21 Five Finger Death Punch Five Finger Death Punch Five Finger Death Punch is an American heavy metal band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Formed in 2005, the band's name is derived from a fictional martial arts maneuver in the 2003 film Kill Bill.

Ivan Moody is under rated. This band has talent at all positions, amazing talent... The fact that their material continues to get better and better with each album should prove their worth of a top 5 spot for artists currently producing music. This list is hilarious because its more over voted than American Idol. Love what you love, but just keep fk'n rocking'!

You got to be kidding me. Five Finger Death Punch can't be the 45th best heavy metal band. 5FDP should join the top tens as well as Godsmack, Bullet For My Valentine, Lamb of God, SOiL, and also Drowning Pool, too.

How has this band not been added yet? Definitely in my top 3!
Listen to their new album American Capitalist, its EPIC!

These guys are the best metal band, hands down, no argument can change that. EAT IT, METAL WANNABES!

22 Death Death Death was an American Death Metal band formed in 1983 by Chuck Schuldiner. Death is considered to be one of the most influential bands in heavy metal and a pioneering force in death metal. its debut album, Scream Bloody Gore, has been widely regarded as the first death metal record, while the band's ...read more.

Because Chuck reinvented metal after it had already been reinvented loads of times before. Death took thrash metal to new limits. It became the genre we now know as 'Death Metal' which is named after them for obvious reasons. Undoubtedly the best death metal band ever and arguably the best thrash metal band ever as well. They were very influential in metal and completely under-rated because of sell outs like Metallica.

The most famous death metal band that has sold millions of records around the world. Chuck Schuldiner may be one of the greatest guitarists ever to have lived.

So Death's success is now determined by Metallica? If Metallica are sell outs then it would logically make them an easier target to dethrone would it not? Also, Death Metal is a sub genre of Thrash. Also, Possessed are the first Death Metal band. They're not of the calibre of Death, but Seven Churches is the first Death Metal album.

The best Death Metal band ever, and Chuck Schuldiner was the absolute Godfather of this genre, RIP Chuck.

23 Godsmack Godsmack Godsmack is an American rock band from Lawrence, Massachusetts, formed in 1995. The band is composed of founder, frontman and songwriter Sully Erna, guitarist Tony Rombola, bassist Robbie Merrill, and drummer Shannon Larkin.

Godsmack should belong in the Top Tens list due to Sully Erna's vocals.
Listen to Awake, I Stand Alone, Whatever, Voodoo and Crying Like a Bitch. Their songs are very aggressive

They are literally named after an Alice In Chains song, but picked up guitars because of Metallica. The title-track to their album Awake is one of the greatest Metallica Black album tributes of all time. It is a barnstorming track from a barnstorming album.

I absolutely love this band, its just a shame that the older bands get voted to the top of these lists. I understand that Metallica is popular because they've been around for so long, but I honestly think that 60% of the other are better

One of the best bands in my opinion. Great musicians with great songs. It's almost impossible to find a bad Godsmack song.

24 Blind Guardian Blind Guardian Blind Guardian is a German power metal band formed in the mid-1980s in West Germany. They are often credited as one of the seminal and most influential bands in the power metal and speed metal subgenres. Heavily influenced by Queen, they use the technique of overdubbing. They also incorporate large ...read more.

Blind Guardian is Underrated the only reason why this band isn't on top is becuase people are very closed minded.
Blind Guardian is an ultimate combination of Fantasy and Epic Power Metal
Andre Olbrich is probably one of the best Guitarists of the Eighties and Nineties. Metallica, Iron Maiden, Avenge Sevenfold and all the other bands on top of them (Except: Saxon, Black Sabbath, Dio, Iced Earth. ) have had at least ONE record I didn't like.

They are the only metal band I know that has been improving over time - every next album is better than the previous one. Altogether 10 albums and almost 30 years of exemplary musicianship. I just listened to their 2015 album and I have nothing but admiration for them! Similarly to other people, I'm also beginning to think that Blind Guardian are comparable to Maiden and Priest in terms of quality and consistency. And seeing them at #46 breaks my heart. - Metal_Treasure

Blind Guardian is such an underrated band. Their mythical songs are perfect for playing Skyrim! Try it. It's the best!

Ultimate underrated band. Hansi is such a great vocalist, yet BG continues to remain a largely unknown band.

25 Helloween Helloween Helloween is a German power metal band founded in 1984 in Hamburg, Northern Germany. The band is a pioneering force in the power metal genre, and their second and third studio albums, Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part I and Part II, are considered masterpieces of the genre.

