Top 10 Best Things About System of a Down

A pointless list that praises SOAD. I've really ran out of ideas you can tell. Oh well, maybe my next list will be something better. But for now.... let's just get this over with. Add whatever you want to this list.
The Top Ten
1 Their vocal melodies

Probably the best thing about them in my opinion. I really dig the melodies on songs like Lost in Hollywood, Lonely Day, or even something like Aerials. The melodies are what really make their songs memorable. Besides the riffs and everything else that is common with their music.

2 The guitar riffs

The riffs are simple yet effective. Not to mention they sound pretty heavy at times. Especially on their debut album/ self titled album. Which is without a doubt the heaviest album they've ever released. Toxicity also has lots of creative riffs as well.

3 The balance of soft and aggressive songs

System of a Down has a nice balance of aggressive songs, and somewhat soft sounding songs. Something that I think makes them stand out from other 2000s bands. It's one of several things that makes them enjoyable.

One of the best bands at doing that.

4 Their live performances

Most of their live performances are solid and memorable. There's usually lots of energy in their performances. Especially during their Rock am Ring performance. I'd recommend listening to one of their performances if you doubt me.

5 Their albums

A pretty obvious item to include. But most of their albums are solid. Even though I've heard that Steal This Album is often forgettable. Haven't listened to that one yet to determine that so I'm not sure.

Toxicity and Mezmerize are easily some of the best albums of the 2000's.

6 The random aspect of their music

They literally have a song where they sing about pie. It's random yet also kinda hilarious. Some of their songs are really random and that's not a bad thing.

The randomness and weirdness only makes their music better.

7 Their humor

They have a good sense of humor. Some of their songs like Cigaro have intentional hilarity while others might unintentional hilarity. Sugar is a song that comes off as funny yet solid despite how short it is.

8 The screams/growls

There's lots of screams in their debut album. And, even some screams in their other albums as well. It's a aspect that I personally enjoy. Serj even growled a few times on the debut album as well. I think the screams/growls are usually well performed. Even though Serj no longer does them during live performances.

9 Serj Tankian Serj Tankian is a Lebanese-born Armenian-American singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, poet, and political activist. He's best known for being the lead singer of the Armenian/American rock band System of a Down. After System of a Down's hiatus in 2006 he began to release solo material. Some of his solo songs include: The Sky is Over, Lie Lie Lie, Harakiri, Baby, Empty Walls, and more. His solo albums and EPS include: Elect The Dead (2007), Imperfect Harmonise (2010), Harakiri (2012), Jazz-iz Christ (2013), Fuktronic (2020), and Elasticity (2021) on top of that he has gone on to perform soundtracks for films in recent years.

A singer with lots of dynamic vocal power. I personally prefer Daron slightly more. But I'll still give him credit for bringing lots of energy to System of a Down. He can do melodic notes and perform really chaotic screams.

He has a very unique voice. The only singer I think has a similar voice is Jello Biafra from The Dead Kennedys.

The greatest singer of all time in my opinion.

He's very unique.

10 Daron Malakian Daron Vartan Malakian is an Armenianā€“American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He's best known as the main songwriter, guitarist, and co-vocalist for Armenian/American rock band System of a Down. After System of a Down's hiatus in 2006 he began to release music through a solo project called Scars on Broadway. Some of Scars' On Broadway's songs include: They Say, Lives, Guns Are Loaded, World Long Gone, and Angry Guru. Said albums from Scars on Broadway are the following: Scars on Broadway (2008), and Dictator (2018) with rumors of a 3rd album on the way at some point. Despite a long hiatus and a feud with Tankian System would release two new songs in 2020 Protect ...read more.

He's one hell of a guitarist. Not only that but he's a decent co-vocalist as well. Some might argue that he ruined System of a Down by singing more in the Hypnotize and Mezmerize albums but I disagree with that. His voice also gets lots of undeserved hate if you ask me.
