Top Ten Thrash Metal Songs with the Best Intros

I know not all songs by Thrash Metal bands are fast and aggressive, but there are some slower songs on this list, and pretty much any song considered thrash metal counts. However, the ones with the greatest intros are considered superior on this list.

The Top Ten

1 Raining Blood - Slayer

Probably the greatest intro in pretty much any heavy metal song. It starts off dark and stormy, until it gradually gets more intense, as the guitar playing only gets faster and more aggressive. Then does one of the greatest Slayer songs come out from that.

You can't listen to this song without listening to Postmortem first. You just can't - ryanrimmel

Without a doubt - this is a masterpiece - Ananya

2 Holy Wars... the Punishment Due - Megadeth

This intro shows the true talent of Dave Mustaine, and his entire band itself, and is the start of one of the greatest thrash metal albums of all time.

This isn't my favorite thrash song but this is probably my favorite metal intro of all time. - Metal_Treasure

3 Alison Hell - Annihilator

This intro is a huge masterpiece, that feels like it was written by Mozart or even Beethoven, due to this really unique intro in a Thrash Metal song, and while it has some great thrash, it also has those softer melodic parts, and is probably one of the best intro's in any metal song, along with Raining Blood.

Definitely - this intro is brilliant. The entire song is a masterpiece. - Metal_Treasure

4 Ride the Lightning - Metallica

I know this song seems to be very similar to Blacklist when it comes to the intro, but I like Blacklist's better for it's reasons.

I love the way guitars and drums are paired - sounds awesome. - Metal_Treasure

5 Master of Puppets - Metallica
6 Blacklist - Exodus

You know you are into one of my favorite metal songs of all time when you listen to the intro. The pounding drums and opening guitars go really well together, and leads up to some really awesome riffs and a pretty great solo in the song. This is truly a thrash metal classic, even though it isn't the fastest song.

One of the best love the riff, vocals and the solo

My favourite song from less than one year ago

Fast, great vocals...just great - Ananya

7 Schizos (Are Never Alone) Parts I & II - Annihilator

This intro is fast and technical as hell yet melodic. The entire song is a riff fest because it's mostly instrumental with awesome riffs coming one after another in a progressive way. A true technical thrash masterpiece. Jeff Waters at his best. - Metal_Treasure

8 Blackened - Metallica

This song is one of my favorite songs from Metallica's...And Justice For All, and the intro is the most unique one I have ever seen Metallica make, and is far different from Battery or Fight Fire with Fire, and even after that one part, comes a really unique riff, that starts an album that needs so much talent to make, that only thrash veterans like Metallica, Slayer, Overkill, and Exodus could produce.

9 For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica
10 Funeral Hymn - Exodus

It's about 2 minutes long and for some reason this is probably my favorite Exodus intro (2007). Not fast or very technical but it really gets my blood pumping. - Metal_Treasure

The Contenders

11 Battery - Metallica

After a slow, soft, melodic intro, that gradually gets heavier as the song goes, starts off what is said to be the greatest heavy metal album of all time, and then does the true thrash of Metallica begin.

12 Time to Kill - Overkill

I'm actually pretty surprised that they didn't put the intro in a seperate song like they did with Iron Maiden's The Ides of March or Judas Priest's The Hellion. It's a pretty good intro, and is one of those that can stand out from the song. Now do you see why Overkill is my favorite Thrash Metal band of all time?

13 Masked Jackal - Coroner

Coroner are a lesser known band from Switzerland, formed in 1983. A hidden gem. Check out the TopTens list "Best Coroner Songs" and youtube. - Metal_Treasure

14 Black Prophecies - Dark Angel

A very commanding and impressive intro to an epic thrash song from 1986. - Metal_Treasure

15 Crypts of Eternity - Slayer

This is a very underrated song by Slayer, and I suggest you check it out. The drumming seems to be different compared to the normal song, and this intro, with the solo in it is actually pretty great, and is a song worth checking out.

16 Souls of Black - Testament

Testament seems to be one of those thrash metal bands I always found overrated, and never really liked too much, and out of them, Exodus, Overkill, and Kreator, they are my least favorite. However, I guess the intro to this song isn't too bad.

17 Indians - Anthrax

Best drum intro, not to easy or to hard to play, and really cool

18 Tornado of Souls - Megadeth
19 One - Metallica
20 Haunted - Annihilator
21 A.D.I. / Horror of It All - Anthrax

I'm glad to see this here - Ananya

22 Practice What You Preach - Testament
23 Caught in a Mosh - Anthrax
24 I Am the Law - Anthrax
25 ...And Justice for All - Metallica
26 Seek and Destroy - Metallica
27 Peace Sells - Megadeth
28 Nightmare - Venom
29 Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - Metallica
30 Symphony of Destruction - Megadeth
31 Seasons in the Abyss - Slayer
32 Killing Fields - Slayer
33 Good Mourning / Black Friday - Megadeth

The perfect intro, 3 minutes long, descends into chaos slowly.
