Top Ten Things that are Used as Insults but Shouldn't Be

The Top Ten

1 Calling someone 'gay'

People are saying these words shouldn't be insults because them being used as insults is disrespectful to people who these words apply to (by that I mean calling someone a Jew as an insult is disrespectful to actual Jews). - Skullkid755

How do you think actual gay people feel about their sexual orientation being used as a synonym for everything wrong with the world? - Zach808

It does have multiple meanings. The most obvious one describing someone as a homosexual. The other (that I know of) describes someone being happy or a joyful feeling

I have gay friends, and I'm bisexual, so it isn't insulting at all. - naFrovivuS

2 Calling someone 'a jew'

There are kids at my school who use "Jew" as an insult and salute to Hitler. If I needed a decent insult then I'd call them "mentally challenged." Or "retarded." Either way, calling someone a Jew as an insult is ridiculous. - naFrovivuS

Believe it or not I have seen someone call someone that on the Internet. It is the equivalent of saying, "You like apples! " in an accusing tone. Yeah, what about the apples? - BlueTopazIceVanilla

Not offensive. - Puga

3 Calling someone 'black'

Not offensive... - Swellow

Not offensive. - Puga

4 Calling someone an 'Asian'

Not offensive. - Puga

Wow, this list is way too PC. Calling someone Asian isn't an insult if they are off Asian heritage, same with Orient. - Swellow

He meant you shouldn't use the word Asian to insult people. He's right about people being ignorant about this list and it's meaning. - Skullkid755

It's like calling someone from Pakistan a "Paki" it's offensive to them. Should I be offended when I'm called a "Brit"? - Britgirl

I'm confused by this list. On one hand, you have stuff like this, gay, Jew, and black here, which are right. These are used as insults when they're really just mundane ways someone is affiliated with something.

But like, "terrible actor"? That's what confuses me, because this list is both "these aren't insults" and "DON'T USE MEEN WERDS". Which is it? - PandaDude98

5 Calling someone a'terrible actor'

This shouldn't be on this list because it's an actual insult (that's only offensive to actual actors who get called this on the internet 1000 times an hour) and this list is about non-insults that are used as insults. - Skullkid755

Ah, yes. One of the most common insults out there. One of my friends got called a terrible actor by a reviewer in a tabloid, and he spent the last 48 days suffering from severe depression. - BlarchBlaces

This is a common insult on this website. What if I said the same thing about your favorite actor or actress? How would you feel?

I'd disagree, but I wouldn't go into hysterics. It's not like it's the most devastating thing to ever be said by someone. It's criticism. - BlarchBlaces

This should be used as an insult if they're actually bad at acting. - Zach808

7 Calling someone 'a muslim'

Some people actually are muslims and not ashamed of it. Plus you never see someone using Christian or Hindu as a insult.

Not offensive. - Puga

8 Saying someone has 'Down Syndrome'

Not offensive. - Puga

9 Calling someone 'cancer'

Not offensive. - Puga

10 Calling someone 'autistic'

Pretty much everyone who uses this as an insult doesn't actually know what autism is. It's a condition that impairs your social skills, not a substitute term for "retarded". - Zach808

If you consider this the worst insult on the Internet you are mistaken. - BlueTopazIceVanilla

Not offensive. - Puga

The Contenders

11 Calling someone a 'nerd'

It's not bad. Everyone at my school love to use this on themselves. - TwilightKitsune

What's wrong with being a nerd? If it's who you are than who cares? - OnionLists

...Nerd isn't even that offensive. Most people who have geeky interests call themselves nerds. - Swellow

Translation: 'I'll be your slave in ten years' time'. - Entranced98

12 Calling someone "Hillary Clinton"

This is actually an amazing insult. If you're being compared to a dishonest lizard like Hillary Clinton, you screwed up. Royally. - Zach808

No one should be compared to crooked Hillary no matter how incompetent they are. - Swellow

13 Calling someone 'overrated'

People take overrated as a bad thing, but it really isn't. - naFrovivuS

14 Calling someone a 'midget'

Not offensive. - Puga

15 Calling someone "retarded"

That is really offensive. End the R word. - 445956

16 Calling someone'slutty'

Some girls now really are though... but some are not.
