What Would Make You Want to Add to TheTopTens?
admin It's an interesting idea that I have toyed with, but now that preachinpreach has brought it up, let's discuss.There are a number of loyal contributors to TheTopTens who have made the site what it is today. Launched just two years ago, TheTopTens was a pet project of mine to help me learn more about website development, SQL, SEO, etc. Today, I'm astounded at what the site has become and am excited to see what the future will bring.
But as I stated, the site is where it is because of the people it has attracted and I would love to be able to express my gratitude for this. The problem is that I'm not sure of the best way to do this.
At this point, the biggest benefits to being a loyal contributor are notoriety, the opportunity for a few backlinks via the member page, and hopefully a little entertainment as you try to add lists that attract others and grow in size and popularity.
The biggest challenges on my end when it comes to providing more incentives are time and funding. Just dealing with the impressive number of new additions every day takes up 8-10 hours every week and that doesn't count updates to code and other additions to the site. The ad revenue generated by the site helps, but I assure you that TheTopTens is definitely the lower paying of my two "jobs"�.
That said I'm interested in knowing is what ideas do you have for other ways of honoring contributors. I have a few ideas, but I'd like to hear what would make you more likely to keep coming back to TheTopTens. First of Thank you for acknowledging my idea. I think a very good way of raising interest in users would be at the end of every month a special area could be added to the homepage for the number one overrall contributer. Maybe a small picture can be added. Either that or the number one contributer can win 50,000. - visitor

Right now, I'm going to suggest a subtraction instead of an addition for T3. I say get rid of some of the stupid lists (Rockland Middle School, etc.) that are just clogging up the database. Not to mention, right to privacy could be violated there. - Darrell
I think another great thing for this website would be, to allow the users to see all of the list that they have created. Sometimes it's annoying seeing only the top ten of your list. Maybe an option on the users page saying "click here to see all of ___ lists". Just a suggestion - preachinpreach
I would like to see positive things like Top Ten Things to do without involving the TV. Or Top Ten People you spend Christmas With. Or Top Ten Homemade Recipies and Gifts. Top Ten Volunteer Organizations. Top Ten Ways to Say I Love You. - visitor

I think waiting for your post to be checked before being published is a bit annoying.
Maybe it would be better for the person who started the thread to moderate and check the posts themselves. (Kinda like wikipedia)

Everyone should be able to have a similar list like others. For example, Top 10 video games of all time. Everyone has different opinions , so they should be able to make there own list.

Yes, the stats section is stale. Unfortunately, the script used to generate the page takes so long to run now that it cannot complete so it needs to be completely rewritten. It is on the list of things to do. - admin

There could be a better sorting mechanism. It is sometimes very difficult to access a cartain list. I tried very long with "Most overrated movies". I always got single entries of that list without a way to get the entire list.

I think you should limit some users in voting. It's not that I have something against opposite opinion but it's so hard to vote when you know that your favorite artist/actor/athlete etc will never beat Number 1 Person. We all realize that 3-4 users use multiple voting for their idols - Irina2932

The ability for the creator of a list to modify an item. Say (and this actually has happened), you misspell Bieber. The person can change it. Say that someone adds Nicki Minaj's Starships to a worst of 2015 list. The person can review the item and see if it fits the criteria of the list (in which case Starships doesn't). - WonkeyDude98
There is an error reporting tool linked to from each list page that you can use to report items that are misspelled or inappropriate for the list. - admin
