Top 10 Things That Suck About Otherwise Good Animated Series

Yes, cartoons and anime both count here (if you can think of an anime to add here)

The Top Ten

1 Futurama and The Simpsons both being reduced into withering shells of their former selves by seasonal rot

With the severely watered-down Bender of Futurama's later seasons being probably the most obvious example of this - xandermartin98

2 Looney Tunes being pure mindless slapstick and nothing else

Wait, how is Looney Toons otherwise good? Oh yes, I forgot, because it's old...

No matter how hard it may try to feature legit political satire, the attempts simply never work out - xandermartin98

That's what makes comedy, right?

3 Clone High having only one season, with an extremely blatant cliffhanger ending just to make matters even worse (also, the fact that it uses the Total Drama art style)

Apart from being one of THE funniest and most criminally underrated shows of the 2000s and EASILY one of the greatest comedic works ever put out by Canada PERIOD (even if the latter of those two statements REALLY isn't saying much), Clone High also ended itself in a way that was incredibly disappointing to say the LEAST.

(major spoiler warning)
So basically, as the theme song very concisely explains, Clone High is about an experimental high school populated by rather amusingly deformed and out-of-character genetic copies of famous old-age celebrities such as Gandhi (who is now an extremely hyperactive party animal as well as a bit of a wigger), George Washington Carver (NOTE: he is not at all related to United States President George Washington and is in fact the exact opposite skin color), Abraham Lincoln (but without the balls), Joan Of Arc (who is now a stereotypical angst-ridden emo girl), John F. Kennedy (but without the brains), and Genghis Khan (also without the ...more - xandermartin98

4 Extreme over-reliance on gross-out humor in The Ren & Stimpy Show, and occasionally Rocko's Modern Life and Spongebob Squarepants as well (albeit to a far lesser extent for those two)

Honestly, in Ren & Stimpy's case, it makes the show pretty much completely unwatchable for me since it uses its over-the-top visuals and shock value as a cheap substitute for actually being well-written in the slightest (at least 90 percent of the time, that is) and just is generally hugely outclassed to say the LEAST by its Rocko contemporary, contrary to popular belief

As for Spongebob...yeah, let's not get started on Squidward's disembodied toenail and the Splinter - xandermartin98

Hit or miss, I guess they never miss huh - Not_A_Weeaboo

5 Invader ZIM having only two rather short seasons and also trying way, way, WAY too hard to be edgy in both of them (also, its absolutely insane Gir/Zim/Dib fangirls)

Another show that I really, REALLY wish would be continued, just to show Nick what an actually good show is (luckily, however, it IS actually being brought back in the form of an animated movie special alongside the also godlike Rocko's Modern Life, hopefully some time in 2019, so we probably shouldn't worry TOO much) - xandermartin98

6 Spongebob Squarepants and Fairly Odd Parents both horrendously jumping the shark (mid-series for the former, late-series for the latter)

Honestly, Spongebob's "drought period" was nowhere near as bad as people said it was, but Fairly Odd Parents' on the other hand...good God, where do I even begin (well, there's Poof, Sparky and Chloe, just for starters) - xandermartin98

7 The complete inability of Rocko's Modern Life to decide what its target audience age is supposed to be (especially in Season 1), and also the severe under-usage of certain characters such as Filburt, Dr. Hutchison, Heffer's family and Ralph Bighead

Also, the ironically bland-looking art style (despite the actual animation OF said art style looking INCREDIBLY gorgeous for its time, and in many ways even TODAY), coupled with the show (seemingly, though probably not actually) trying WAY too hard to be Ren & Stimpy at quite a few moments throughout its run, mostly during, again, Season One (Leap Frogs and Flu-In-U-Enza immediately come to mind, for example)

Seriously though, why couldn't the show have been bothered to at least flesh Hutchison out just a LITTLE more, if nothing else? At least my brain-fetish fanfic about literally "getting inside her head" sort of addresses that issue

(please read Filburt's Postmodern Wife today, as it's one of the most arousingly nightmarish things you'll ever witness) - xandermartin98

8 The extremely forced memes in Spongebob Squarepants

Completely Impossible Challenge: Try surfing the Internet's many, many, MANY extremely cancerous social media websites for an extended period of time without bearing witness to AT LEAST one if not SEVERAL of these - xandermartin98

9 Rick & Morty thinking itself to be obnoxiously more intelligent, sophisticated and meaningful than it actually is (when it is actually an extremely merchandise-driven show in reality)

I think that was the fans. - MemeTheKeem

"You Need To Have a Very High IQ To Understand the Underlying Intracacies" jokes aside, do I really need to mention that this, of all shows, is in fact one of the most recent content producers to become guilty of making the infamous "Fart Planet" joke? - xandermartin98

10 Animal Cruelty in Courage the Cowardly Dog

The Contenders

11 Whenever Avatar: The Last Airbender and the old Teen Titans try to appeal to anime fans by forcing stupid anime cliches and sight gags into episodes

With Beast Boy and Sokka being easily among the shows' worst offenders character-wise - xandermartin98

12 Geneon's English dub of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's
13 South Park being too afraid to use the real Donald Trump when making fun of him in Season 20

Right, after making fun of OSAMA BIN LADEN in the "Farty Pants" episode - xandermartin98

25 How egregiously Rugrats got milked by Nickelodeon
26 Earthworm Jim only having two seasons
27 Freakazoid's obnoxious "LOL, so random" humor
28 Sheen and his "Planet Sheen" spinoff from Jimmy Neutron

34 John Kricfalusi (Ren & Stimpy)
35 ViVid Strike!'s OVA Specials that mostly feel like bland filler

37 F-Zero Gp Legend episodes lasted 15 episodes and never completed 51 episodes in U.S.
38 Dragon Ball Z's English dubs
39 The Buzz On Maggie not taking nearly enough advantage of its wonderfully bizarre "anthropomorphic houseflies that live in a garbage dump" setting
40 Rocko's Modern Life revolving way too much around mercilessly torturing its main protagonist
41 The Mr. Garrison sex-change episode of South Park
42 The Buzz On Maggie having only one season
