Top Ten Things that Cause Misunderstandings About ChristianityJesus and the Bible get so much hate, mainly because people aren't understanding it correctly. A lot of people just don't put in the time to actually understand the wisdom of our Savior. Of all the misunderstandings that have been created about Christianity, which one do you think is the biggest? Feel free to comment. I do not want this list to bring hateful argument about. I'm just trying to show how misunderstood the Bible is, and Jesus Himself too.
The Top Ten
I'll hear people say, "If Jesus really loved us, then we'd all be in Heaven right now." Or "If Jesus really loved us, we'd all be happy." Things like that.
Before I go any further I'd like to make two things very clear: 1 - When you make an argument like "If Jesus really loves us, then why am I unhappy? " You have to assume Jesus is God and that He is perfect; so in all I say, I'm assuming Jesus is God, and that He's perfect; and we'll see if His teachings work. 2 - In order to be in Heaven, one must be perfect, and in order to be perfect, one must love the Lord with all his being.
So if Jesus just immediately put us all in Heaven without any tests or trials, Jesus would be making us love Him. There's no choice in Jesus just putting us in Heaven! Therefore if He did just put us all in Heaven, we'd all be robots programmed to love Him, which is not true love.
If you're unhappy, it's not God's fault, we're human and we make mistakes, and our mistakes lead to unpleasant ...more - TheHabsFan
God gave us free will. He doesn't force his teachings upon us, he might try to get us back on the good path from time to time, but that's it, the rest and what's happening on Earth is none of his concern. A lot of people blame all the suffering and other things on God, but since he gave us free will, it wouldn't make sense for him to interfere in nature's work (unless people start praying for a miracle, then one could happen, who knows). - RogerMcBaloney
What? Jesus loves you, no matter what you do. You call his teachings "ridiculous", He still loves you. You reject Him from your life, He still loves you. No matter what you do, you can't escape His love. The only beings He hate are Satan and His demons. Don't blame problems on God or Jesus, blame them on the Devil.
I think that visitor is trolling.

This misunderstanding is so stupid. Very very simple to explain. In the Bible it says that those who practise homosexuality will not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. Where does it say that Jesus doesn't love them still? He's letting you choose to be homo or not, it's up to you. If you give in to your fleshful passions, then you're sinning. Basically, Jesus doesn't hate the sinners, he hates the sin! Because whenever you sin, you're turning your back on Jesus. How would you feel if you loved someone with all you heart, and you died to save them, but they still disobeyed and hated you? You'd feel horrid, and so does Jesus, that's why he hates sin. Jesus loves homosexuals, but hates homosexuality. - TheHabsFan
This is the thing the Bible so nothing about homosexuality being immoral or a sin and Jesus said nothing about homosexuality in the scripture. This whole idea of homosexuality being a sin came from a misinterpretation of the Bible from Hebrew to the other language.
Most people that say their Christian and say homosexuality is a sin either don't understand the scripture or just hate homosexuals - germshep24
He does not! Most Christians do not want to hear the words "Jesus loves you unless you're gay!" It is clear that he loves all humans, even those who don't believe and are against Him and Christians! This is clearly a troll!
Jesus clearly loves everyone, even those who have committed big sins! People like those from Westboro Baptist Church believe Jesus hates them!
All my homosexual friends constantly question why I’m Christian if I support them, or claim that they hate Christians because they’re against gay people. I also have heard of people who say they’re Christian and come to despise people who share a romantic interest in the same gender. In reality, this is completely untrue. The Bible never said anything about gay people and Jesus loves everybody no matter what. - Crxme
Being submissive to your husband shouldn't be any different than women being submissive to God. Yes it would be wrong if the husband could say whatever he wanted of his wife, and his wife would have to do it. But that's not the case. Paul speaks on behalf of God saying, "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself."
- Ephesians 5:22-28

So then this isn't a misconception, it goes with the expectation that no Christians assume about Christianity - germshep24
This goes both ways (kinda). I don't remember the exact words, but there's a passage in the Bible that says that wives must be submissive to their husbands and husbands must love and cherish their wives. - RogerMcBaloney
God's wrath isn't Him hating humans, again it's Him hating the sin! Like I said earlier, if you were to die to save someone, and they continued to disobey your commandments, you'd be pretty wrathful. Anyways, His love outdoes His wrath. And God's old testament wrath, is old, it's under the old covenant, a new covenant has been made! - TheHabsFan
So what your saying is that God didn't create us but that we are in fact a part of God like Jesus, if we are a separate entity then God forcing us to love him wouldn't be loving himself put having loyal pets, it would be no different than a human dog relationship, God would have no expectations for us and we wouldn't have any understand beyond God our love would be pure and innocent because we wouldn't be able to understand the concept of good or bad or knowledge of the universe - germshep24
First thing you've got to understand, is that the slavery takes place under the old covenant and in a completely different timeframe than what you're used to. Abraham's slaves weren't like the Egyptian Israelite slaves. Abraham's slaves were loved and properly taken care of, and had a lot more freedom than you think; while the Egyptian Israelite slaves were poorly treated and did all the work. When you hear the word slavery, you probably think of people doing hard labor 24/7 for their masters, which is what the Egyptian slaves would've looked like, and God makes it clear that that kind of slavery was wrong. Abraham's slaves weren't treated at all the same. Basically what's going on here is a equivocation on the word slavery, we've got two different definitions. - TheHabsFan
Which means God saw slavery has just, do you really think slave owners in America thought they were being unjust to their slaves in their eyes they are giving them shelter and food and in return they are helping them grow their business. Remember what we know of slavery in America came from the Bible and they were following the laws brought forth in the scripture - germshep24
Every nation in the world practiced slavery in bilbical times. That means some of your ancestors were slave owners 2500 years ago.
