Later, I was surprised to learn that most people had never heard of the condemnation of the Stalin personality cult in 1956 and the massive liberalization in the 1950s and 1960s under Khrushchev and Brezhnev, known as "warming". Even under Stalin, the communists were not exactly "Kill You If You Speak", while the Soviet Union of the 1950s - 1990s was very, very far from these stereotypes.
