Top 10 Things that Certain Media Works Have Been Hugely Praised for that Weren't Actually Very Big Accomplishments

The Top Ten

Generation One Transformers being slightly better-written and less pretentious than the Michael Bay Transformers film series

Yeah that does not sound hard. Its funny remembering that I liked the Bay version at the time but looking back just thinking oh yeah that was actually pretty bad.

Super Metroid rendering the first two Metroid games entirely obsolete by comparison to it
Final Fantasy VI having the overall best-written main villain to ever appear in a Super Nintendo game, except that he (Kefka) is still extremely one-dimensional and a blatant carbon copy of the Joker from the Batman franchise
Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame being actually decent sequels to Avengers 2012 where Age Of Ultron failed

(Thanos memes, overdone CGI, pretentious storylines, cringe-inducing Fortnite product placement, overshot lengths, painfully unfunny jokes, completely shameless fan-service, ludicrously overhyped anti-twist endings and blatant Captain Marvel shoehorning that was more-than-likely purely for the sake of agenda-pushing and standalone-movie-advertising aside) - xandermartin98

I thought these movies were marvelous. - Misfire

Futurama being a funnier and more interesting show overall than what The Simpsons turned into during its home decade (the 2000s)
Rocko's Modern Life being the best installment of the 1990s Nicktoons franchise, as well as probably the least ridiculously overrated show between it, Spongebob Squarepants and The Ren & Stimpy Show

Also the reason why Spongebob exists - xandermartin98

The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild actually having reasonably enjoyable and non-completely-broken gameplay where The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim didn't

I disagree. I love Elder Scrolls, and the bugs make it more fun sometimes. - MattAffterburner

OK Computer being far and away the best Radiohead album
Undertale's Pacifist run having a better-written and better-told storyline than about 95% of other video games as a whole

Geez you seem to like Undertale but some of your lists make me think otherwise - UltraIsBack

Black Panther 2018 being almost exactly the same as every other generic mass-produced superhero film, except with a black male lead instead of a white male lead

The Contenders

Batman: The Animated Series basically just being an extended version of the Burton/Schumacher Batman films but with all of the things that they did wrong being done right

Amazing show! - RobertWisdom

The Loud House being better than about 95% of what Nickelodeon turned into after Spongebob Squarepants' golden years (Seasons 1-4) ended

I heavily agree with this one. Rabbids Invasion > Loud House. Fight me. - TheAwesomeBowser

Another Metroid 2 Remake being colossally better than anything that Nintendo had officially put out for the Metroid franchise between its release and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption's

(cough, the Z-Factor and Ancient Chozo hacks for Super Metroid were SO much better, cough) - xandermartin98

Super Mario Galaxy having a "space gravity" mechanic and a few incredibly epic orchestrated songs in its soundtrack

Sonic Adventure 2 had the Rouge Ark level with the moons. And that was before Super Mario Galaxy. I don't know about the orchestra however.

Star Trek being slightly less overrated than Star Wars

Slightly less overrated? Compared to Star Wars, Star Trek is rated properly. Many fans of Star Wars give the series so much credit for doing things that Star Trek did a decade before that film's release.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's having the most feels out of all the entries of the Lyrical Nanoha franchise

I love A's and all but I honestly prefer StrikerS over it. Fight me. - PerfectImpulseX

The first Michael Bay Transformers film almost looking like a legitimate masterpiece when compared to the rest of its saga
The Tim Burton Batman films being several leagues better than the Joel Schumacher ones
The Fistful Of Dollars trilogy essentially just being like any other Western prior to the releases of its films, but with the tropes and cliches being less irritatingly obvious
Yoshi's Island graphically looking better than its original Super Mario World predecessor

Technically shouldn't be a sequel. My guess is that they thought a Yoshi game wouldn't sell so they put Mario in the title. And Yoshi's Island sucks. - RobertWisdom

Why is it actually one of the greatest games ever made, then?

Okay, granted, it's not even nearly on the level of Super Metroid or even the original Super Mario World (when considering how utterly mind-blowing the ROM-hacking scene surrounding those two games happens to be, anyway), but still - xandermartin98

That’s true - UltraIsBack

The Matrix being more or less an average action film except edgier, flashier and more pseudo-intellectual
Old Spongebob being better than New Spongebob
The Last Of Us having a better storyline than most other video games of its nature

Most video games of that nature or any other nature don't have much of a storyline anyway.

God Of War 2018 being basically just a well-written version of the old God Of War games, with the Last Of Us storyline formula being very thickly applied
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse being essentially your typical Social Justice Warrior superhero flick except done right
Old Ghostbusters being better than New (2016) Ghostbusters
Wonder Woman 2017 being exactly the same as every other generic mass-produced superhero film, except a good bit better than most of the others and with a white female lead instead of a white male one
Avatar: The Last Airbender being the most maturely written of the Nicktoons
Invader Zim being the most maturely themed of the Nicktoons
Rocko's Modern Life and The Ren & Stimpy Show being the overall most adult-oriented (humor-wise) of the Nicktoons
Ren & Stimpy being aesthetically the best-looking of the first three Nicktoons
Naruto being slightly less overrated than Dragon Ball
Phoenix Wright being slightly less pretentious than Danganronpa
Old Star Wars being colossally better than New Star Wars
Half-Life 2 having vastly more of a plot to it when compared to the original Half-Life installment
New Zelda having actual storylines where Old Zelda didn't
The Terminator making Arnold Schwarzenegger seem like a believable actor by having him play the role of an emotionless robot
Punch-Out Wii being a monumental improvement over its original Nintendo Entertainment System counterpart
Rick & Morty being smarter than most other cartoons
Bojack Horseman being more genuinely adult than most other "adult" cartoons
Super Smash Bros Melee having, in some ways, a slightly less unbalanced character roster than Brawl's
Resident Evil 4 having better controls than the first three Resident Evil games
Rocko's Modern Life jumping the shark slightly less so after its third season than most other Nicktoons
Futurama not jumping the shark quite as badly as The Simpsons and Spongebob Squarepants did
The Simpsons being superior to Family Guy in every way possible
Super Metroid adding diagonal aiming to its series
Earthbound and Mother 3 actually being good games where Earthbound Zero wasn't
Undertale having a slightly less one-dimensional morality system than the ones in most other video games
Fallout 4 having slightly more polished gameplay than Fallout 3
Half-Life having a completely average first-person-shooter storyline but told in a more immersive fashion
