development! This is the perfect way to do a sequel! By expanding! And that's what this movie did! It gave us a lot more than what was in the previous film! And of course there's the big twist with Darth Vader being Luke's father! I've had that twist spoiled for me many times before I watched the movie, but ...more

The stakes, the characters, the story, the musical score, the action sequences, the twists, and everything else is amazing! My favorite film of all time!

I always loved Star Wars and the quots from Star Wars. But the empire strikes back is one of my favorite

Bro, it's Star Wars. Not only that, it's also Episode V. The Empire Strikes Back.

2 Back to the Future
3 The Dark Knight

So a Batman movie is my least favorite superhero movie and a Batman movie is my favorite superhero movie. Interesting. I think everyone can agree that this movie is amazing! Just like the title implies, it's pretty dark. And that's what makes it awesome! Heath Ledger is the best Joker ever! I wish we could get another Joker similar to his. Jared Leto is terrible as the Joker! The Dark Knight has some pretty great action scenes! I still really enjoy Christian Bale's performance as Batman! I always watch this movie to remind myself about how great DC used to be! Now it's turned into a disgrace. With the exception of Wonder Woman which is an amazing movie. But I feel like the new DC will immediately fall apart again when Justice League comes out. That movie is gonna be terrible! But yeah, Dark Knight is absolutely incredible!

Nolan is a wizard and I will not tolerate any slander on his name, eff your opinions, mine is better. Nolan is a WIZARD, period.

4 The Shawshank Redemption

It goes without saying that Shawshank Redemption is one of the best movies of all time. It is absolutely amazing! It took me a while to see it because it didn't look interesting. But I'm glad I did watch it. I can see why a lot of people love it. Every actor does a very great job. Morgan Freeman especially! The message is very powerful! The story is incredible! I don't know why I didn't watch this earlier! It was better than I thought it would be! It was nominated for Best Picture, but it lost to that awful Forrest Gump movie! What is wrong with the academy? Shawshank Redemption should've won!

Star Wars being above this shows how overrated Star Wars is. Empire Strikes Back is an excellent film, but this...this is phenomenal. 11/10

Better than empire strikes back!

Excellent movie

5 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Best movie ever, an epic conclusion to the masterpiece trilogy.

No other movies can even compete

Best movie for me

6 The Incredibles

What more do I have to say? The Incredibles is the best Pixar movie ever made! The story with the superhero family and them working together to stop Syndrome and his omnidroid is very awesome! I am very excited for Incredibles 2! I went to the animated films panel at the D23 Expo. They gave us information regarding the sequel. Brad Bird was there and he said it would take place where the first movie left off. So the characters will be their same age. Obviously Dash has a new voice actor. Speaking of the voice actors, they were at the panel too! Including Samuel L Jackson! I was very happy that I got to see Samuel L Jackson in person! The Incredibles is great and I'm sure the sequel will be great!

Ok, this is NOT the best pixar movie, Wall-E is the best, nothing beats Wall-E.

Incredible movie!

Fantastic movie

7 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
8 Fantasia

This should be objective! Okay? EVERYONE should love this film! I don't see how ANYONE could not like it! It is a literal masterpiece! This was Walt Disney's most experimental film. They wanted to show us that a story could be told through music. And it's done very well! There's no dialogue in the animated segments, but there doesn't need to be dialogue to understand what's going on. The stories are told through imagery and music! The music perfectly matches with the tone of the scenes! Like the Night on Bald Mountain scene! It's a very dark scene and the music does a great job at emphasizing its dark tone! The animation is a work of art! Each image looks beautiful! A lot of creativity! This is the best Disney movie ever made, and my personal favorite movie. If you haven't seen it, watch it! I'm sure you will love it!

Waked my soul to the beauty of music when I was tiny child. I strove for perfection as a soprano choir singer all through my school years on the strength of my yearning to match its wonder.

9 Apocalypse Now
10 Raiders of the Lost Ark

Raiders of the Lost Ark is definitely the best Indiana Jones film! I like the sequels too, but it seems like the franchise keeps repeating itself. That's not a bad thing though. I still think Han Solo is Harrison Fords best role, but this is his most memorable one since it's all about his character. Indy has a great sense of adventure. He's very brave and manages to escape each temple he comes across alive. Each set design looks very real! Whenever a character is in danger, it actually looks like real danger! This is a role that Harrison Ford will always be remembered for! A fifth movie is coming out in a few years and it kind of worries me. I don't know how Ford is going to still be able to portray Indy due to his age. I'm sure Disney will find a way to make it a good movie.

Get this to the top ten please!

The Contenders
11 Spirited Away

I hate anime and yet an anime movie is one of my favorite movies of all time. That's because Studio Ghibli actually knows how to make anime! With the exception of Howl's Moving Castle and Tales From Earthsea. Those movies suck! But unlike those movies, this one actually has a good story and good characters! Lilo gets lost in this whole magical world filled with monsters and other types of creatures and comes across Max who also happens to be a dragon. Zira gives her a job at the bathhouse in which she works alongside Megara. I wonder how many people are gonna get these references I'm making. Every single character in this movie is great! And I really love the relationship between Chihiro and Haku! It feels very real! The scenery in the movie is incredible! I like how the movie takes its time to show us this whole amazing place while still also focusing on the story. I actually kind of wish I lived in a place like this! I would've never watched this movie if my sister hadn't forced me ...more

I wonder how this movie impressed so many people! I mean... What is so great in this movie? OK. I admit it has a unique story and also adventure, but I think The Secret World of Arrietty is far better than this! I love the Arrietty's theme song!

If a Studio Ghibli movie deserves to be in top 10,it's Princess Mononoke not this.

12 Jaws

I could watch this over and over again! The suspense, the characters, John's William's excellent score, the simplistic story, the action, the conflicts, the cinematography, and does not disappoint. Jaws will forever be remembered as the first blockbuster and was amazing for what it did.

Made over a billion dollars

13 Citizen Kane

Duh! Obviously! Of course this is one of the best! And if you don't think so, too bad! It's a great movie! No doubt about it! Flawless film! It had such a huge impact on cinema! Excellent directing, excellent cinematography, excellent acting, excellent everything! It won best original screenplay at the Oscars because of it's great narrative! And it definitely deserved it! There isn't a single dull moment! Each scene has a purpose! You should really watch this movie! It is great!

This is a more obscure list than the more voted on Top Ten Movies of All Time list on this site, but I like to see Citizen Kane at #5, To Kill a Mockingbird at #13, Casablanca at #15, and Singin' in the Rain at #20.

This is objectively number one

Below Forrest Gump?

14 Lawrence of Arabia
15 2001: A Space Odyssey
16 Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
17 Forrest Gump

This is slightly better than The Shawshank Redemption

Does not deserve to be higher than better movies!

18 Godzilla (2014)
19 Casablanca

This artistic gem is so low for some reason...

20 12 Angry Men
21 The Godfather Part II
22 Spider-Man 2
23 Avengers: Infinity War
24 Cars 3
25 Jurassic Park

Spielberg once more gives us a brilliant masterpiece with great suspense, likable characters, fantastic cinematography, beautiful landscapes, amazing CGI, very smart script, wonderful story, another groundbreaking John Williams score and why we shouldn't interfere with nature!

1993 was a great year for film
