Top Ten Things that Cause Misunderstandings About Christianity

Jesus and the Bible get so much hate mainly because people don't understanding them correctly. A lot of people just don't put in the time to actually understand the wisdom of our Savior. Of all the misunderstandings that have been created about Christianity, which one do you think is the biggest? Feel free to comment. I do not want this list to bring hateful argument about. I'm just trying to show how misunderstood the Bible is, and Jesus Himself too.
The Top Ten
1 Jesus Doesn't Love Us

I'll hear people say, "If Jesus really loved us, then we'd all be in Heaven right now." Or "If Jesus really loved us, we'd all be happy." Things like that.
Before I go any further I'd like to make two things very clear: 1 - When you make an argument like "If Jesus really loves us, then why am I unhappy? " You have to assume Jesus is God and that He is perfect; so in all I say, I'm assuming Jesus is God, and that He's perfect; and we'll see if His teachings work. 2 - In order to be in Heaven, one must be perfect, and in order to be perfect, one must love the Lord with all his being.
So if Jesus just immediately put us all in Heaven without any tests or trials, Jesus would be making us love Him. There's no choice in Jesus just putting us in Heaven! Therefore if He did just put us all in Heaven, we'd all be robots programmed to love Him, which is not true love.
If you're unhappy, it's not God's fault, we're human and we make mistakes, and our mistakes lead to unpleasant outcomes. It's entirely humanities fault that there's so much pain. But thankfully Jesus does truly love us, He loves us so much that even after we mess up thousands of times, He is still guiding you and helping you, and all you have to do is obey Him and you will have infinite eternal love. If God didn't love you, you'd be in absolute unbearable pain every moment of your life.

2 Jesus Hates Homosexuals

This misunderstanding is so stupid. Very very simple to explain. In the Bible it says that those who practise homosexuality will not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. Where does it say that Jesus doesn't love them still? He's letting you choose to be homo or not, it's up to you. If you give in to your fleshful passions, then you're sinning. Basically, Jesus doesn't hate the sinners, he hates the sin! Because whenever you sin, you're turning your back on Jesus. How would you feel if you loved someone with all you heart, and you died to save them, but they still disobeyed and hated you? You'd feel horrid, and so does Jesus, that's why he hates sin. Jesus loves homosexuals, but hates homosexuality.

3 Women Having to Be Submissive to Men

Being submissive to your husband shouldn't be any different than women being submissive to God. Yes it would be wrong if the husband could say whatever he wanted of his wife, and his wife would have to do it. But that's not the case. Paul speaks on behalf of God saying, "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself."
- Ephesians 5:22-28
So basically what He's saying is that wives must submit to their husbands, but husbands must submit to God and must love their wives as themselves. If men were to obey God here, there would never arise an issue. But since we're sinners that, a lot of the time, don't love our wives as ourselves, we run into the issue of men using women. That's not what God wants. And if your husband is telling you to do things you shouldn't do, then obviously don't, God's commands are way greater than man's commands. If your marriage is founded on God and His commands, you will both love one another and no issues will arise. God doesn't want the wife to submit to her husband if he's being unreasonable. And by the way, us men have to submit to God, yes He's always going to be right, but He's a lot more wrathful.

4 God's Wrath

God's wrath isn't Him hating humans, again it's Him hating the sin! Like I said earlier, if you were to die to save someone, and they continued to disobey your commandments, you'd be pretty wrathful. Anyways, His love outdoes His wrath. And God's old testament wrath, is old, it's under the old covenant, a new covenant has been made!

5 Slavery in the Bible

First thing you've got to understand, is that the slavery takes place under the old covenant and in a completely different timeframe than what you're used to. Abraham's slaves weren't like the Egyptian Israelite slaves. Abraham's slaves were loved and properly taken care of, and had a lot more freedom than you think; while the Egyptian Israelite slaves were poorly treated and did all the work. When you hear the word slavery, you probably think of people doing hard labor 24/7 for their masters, which is what the Egyptian slaves would've looked like, and God makes it clear that that kind of slavery was wrong. Abraham's slaves weren't treated at all the same. Basically what's going on here is a equivocation on the word slavery, we've got two different definitions.

6 Divorce

People seem to think that divorce is never allowed, but that not true. Jesus says, "It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery." - Matthew 5:31-32. He makes it quite clear that divorce is allowed when sexual immorality is taking place, and so I would also assume that physical or mental abuse would be enough to get a divorce. Divorce can be a sin, but not always.

7 Jesus and God are the Same

A lot of non-believers can't seem to understand this at all. They say things like, "Why does He pray to God for help? " Well, basically, during Jesus' time on Earth, He wasn't all knowing, and He wasn't all powerful, unless God wanted Him to be. That's the way I see it. It's also something that, we, as humans, can't fully grasp, how can Jesus be 100% human and 100% God? They're some highly complicated supernatural stuff going on here.

8 Money is Evil

This one is very very simple. It's not money that is evil, it's the love for money that's evil.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
1 Timothy 6:10
Money can definitely be used for great things.

That's if you worship money instead of God, it's very evil! But it also depends!

That's actually a fact. Look into it. Money IS the root of all evil.

9 Speaking in Tongues

This is a gift of the Spirit. It is God's will for everyone to have certain gifts of the Spirit. Not every Christian must speak in tongues. There's two kinds of tongues, private and public. Private tongues are you speaking to God privately, I don't know about private tongues because I don't have this gift and those that do don't show it off. Public tongues are not people speaking gobbledygook, it is people speaking in languages that they wouldn't know to a person that speaks that language, thus proving God's power in that person. For example: I am an English speaker, and only an English, if I had the gift of public tongues, I would speak in a language I don't know and God would be speaking through me, gospel spreading words. Let's say I was speaking Mandarin. Now this would only be legitimate public tongues if I was speaking to a Mandarin speaker who knew I couldn't speak Mandarin. The Mandarin speaker would then be like, "woah! How can this guy speak my language, and He's saying that it's the gift of tongues that allows him to do this, and I must repent if I want to go to Heaven." Then, hopefully, the Mandarin would come to follow Jesus.
NOTE: It is very hard to write this complicated stuff down. Sorry, if I'm hard to understand.

10 The Four Gospels Don't 100% Line Up

Yes, of course they don't! They were written by four different people that wrote them decades after the events took place! Here's a little example: let's say there were four guys, Bob, Tom, Jim, and Ron. One day they went to a restuarant to eat, when the waiter served them he broke down and started crying, and then started punching the guys, things winded down and eventually the guys went home. A few decades passed and the guys started writing the story down, without getting help from each other at all. Another few decades pass, and finally the last story was written. This is how Bob's story went: A waiter served us our food and punched us. Tom's story: A waiter served us our food and started to cry, and then beat us up. Jim's story: A waitress served us our food and began to cry. And finally Ron's story: A waiter served us our food and punched us.
This might not be the most accurate example, but it gets the point across. Do you think 4 guys over decades and decades will all have the same memories about the whole story? Of course not. They're human, they forget little details, and might accidentally get some small info wrong. The fact that the 4 gospels are so similar is what's really crazy. And that's because God wanted the key storyline to be held up through all of them, so He helped them remembered what He needed them to remember.
