61 Soilwork Soilwork Soilwork is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Helsingborg. They are signed to Nuclear Blast. Formed in late 1995 by Björn Strid and Peter Wichers, originally under the name Inferior Breed, the band changed their name in late 1996 to Soilwork.

I'm surprised that one of the biggest and most influential metal bands isn't on here

62 Blue Cheer Blue Cheer Blue Cheer was an American rock band that initially performed and recorded in the late 1960s and early 1970s and was sporadically active until 2009. Based in San Francisco, Blue Cheer played in a psychedelic blues rock style, and are also credited as being some of the earliest pioneers of heavy metal, ...read more.

63 Asking Alexandria Asking Alexandria Asking Alexandria are an English metalcore band from York, North Yorkshire formed initially in 2008 by lead guitarist Ben Bruce along with former lead singer Danny Worsnop, bassist Joe Lancaster, keyboardist and synth player Ryan Binns, and current members drummer James Cassells and rhythm guitarist ...read more.

Asking Alexandria is not the best band ever but they deserve a better score than this. They are one of the hardest working bands out there. Far more mature and talented than a bunch of all the new bands out there. Go check out there music, you won't be disappointed.

Killer band. AA are a very young band with all the band members being no older than 25. Very honest music with some elements of rock & roll and metalcore. After a few listens their songs begin to grow on you- very catchy groves and riffs.

The lyrics to the track Creature explain everything about Andy Worsnop's departure you need to know. That track is excellent by the way.

I like this band it should be at least 30 it higher

64 Sepultura Sepultura Sepultura is a Brazilian heavy metal band from Belo Horizonte. Their first album, Morbid Visions presented a proto-black metal sound with Wagner Lamounier of Sarcófago. Sepultura's sound varies by the album, from thrash metal, groove metal, and even death metal.

Sepultara used to be a great band. Now, with their new vocalist they aren't that great. But just listen to their older stuff like Arise and Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation. Old school death/thrash classics. Just for the first few albums they should be much higher on the list. But, whoever said they are a "rising up band" doesn't know what they're talking about. Not trying to be rude to whoever said that, but, before you talk about a band (positively or negatively) it's always best to know the facts about them.

Used to be great, in my opinion they still great, well, the new vocalist wasn't the best bet for a trash metal band like Sepultura (Grave in english), but he still cope with the band.
And yeah, the albuns from original formation are simply great and good classics.

They were great, just like Metallica were great, but both have now been not great for twice as long as they were great. Great?

THEY ARE NOT HEAVY METAL... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? ALTHOUGH THIS FACT, THEY ARE, OR WERE, ONE OF THE GREATEST IN THEY'RE STYLE EVER, PERIOD.

65 Seether Seether Seether are a South African hard rock band founded in May 1999 in Pretoria, South Africa. The band originally performed under the name Saron Gas until 2002, when they adopted the Seether name.

HELL YEAH! Love they're songs, Fake It and Broken, Seether is consistently putting out great content.

Not to heavy but definitely good enough to be on your top 10

To the top with this one! I love bad company, the bleeding and generation dead the most!

Best death metal should be at no.3

67 Annihilator Annihilator Annihilator is a Canadian thrash metal band founded in 1984 by vocalist, guitarist, bassist, songwriter, engineer, producer, mixer and mastering engineer Jeff Waters and former vocalist John Bates.

I'm surprised Annihilator is so low on the list, They've made 12 records, none of them were bad, even if some of them were just decent at best, there is no way to say any of their albums are bad. Plus, Jeff Waters is one of the best, if not the best guitar player still alive

Voting for them because Maiden is already first - Kinaivan

Nobody has voted for annihilator? Just listen to Alison Hell from the "Alice In Helll" album

...and 'Feast', and 'Annihilator', and their latest. Jeff Waters makes Eddie Van Halen look tame.

68 Sabaton Sabaton Sabaton is a power metal band from Falun, Sweden formed in 1999. The band's main lyrical themes are based on war and historical battles.

Sorry I know my english isn't the best but Sabaton behind bands who never played one metal riff in their life, this can't be real. They've got epic lyrics and riffs. This must be said.

This band is the best their music is just awesome and the singer: Joakim Broden is really really good

Epic music epic lyrics best band hands down

Best band ever

69 Meshuggah Meshuggah Meshuggah is a Swedish progressive metal band from Umeå, formed in 1987. They are credited with crafting the Djent subgenre. Meshuggah's line-up consists of founding members vocalist Jens Kidman and lead guitarist Fredrik Thordendal, drummer Tomas Haake, who joined in 1990, rhythm guitarist Mårten ...read more.

Because they don't move people emotionally, that's why they're not the best. Yes, they are technical as hell, but apart from that what? Bullet For My Valentine's Matt Tuck can have a crowd eating out the palm of his hand while singing a song about fighting with his partner, but what's Meshuggah's answer to that? The same thing plagues many metal bands, because it takes talent not to be corny whilst doing it. TesseracT took the best of Meshuggah's algorithms and created passionate, progressive albums of their own.

