How to Train Your Dragon
One of the many things I loved about this movie is that while it may begin cliche and the overall message seems overused, it ends up very different and the plot is superb.
For example, one common animated theme is that you need to learn to be true to yourself. However, even if it seems like Hiccup was being something that wasn't himself, it soon becomes clear that he isn't. At first he wants to kill dragons, sure, but he intended to with his brain, not brute strength. Hiccup always knew that he was different, and didn't really try to change that. He only wanted others to come around and accept him for himself.
Another thing I love is that How to Train Your Dragon may follow along the "Nobody is bad, only misunderstood" lines in the beginning, but it eventually shows Hiccup and Toothless, different in their respective species, teaming up to fight the real villain.
Something I would be leaving out without mentioning is Powell's soundtrack. It's simply ...more - UselessReptile
I love this movie so much. It teaches us about serve one an other, or help one an other. I think it's a great movie for kids. It was so touching at the end I almost cried. You rock Toothless!
I fell in love with this movie then I read the book and it was awful compared to the movie this is the only movie ware the movie is better then the book. Sure the book is good but I love love love this movie and it is really is nothing like the book which is the reason I don't like the book too much. I really hate everything from DreamWorks but this movie, I have no idea how DreamWorks made that amazing movie. The only thing that that they did not change from the book to the movie was the character's names and that they are vikings. I don't no how DreamWorks did it but they made an instant classic the epic movie that started the two T.V. shows (riders/defenders of berk, the Netflix original series race to the edge) the second movie( the best second movie ever) and in 2018 the third movie, the short stories (legend of the boneknapper, the gift of the night fury, dragon legends, dawn of the dragon racers) the two games the two most popular games (rise of Berk and school of dragons). Wow... Just wow... This movie is fantastic. It absolutely blew me away the first time in 3D in the cinemas and still does every other time I watch it. The movie is based on the book by Cressida Cowell and this is the first time I'm ever going to say this but, the film is better than the book. The characters are so relatable and you just feel like your in the movie every time you watch it. The title may fool you at first, but please don't let it. The whole script of the movie is just amazing and the voices just fit the characters perfectly. It is very, very detailed and I don't just mean the dragons and characters, I mean everything in it. Everything from the scenery to the dragons scales are just perfect. And the animation and graphics just... Wow. It is one of the best animated movies of all time and it definitely exceeded my expectations of it when I was dragged to see it with my friend. I thought I wouldn't like it. I was totally and completely wrong. It is perfect in every way and ...more
This film is the best film I've seen in my life, its funny, childish and heart warming. This film you don't just watch it you feel it too. I love it.
This film is by far the most amazing animation movie I have ever seen in my life. A lot of people are getting misleaded by the title, but as they say: don't judge a book by its cover! The story plot was fantastic and very creative, and it was as if you were actually there, sitting on a dragon and flying. The soundtracks were fantastic, and brought more atmosphere into the film. The characters themselves were very funny and unique in their own way and the graphics were fabulous! Not only was it so humorous, but it also had some deep, upsetting moments in it too. The relationship between the main character, Hiccup, and the dragon, Toothless, was very strong and also surprisingly taught you a lot about friendship. It was also lovely how Dreamworks added some romance into this animation between Hiccup and Astrid. The islands were amazing and looked stunning in 3D, and the action was 10 out of 10. Every single detail of this animation was fantastic, and I am pretty sure the sequel will be ...more
For me, the characteristic marks of a great movie is one you won't regret paying to watch, one that you would be happy to see multiple times, and one that you would never forget. This is one of those movies.
It became my favorite movie of all time the first time I watched it. It actually has good humor, action, non-cheesy heartwarming scenes, and there are no boring parts to boot (which can often make a movie almost unbearable sometimes).
There really needs to be more movies out there that are as imaginative as this one. It just reminds me of what movies used to be like before they started feeding off each other's stagnant ideas.
I can't tell you how happy I am that it's first! I love it so much I want to punch myself in the face. I managed to watch both this movie and the second one 5 times each in one day (no regrets! ). It's not perfect, of course, and Astrid is a jealous jerk who thinks she's better than everyone else. But anyway... the plot and acting are really good and Toothless is AWESOME! He's the perfect mix of badass and adorable. I wasn't a fan of the first three scenes, and I have to admit that I expected it to be more like the books, though the movie overall is just great. - LeiaSkywalker
I didn't know that HTYD was this popular until I researched this, but now that I see that its all too obvious about which movie would rise above the rest. However, I feel bad that Dreamworks tried to milk everything they could out of the movie, and, sorry, but in my opinion, the follow up television series was extremely low quality, and the only reason anyone watched it was because they included all of their favorite characters, primarily Toothless.
I hope that this mistake is not made again, and that Dreamworks will use that same thoughtfulness they used when they made the movie, so that perhaps they will find a different way of making money, rather than creating cheap T.V. shows.
This is literally the best movie I have ever seen in my life. If you look deeper than just in the screen, you'll realize things that weren't too obvious. There is depth to this movie, unlike any other. The bond between Hiccup and Toothless is one you will never forget. The character development is immense. The most amazing musical score I have ever heard is paired with it- the scene Forbidden Friendship had me gasping for breath because I was so amazed. A must-see. This movie deserves its two sequel films.
