Top 10 Things That Suck About Otherwise Good Animated Series
Yes, cartoons and anime both count here (if you can think of an anime to add here)With the severely watered-down Bender of Futurama's later seasons being probably the most obvious example of this
No matter how hard it may try to feature legit political satire, the attempts simply never work out
Wait, how is Looney Toons otherwise good? Oh yes, I forgot, because it's old...
That's what makes comedy, right?
Apart from being one of THE funniest and most criminally underrated shows of the 2000s and EASILY one of the greatest comedic works ever put out by Canada PERIOD (even if the latter of those two statements REALLY isn't saying much), Clone High also ended itself in a way that was incredibly disappointing to say the LEAST.
(major spoiler warning)
So basically, as the theme song very concisely explains, Clone High is about an experimental high school populated by rather amusingly deformed and out-of-character genetic copies of famous old-age celebrities such as Gandhi (who is now an extremely hyperactive party animal as well as a bit of a wigger), George Washington Carver (NOTE: he is not at all related to United States President George Washington and is in fact the exact opposite skin color), Abraham Lincoln (but without the balls), Joan Of Arc (who is now a stereotypical angst-ridden emo girl), John F. Kennedy (but without the brains), and Genghis Khan (also without the ...more
Honestly, in Ren & Stimpy's case, it makes the show pretty much completely unwatchable for me since it uses its over-the-top visuals and shock value as a cheap substitute for actually being well-written in the slightest (at least 90 percent of the time, that is) and just is generally hugely outclassed to say the LEAST by its Rocko contemporary, contrary to popular belief
As for Spongebob...yeah, let's not get started on Squidward's disembodied toenail and the Splinter
Another show that I really, REALLY wish would be continued, just to show Nick what an actually good show is (luckily, however, it IS actually being brought back in the form of an animated movie special alongside the also godlike Rocko's Modern Life, hopefully some time in 2019, so we probably shouldn't worry TOO much)
Honestly, Spongebob's "drought period" was nowhere near as bad as people said it was, but Fairly Odd Parents' on the other hand...good God, where do I even begin (well, there's Poof, Sparky and Chloe, just for starters)
Also, the ironically bland-looking art style (despite the actual animation OF said art style looking INCREDIBLY gorgeous for its time, and in many ways even TODAY), coupled with the show (seemingly, though probably not actually) trying WAY too hard to be Ren & Stimpy at quite a few moments throughout its run, mostly during, again, Season One (Leap Frogs and Flu-In-U-Enza immediately come to mind, for example)
Seriously though, why couldn't the show have been bothered to at least flesh Hutchison out just a LITTLE more, if nothing else? At least my brain-fetish fanfic about literally "getting inside her head" sort of addresses that issue
(please read Filburt's Postmodern Wife today, as it's one of the most arousingly nightmarish things you'll ever witness)
Completely Impossible Challenge: Try surfing the Internet's many, many, MANY extremely cancerous social media websites for an extended period of time without bearing witness to AT LEAST one if not SEVERAL of these
"You Need To Have a Very High IQ To Understand the Underlying Intracacies" jokes aside, do I really need to mention that this, of all shows, is in fact one of the most recent content producers to become guilty of making the infamous "Fart Planet" joke?
With Beast Boy and Sokka being easily among the shows' worst offenders character-wise
Right, after making fun of OSAMA BIN LADEN in the "Farty Pants" episode