It really saddens me to see all these alternative and nu metal bands that are higher on this list than meshuggah. Meshuggah has honed there craft over the years and they blow me away every time I listen to them. I'm just glad Tool got a reasonable place

How is this band ranked so low. They are a difficult band to grasp at first ( if your close minded) This band screams talent extremly complex poly rythms, amazing catchy groovy riffs, very deep meaning behind all their songs. And fredrik thordendal can pull off some of the most complex solos in the industry. They don't showcase their individual talents excessively within the band. I dare anyone to listen to the Obzen or Nothing album start to finish you will be hooked. And if not you're probably not very open minded. Meshuggah for the win!

It really makes me lose hope for humanity knowing that Meshuggah, one of the best Heavy metal bands of all time, is currently #50 on this list. Such a shame, especially because not only is their music very technical and experimental; it's heavy too! So for those nerds who say "Nu metal is the best", take a look at Meshuggah, and then say that. I guarantee that you'll change your mind. If not, you suck.

71 Kiss Kiss Kiss is an American hard rock band formed in New York City in January 1973 by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and the band's original manager, Lew Linet.

KISS is my favourite band ever! Rock on and long live the gods of shock rock-KISS!

Parasite, almost human, she, Going' blind, war machine, exciter, danger, god of thunder, strange ways, not for the innocent, hate, unholy if you think these guys ain't Metal you ain't heard them properly

These guys make me smile, and there songs are so fun and enjoyable. Great band.

I prefer my women in make-up and the sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll lifestyle, not my male heroes.

Best Hard rock band. Magical, elegant, powerful, hard rocking. It's just great, the pure thing

73 Arcturus
74 Mercyful Fate Mercyful Fate Mercyful Fate was a Danish heavy metal band from Copenhagen, formed in 1981 by vocalist King Diamond and guitarist Hank Shermann.

King Diamond singing in a crazy heavy band with awesome riffs. After breaking up in the early 80's with two amazing albums to their credit, came back in the 90's to continue with 5 more awesome albums.

Yes, I love their early eps and first two albums. There's never been a more theatrical satanist metaller than King Diamond.

75 Volbeat Volbeat Volbeat are a Danish metal band which was formed in Copenhagen. They play a fusion of rock and roll, heavy metal and rockabilly.

Volbeat is the number one band on the planet right now July 2013

This is one of the best bands there is ever made - Schulm3

Number one metal band of 2001 to so far...

How is this ranked way down here? Give it a listen, I my opinion they are much better than disturbed or slipknot! Up there with A7X!

76 Venom Venom Venom are an English extreme metal band formed in 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Coming to prominence towards the end of the new wave of British heavy metal, Venom's first two albums—Welcome to Hell and Black Metal—are considered a major influence on thrash metal and extreme metal in general.

Lol. Everyone I know rates them highly. As do I. Across infernal wastelands, many miles of sunburnt hell...

This band is underrated

They created black metal

Where is Type O Negative!

77 Neurosis Neurosis Neurosis is a post-metal band, based in Oakland, California. They formed in 1985 as a hardcore punk band, and their sound progressed towards a doom metal style that also included influences from dark ambient and industrial music as well as incorporating elements of folk music.
78 AC/DC AC/DC AC/DC are a Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until Malcolm's illness and departure in 2014. You have to be kidding! AC/DC is one of the best metal bands ever. It has one of the greatest guitar rest ever: Angus Young. Best classic songs: whole lota Rosie, high way to hell, back in black, the razors edge... At least should be In the top five after iron maiden, Judas Priest and Metallica... If you like metal you like AC/DC!

A lot of people find AC/DC's vocals annoying, and the guitarists are nothing special. They are no better than your average metal band.

Lol! How can you even contemplate AC/DC - one of the greatest hard rock acts in history - are metal? Even worse, no metal band worth their salt are even influenced by them in any way, shape or form? Are you the individual who said 'Metallica aren't heavy, they're thrash? '

I agree. Heard the other day that the highest selling hard rock album of all time is Back in Black. 23. I don't think so. They are like The Rolling Stones of Heavy Metal. Along with AeroSmith

Simple the BEST!

79 Bolt Thrower Bolt Thrower Bolt Thrower are a British death metal band from Coventry, England. They formed in 1986 and released their first album with Vinyl Solution in 1988. The band then shifted to a new record label, Earache Records, soon becoming one of the best selling bands on that label.

See Bolt-Thrower live and you will understand. Bolt-Thrower is the heaviest band in existence. Once you see them you will be changed.

These guys are still going? My goodness. They were crushing back in the day.

80 Skid Row Skid Row Skid Row is an American heavy metal band, formed in 1986 in Toms River, New Jersey. They were very successful in the late 1980s and early 1990s, with their first two albums certified multi-platinum.

One of the best Heavy Metal bands of all time... They are really under rated.. But man are they awesome! And some bands here are not even Heavy Metal bands but are way ahead in the list.. Are you kidding me? Led Zeppelin? Zeppelin's a rock band.. And the last time I checked Megadeth and Metallica are still playing METAL not Heavy Metal...

Best Heavy Metal Bands are JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN & SKID ROW

Nobody.. And I mean nobody, is better than these 3 in Heavy Metal.
My favorite is SKID ROW though!

This band is incredible, I think they're under rated.. Sebastian Bach has got to have on of the best metal/rock voices of all time.

Top ten band!

Subhuman Race and Slave to the Grind still last today.

Old formation is respectable as top 20