The best movie of all time! Voicing is great and the characters are well-drawn. What can I say more? Go watch this movie and you will find yourself watching the movie all over again. Once you finished it, you will undoubtly pray for June 20, 2014 to be tomorrow so that you can finally watch the sequel. Dreamworks did a great job. I am a Pixar-fan but ever since watching this movie, it made me a Dreamworks-fan. A heart-warming and touching movie between the friendship of a human and a beast.
Best movie ever and sure they may use some mild language but they are vikings and the always stop it before they finish the thing they are about to say like in the T.V. series while they are talking they walk of the screen and you stop hearing what they are saying or another viking would say "I'm going to stop you there" or if they are going to say something disturbing some one will say "I would like to be able to sleep to night" and they don't say any thing to bad I mean they don't say curse words but they say words like shutup or it sucks but they are not awful words they are mild words. So if you don't like this movie because of the language you are a baby.
The movie is great and extremely heart warming. I love it so much that I've seen it like 6 times. So far it is the best Dreamworks movie ever. It has action, a lot of depth, heartwarming moments, and a great storyline. I can't wait to figure out what the next How To Train Your Dragon will be about. Plus Toothless is the cutest character I've ever seen in a movie especially at the end of the movie.
My favorite movie right now, no doubt about it! Everything is perfect, the storyline and characters are exactly right, and over all this is an unforgettable movie. It's dramatic, fantastic, funny, has action and everything anyone could ever hope for. Amazing film for audiences of all ages, every sing person I know absolutely loves this movie! If you haven't seen it you haven't lived, so please go see it no matter what!
This movie will steal your heart. Hiccup and Toothless are such good friends. If you think this movie is bad, go get a life. You will want to watch this movie again and again. It is magical and humorous, and it was funny when Gobber kept saying he wet his underwear. You can watch the movie and feel like you can reach out and touch the characters. The texture is outstanding, and if you could feel the dragon scales you would know instantly that it was a dragon. I perfectly understand why this funny, suspenseful, heart-melting movie is number 1 in the top ten best Dreamworks movies - rika345
My favorite Dreamworks movie! WHY Dreamworks? WHY ARE YOU RUNNING IT INTO THE GROUND LIKE THIS!?!? WHY?! All the originals are amazing, but everything after that was not as great, I mean, they don't even bother with amazing graphics anymore! Besides, it's lacking the breath-taking music! Just Hiccup telling everyone how to fight things! I mean, I love the show, if it wasn't supposed to be so similar to the originals! WHY!?!?!?!
This is an amazing movie! When I first saw the trailer for it, I didn't know what to expect. I had a feeling it would be dumb and stupid, but it's very much the opposite. Great effects, amazing characters, a wonderful storyline, plus it's about dragons! How much cooler can you get than that?! I also really love the connection between Hiccup and Toothless, priceless! This movie is definitely worth seeing if you haven't already.
I. Love. This. Movie. Flushed Away had been my favorite animated movie for years, but this one beat it, hands down. I've seen it six times now, and every time it just makes me love it more. There are too few movies these days with the kind of amazingly witty humor this movie has. Paired with such an awesome storyline, who could help but love this movie?
How to Train Your Dragon is a favorite of mine not because of the animation, the action sequences, or the characters, all of which are great aspects of th movie. No, How To Train Your Dragon is the only Dreamworks movie to date that completely takes itself seriously. It's a timeless adventure movie that I will always love.
This is the best animated film I've ever seen. It has amazing music, likeable characters, a fantastic climax, and real depth and character development. This movie also had the nerve to do something to its main character near the end that I've never seen before in a kid's movie. It was a surprising movie that treats its audience with respect.
This is my favorite movie of all time! It's original and breathtaking! Each scene has so much detail and it's stunning. I love this movie so much! It has great lessons and the music is great! Each time I watch it, it's like I'm watching it for the first time all over again! The music and adorable characters make the movie! Well done Dreamworks!
I loved this movie. The whole plot line was very unique and all of the characters, even the dragons, had their unique personalities and roles in the storyline, which made it all the better. Not only were there a lot of funny moments, there was also plenty of action and even some deep moments when you almost wanted to cry. It was perfect.
I absolutely love this movie, it has to be my favorite. The graphics were amazing, the soundtrack is so beautiful and it fits the movie perfectly. The characters and voice actors just make this movie so awesome! I've watched How To Train Your Dragon over 10 times and I still love it. Best DreamWorks movie.
. . . this movie is probably the best Dreamworks' movie I've seen, or even the best there is so far, it has interesting plot and characters, and I think the variousity of dragons species in this movie is very inovative, unlike in other movies where they all look alike. . . I just love it! :))
I have seen this movie so many times but I want to see it again. It is even more exiting to know that there are episodes and they are gonna launch a 2nd movie. I am also shocked to see "How to Train your Dragon" (My only favorite movie) is top rated! Thanks to all the people who have done a great job in making this movie!