People seem to think that divorce is never allowed, but that not true. Jesus says, "It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery." - Matthew 5:31-32. He makes it quite clear that divorce is allowed when sexual immorality is taking place, and so I would also assume that physical or mental abuse would be enough to get a divorce. Divorce can be a sin, but not always. - TheHabsFan
How does sexual immorality mean physical or mental abuse. Though it is funny that the husband can divorce his wife and it wouldn't be a sin on him just his wife unless his wife happened to have already committed adultery then hey you can feel better about divorcing her - germshep24
A lot of non-believers can't seem to understand this at all. They say things like, "Why does He pray to God for help? " Well, basically, during Jesus' time on Earth, He wasn't all knowing, and He wasn't all powerful, unless God wanted Him to be. That's the way I see it. It's also something that, we, as humans, can't fully grasp, how can Jesus be 100% human and 100% God? They're some highly complicated supernatural stuff going on here. - TheHabsFan
If he is 100% God then he is God it doesn't matter if God took the form of man for an insignificant portion of his life and decided to use an alternative name. God and Jesus are one in the same outside of Jesus also being used as a symbol of how man should be and as well as a symbol of man's salvage, The holy trinity is one in the same person: Father is God, the Son is God taken place in the form of man as a symbol how man should act and for a symbol of man salvage (and taking away the old covenant of slaughtering animals for forgiveness), and the holy spirit the Part of God that lives within us all symbolizing the knowledge we had got upon Adam and Eve eating from the tree for our sin gave us some of the knowledge that God and those that live them God are supposed to know - germshep24
This one is very very simple. It's not money that is evil, it's the love for money that's evil.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
1 Timothy 6:10
Money can definitely be used for great things. - TheHabsFan
Yes, but when non-believers say money is evil, that is what their saying love for money is evil. Money is merely an object an object can't be evil well unless it is possessed by a demon if you believe in that sort of thing - germshep24
This is a gift of the Spirit. It is God's will for everyone to have certain gifts of the Spirit. Not every Christian must speak in tongues. There's two kinds of tongues, private and public. Private tongues are you speaking to God privately, I don't know about private tongues because I don't have this gift and those that do don't show it off. Public tongues are not people speaking gobbledygook, it is people speaking in languages that they wouldn't know to a person that speaks that language, thus proving God's power in that person. For example: I am an English speaker, and only an English, if I had the gift of public tongues, I would speak in a language I don't know and God would be speaking through me, gospel spreading words. Let's say I was speaking Mandarin. Now this would only be legitimate public tongues if I was speaking to a Mandarin speaker who knew I couldn't speak Mandarin. The Mandarin speaker would then be like, "woah! How can this guy speak my language, and He's saying that ...more - TheHabsFan
Though honestly I think it is more some of the Christians that believe that speaking in tongue gives them a better connection to God, but I'm assuming when you say misunderstanding your talking about both Christians and non-Christians alike - germshep24
Not all Christians have to speak in tongues. In fact, in this day in age it's very uncommon. Quite a few people still speak in tongues nowadays, but it would mostly be private tongues: just you speaking unknown words to God (I don't know much about private tongues). Public tongues are very scarce, they just don't work like they did in Bible times. - TheHabsFan
Yes, of course they don't! They were written by four different people that wrote them decades after the events took place! Here's a little example: let's say there were four guys, Bob, Tom, Jim, and Ron. One day they went to a restuarant to eat, when the waiter served them he broke down and started crying, and then started punching the guys, things winded down and eventually the guys went home. A few decades passed and the guys started writing the story down, without getting help from each other at all. Another few decades pass, and finally the last story was written. This is how Bob's story went: A waiter served us our food and punched us. Tom's story: A waiter served us our food and started to cry, and then beat us up. Jim's story: A waitress served us our food and began to cry. And finally Ron's story: A waiter served us our food and punched us.
This might not be the most accurate example, but it gets the point across. Do you think 4 guys over decades and decades will all have ...more - TheHabsFan
Why did he go from physically appearing (obviously not in God true form because God's true form can only be seen by those that are worthy according to what God told Moses) during the Biblical times to all of a sudden not showing himself at all, even Jesus performed miracles to proof he was God, why stop there, if is followers needed proof why is it that all of a sudden human's don't need it now?
God would obviously now that many people will see the Bible as a work of fiction those make the miracles within the Bible look like a work of fiction or maybe just a philosophical book where the stories are all story to derive a lesson from why not keep that same connection God had with his people during the Old and New Testament - germshep24
