That started in the fifties. So, if you're saying that the rumours of bad influences killed Rock and Roll you're in fact saying that Rock and Roll died in the fifties. And in a way it's those rumours that helped the popularity of Rock and Roll amongst the young generation in the fifties.
The death of Elvis didn't really killed Rock music. It killed " The King of Rock ". After Elvis's death many people rediscovered fifties rock and that did even give a rock and roll revival in the late 70's and early 80's. Many fifties Rockabilly compilations came out on records again. Besides Elvis Presley is still today the most selling death artist on vinyl and Cd's.