Great band! Got ever album and not one is disappointing. I find it a shame that clear talent from these guys can be put so far below so many bands that just strut random chords and bash their instruments while growling and snorting like pigs.

Outstanding in every single way. One cannot simply compare Helloween to any other band, simply the best band ever.

Really great band and the band that pretty much started power metal, definitely deserves to be at least top 15 if not top 10. list to all their albums and you will understand

The track "Find my freedom" is probably the finest power-metal I have heard

26 Alice Cooper Alice Cooper Alice Cooper was an American rock band formed in Phoenix, Arizona in 1964. The band consisted of lead singer Vince Furnier, Glen Buxton, Michael Bruce, Dennis Dunaway, and Neal Smith.

Brought theatrics into rock. -

A true innovator musically as well as theatrically. What's more metal than a songs about dead babies, insanity, demons and the dentist drilling into your gums?

What the hell? Alice Cooper should be in the top ten.

A Clockwork Orange? Shock Rock!

Amazing power metal from Germany

Edguy seems to be the closest band to iron maiden

28 Tool Tool Tool is an American progressive metal/alternative metal band, that was formed in 1990. ...read more.

Tool, at 24? Seriously? I'd think probably more in the range of a whole number somewhere between 0 and 2.

Tool are/were great, but they haven't done anything in a decade, and A Perfect Circle have released one song in a decade. Rumours aside, it's debatable whether they even exist anymore. I suspect Maynard has been the vocalist for Slipknot or Kiss for over a decade, because Slipknot or Kiss fans wouldn't be able to tell. Do Slipknot even exist anymore?

Tool has probably the most complex lyrics and song meanings of any modern hard rock/metal band. They based the song "Lateralus" on a complex trigonometric spiral pattern known as the "Fibonacci Sequence". These guys are crazy.

These guys are beyond anything I've heard. They are on another plane altogether. They draw you in, body and soul!

29 Rainbow

This band was at it's best when Ronnie James Dio was in the band and it sold the most records with him on vocals, after they got rid of Ronnie they started declining.

The expression "got rid of Ronnie" isn't correct. Nobody wanted to get rid of him. - Metal_Treasure

Rainbow so low? Idiots!

They should be higher than Metallica.

Richie Blackmore got rid of anyone who was in his bands. He was a borderline personality whose ego outweighed his guitar talent, and his guitar talent was huge.

Power metal bands should learn from Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow first.

30 Stratovarius Stratovarius Stratovarius is a Finnish power metal band that formed in 1984. Since their formation, they have released 16 studio albums, 4 DVD and 3 live albums.

Great band, vocalist has a very powerful voice. They formed in 1984 and has been through numerous line up changes, one of the best power metal bands in Finland, and they have a lot of good songs too.

Stratovarius is honestly one of the greatest bands ever and Timo's voice is right up there with Dickinson, Dio and Halford

31 Killswitch Engage Killswitch Engage Killswitch Engage is an American metalcore band from Westfield, Massachusetts, formed in 1999 after the disbanding of Overcast and Aftershock.

In this moment Bullet for my valentine and avenged sevenfold ahead of killswitch really wow? Disagree

This band is what got me into metal. I love it!

Got to be higher than 25, should be top 10.

32 Dying Fetus Dying Fetus Dying Fetus is an American death metal band originally from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Formed in 1991, the group is known for their consistently hook-laden song structures, characterized by blast beats, complex riffing, slam riffs and heavy breakdowns.

If you can get past the juvenile name this is probably one of the best death metal bands out there right now. They are halfway between brutal and tech death.

Nice name douchebags very original and not at all stupid and creepy

The best! Well not really in my opinion. while they are amazing. they arnet my favorite DM band. that metal goes to bolt thrower. but dying fetus has never put out one bad album and john and seans vocals are amazing. this band never disappoints and is very talented and hard working. give these guys a great thumbs up!

Korn should at least be in top ten this band started a new type of metal munky and heads guitar is toned down 7 strings of mayhem and fieldys slap bass is recognizable from first record till now they change their sound every album which I like its just people keep wanting them to sound like the first two records again I personally don't iwant them to continue making different music with the korn feel and just to finish korn should be top ten by how amazing jonathan davis's vocals are from screaming to clean he's the man

Raised around this band and few others. I'm very bias but they should be at very very least, in top 20. Higher than System of a Down and slipknot who is no longer a band. They have out lived most of the bands that they grow up with, they even out lived disturbed. They don't just try to root down in the 90's they try to evolve and play with new music and see what they can do with it.

Follow the leader itself made this band a top 10

Korn should be number one!

