Things that Caused the Simpsons Collapse
This definitely would have affected the show's downfall and also the fan's perspective of the show and overall viewing experience. Since the point of seasons 22-23 (2011), the show has quite significantly decreased in quality, BUT, the show was already in a decline. This comes naturally with long-running sitcoms and non-soap scripted T.V. series.

After it's release, Matt Groaning became more focused on Futurama then he left
This ruined the simpsons
I agree, it's a combination of small changes and losses with time, (such as this one) that have affected the 'collapse', not just one specific event or thing.
Lost a lot of characters
Later this year the simpsons will be scrapped
Many hardcore fans consider this episode, "The Principal and the Pauper", 'the first bad episode' or simply the episode that caused the downfall Because of the episode's controversy, it has made fans believe, or at least hope to believe, that the episode is in fact, non-canon. Although, this theory is unlikely as the episode's events have been mentioned in other episode(s) and the writers have not suggested, that it be non-canon.
