Doctor Who Series 12: Orphan 55 Review (SPOILERS!)

2storm This episode was kinda blah. It could've been a lot better. Let's get into why.

Plot
Up first is Orphan 55. After the events of Spyfall, Graham got tickets to go on a vacation. The Doctor was still suffering from seeing Gallifrey. The Doctor, Graham, Yaz, and Ryan end up on the vacation planet called Tranquility Spa via Transport cube. Hyph3n, a cat like creature, welcomes them and they all go their separate ways. Graham just relaxes, Yaz hilariously interferes on Benni - an old man - proposing to Vilma - an old lady -, and Ryan tries to get a snack out of vending machine; but he ends up getting Hopper Virus, which the Doctor ends up extracting from him. While recovering, Ryan meets a girl named Bella. An alarm then goes off and the guests are asked to assemble. The Doctor gets Hyph3n to let her into the security room. That is where the Doctor meets Kane. The Doctor becomes suspicious when she figures out an ionic membrane is protecting the planet. Apparently creatures have broken into the Spa and have started killing guests and to make matters worse the Hopper Virus has also made its way into the Spa. All of surviving guests go to the Security room. Including: Nevi; the Spa's mechanic, Sylas; his son, and Vilma. Vilma notices Benni is gone. The Doctor makes a new Ionic membrane which banished the monsters. Kane reveals the monsters are called Dreg's and the Spa was a "fakeation". The Spa was meant to look like a vacation, but in a fabricated environment. The Spa has a radar system for locating all the guest and it shows Benni outside the ionic membrane with the Dregs. Everyone then leaves the Spa in a protected vehicle and with limited air. Kane then reveals they are on a orphan planet, specifically Orphan 55. The group falls in a trap as the Dregs surround the vehicle and they reveal they kept Benni as a hostage. Benni is able to speak and he finally proposes to Vilma. He then asks to be killed. The group decides to run to a nearby tunnel to go back to the Spa. Hyph3n ends up being killed and Kane shoots Benni. When the group gets in the tunnel Bella reveals she is Kane's daughter that was neglected, so Kane could make Tranquility Spa. Bella escapes with Ryan via transporter back to the Spa. The group continues on until the Doctor, Yaz, and Graham find a rusted Russian sign. The group assumes this is Earth destroyed by Global Warming and Nuclear War. Vilma sacrifices herself, so they can escape. The group comes upon a group of Dregs. The Doctor reads on their minds and figures out the Dregs are humans that were mutated to survive. Kane stays behind to buy the group more time. Meanwhile Bella makes a plan to destroy the Spa out of anger. The group eventually convinces her not to. Nevi and Sylas fix the transporter to leave the Spa. The Dregs start to move in after Bella destroyed the ionic membrane. Bella and Kane, who somehow survived, end up reuniting and they stay to fight the Dregs. Nevi and Sylas end up transporting home and The Doctor, Graham, Yaz, and Ryan end up on the TARDIS. The group despairs over the destruction of Earth, but the Doctor tells them that that is only one possible future and Earth can either decide to make a positive change or end up like the Dregs.

Positives
I guess I should do the positives. The episode was good until the big reveal that Orphan 55 was Earth. The Doctor had some great moments and Ryan didn't sound like a retard the whole time. It was a decent plot and the Dregs were decently scary (could've been scarier though). Now on to the negatives.

Negatives
The biggest negative was that climate change statement. Now giving some credit to Doctor Who, the show has always done this even the best episodes. Satan's Pit, The End of the World, The Big Bang, Death in Heaven, Rosa, Demons of Punjab, and The Witchfinders. Some of those are amazing and honestly some of my favorites like Satan's Pit, The Big Bang, and Death in Heaven. But some of them are dead awful like Rosa and The Witchfinders. If you are going to put a political, spiritual, or moral statement in a episode you have to do it the right way. Orphan 55 does not do that. If you look more at the characters, I really didn't like Bella or Kane. The Dregs weren't as scary as they were hyped up. This episode was as bad as some of the episodes in Season 10 and 11.

Questions and What to Look Forward To
Question 1. Will the Dregs return?
I thought the Dregs were overall alright, but I honestly don't know if they can return and honestly I don't want them to return. The Dregs represented mankind. The answer to this question is no they should not.
Question 2. Was the Transport Cube used by The Time Lords to Escape Gallifrey?
At the beginning we saw a transport cube. That may be an explanation if the Time Lords escaped from Gallifrey before the Master destroyed Gallifrey. We could see this Transport Cube coming back.
Question 3. How did Kane Survive the Dregs?
How exactly did Kane survive the Dregs? She survived them twice actually. Instead of being torn apart she was thrown in the first encounter. Then the second time how did she get out of the Dregs nest. Something fishy might be going on.
Question 4. How did The Doctor Run Out of Breath?
During the episode the Doctor ran out of breath. The Doctor once said he could hold his breath and he had more breath than a human. Now I get it she talked a lot, but still.
Question 5. Why did Kane Abandon Bella?
I mean it is possible to have a family life and work life. Could she just not do it?

Opinion
Honestly not a good episode. It could've been so much better. It was just mediocre. It wasn't the worst of all-time, but it was not necessarily good.