34 Motley Crue Motley Crue Mötley Crüe was an American metal band formed in Los Angeles, California on January 17, 1981. The group was founded by bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee, lead vocalist Vince Neil and lead guitarist Mick Mars.

Great artist, could be good for motley crue that they was smoking 5 cigarettes per. Day and max 2 drinks during the weekend, in order to preserve health and the clear singing voice

Motley crue are living legends, with fans across the world, they should try to make a European tour, for example to beatiful Denmark

They're men dressed like drag queens, playing glam metal for groupies who look almost as pretty as they do. Next fad please.

Mötley crue were the supreme heavy metal hard rock band in the eighties, the most popular and their first 2 albums are represents the best of the 80's in heavy metal.

Mudvayne is a very nice band. I don't know why mudvayne are in this place? Damn it! In my opinion them should be inside the top 10

Just a super awesome band!

Definitely the best of symphonic metal if not "heavy" metal.

Greatest band of all time! They sound like heaven!

Awesome melodic symphonic metal.

37 Ozzy Osbourne

Over all, great band. It was a great milestone for all of heavy metal. Should defiantly be higher up on this list.

38 Children of Bodom Children of Bodom Children Of Bodom is a melodic death metal band from Espoo, Finland. Formed in 1993, the group currently consists of Alexi Laiho, Janne Wirman, Henkka Seppälä, Jaska Raatikainen and Daniel Freyberg.

Bodom at no.39? You gotta be kidding me! They are my favorite band and Alexi Laiho is most talented guitarist now. Just look at his solos laugh out loud. Hate Crew till I die! Looking forward to their new album in 2013, Halo of Blood. :D

!.. Avenged sevenfold in 4!... Are they even metal!... Kill myself!... I don't wanna live in this world!... COB should be in top 5. Best Melodic death metal band of all time... No one can cross them!...
Hail children of bodom!... Hail alexi laiho
From Bangladesh with love & respect

This band is epic! Good amazing riffs solo with melody! If you never heard a song of Children Of Bodom you should at least listen to two or three good albums and songs about them, listen to Something Wild, Hatebreeder, Follow The Reaper, Hate Crew Deathroll, Are You Dead Yet? And Halo Of Blood!. Those are the albums you should listen on one of those! And they are from Finland!

Are you kidding me? COB at 39. damn. It should be in top 10. It's the best Melodic Death Metal out there. you should listen to these before voting-- Every Time I Die, Hate Train, Follow The Reaper, Aces High, Northern Comfort, Punch Me I Bleed.

39 Dream Theater Dream Theater Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band. The band was formed in 1985 under the name of "Majesty", but had to change its name to Dream Theater later. ...read more.

Metallica, Iron Maiden and Slayer are good. GOOD not FANTASTIC or AWESOME. But Dream Theater R.If you want something heavy listen to the "Train of Thought" or "Awake" albums. "Images and Words" is not good enough when it comes to heaviness (still fantastic though). DT deserves to be at least at #20! Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Twisted Sister are rock/hard rock and not HEAVY METAL. At least Dream Theater is metal and not some ridiculous rock-band. Best band ever.

They are the gods or prog metal. Their songs are awesome
How is bon jovi metal? Or seether? Or ac dc? Or skillet? Idiots who vote for that kind of bands should read up on them and the genres that they play.

51? Seriously? These guys are the real deal, they're the gods of metal. Not even Maiden deserves to be compared to the awesomeness of the one and only, Dream Theater.

How aren't they on the top 5?!?! - dimebagd44

40 Sepultura Sepultura Sepultura is a Brazilian heavy metal band from Belo Horizonte. Their first album, Morbid Visions presented a proto-black metal sound with Wagner Lamounier of Sarcófago. Sepultura's sound varies by the album, from thrash metal, groove metal, and even death metal.

Sepultara used to be a great band. Now, with their new vocalist they aren't that great. But just listen to their older stuff like Arise and Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation. Old school death/thrash classics. Just for the first few albums they should be much higher on the list. But, whoever said they are a "rising up band" doesn't know what they're talking about. Not trying to be rude to whoever said that, but, before you talk about a band (positively or negatively) it's always best to know the facts about them.

Used to be great, in my opinion they still great, well, the new vocalist wasn't the best bet for a trash metal band like Sepultura (Grave in english), but he still cope with the band.
And yeah, the albuns from original formation are simply great and good classics.

They were great, just like Metallica were great, but both have now been not great for twice as long as they were great. Great?

THEY ARE NOT HEAVY METAL... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? ALTHOUGH THIS FACT, THEY ARE, OR WERE, ONE OF THE GREATEST IN THEY'RE STYLE EVER, PERIOD.
