Top 10 Best "I Miss You" Songs

The Top Ten
1 When You're Gone - Avril Lavigne

I just started listening to this song. My best friend moved away and I feel like just about everyone that I used to talk to doesn't want to talk to me, and I feel lonely at school a lot. I am starting to think they don't want to talk to me because they want to be close to her. She was like a sister to me and is like the outgoing side to me when I'm quiet, and always knew how to cheer me up. Now I barely have time to talk to her since I have a lot of homework.

I'm in a long-distance relationship with someone whom I fell for hard, just like this song insinuates. It describes our relationship perfectly. Won't see him for another 4 months.

2 Always - Bon Jovi

I choked up a little bit. What a great song!

I love this song because I miss my best friend, and this song makes me feel good.

3 Wake Me Up When September Ends - Green Day

This song reminds me of when I lost my brother. His death date and birth date are within a month of each other, 25 years apart. Even after ten years, this time of year throws me back into the grieving process with anger and depression. Then, after his birth date, I gain acceptance again that he's really gone.

My mom died three years ago. I always play this when I think of her.

4 Far Away - Nickelback

This song is so heartwarming. It is beautiful. It means exactly what it should, with lines like, "I miss you," "I love you," and "I wanted you to stay." It's perfect for my school project about a boy whose parents die. So amazing.

I had never heard this song before, and I was in one of those "I miss you so much and I want you back" kind of moods. Although it made me sad, it totally hit the spot. Thanks so much!

My best friend moved across the country unexpectedly without saying goodbye 983 days ago. I think this song would be a great way to tell her that I miss her.

5 Wish You Were Here - Avril Lavigne

Absolutely the best song by far when it comes to missing someone. It doesn't only talk about your ex or your lover. It discusses how lonely you can be without someone really special, whether that be your best friend or your ex, and how much you want them to be right beside you!

My best friend and I like to sing this song because my ex broke up with me, then a month later hers broke up with her. I still miss him so much, though, and it's been 3 months.

Yeah. This song, I really wish they were here.

6 Who Knew - Pink

This is one of the most romantic songs I've heard. I love this song. It's very beautiful to listen to. It's about a love relationship that a person remembers and won't forget the person she was in love with. It was a long relationship, and she defended the person she was in love with, as illustrated by this quote: "I stand up and punch them out."

She wanted to be with the person forever, but they broke up. The lyrics "That last kiss I'll cherish until we meet again" poignantly express her feelings. She misses that person.

Really sweet - what makes it different from other "I miss you" songs is that it's about a friend who died, not an ending relationship. When it comes to death, you know it's over for good. Listen closely to the lyrics and look it up - it's about P!nk's friends who died from drugs. Outstanding song. One of my favorites by her.

7 Where'd You Go - Fort Minor

Love the rhymes with powerful lyrics that just burst me into tears! The catchy and emotional refrain that says "Where'd you go? I miss you so" is SO GOOD.

Describes the relationship between me and my dad perfectly. Love it.

I just love this song. Totally love it.

8 Missing You - Steve Perry

Powerful voice. Steve Perry is the master of love songs.

That first "whoa" he sings just sends chills down my spine! Such a beautiful voice!

9 I Miss You - Blink 182

This song is honestly by far the best "missing you" song I've heard of. It beautifully describes how awful it is to not have that specific special person by your side, and it's not begging for the lover or the special someone to come back into their life. Although it says, "Will you come home and stop this pain tonight?", it's not very whiny. Afterwards, they say, "Don't waste your time on me, you're already the voice inside my head, I miss you." which, in my perspective, means that the person missing the other person has been affected by their disappearance very badly. They don't even need the other person to be there. This person is already haunted by their presence that isn't even with them at the moment. It haunts them so deeply, and although they know they miss them, they simply state they're missing them and wish things didn't end the way they did. This song should honestly be ranked first, but I'm really happy it was ranked overall in the top ten. Lovely, perfect, beautiful song.

10 Right Now - Akon
The Contenders
11 Here Without You - 3 Doors Down

I love this song. It really describes how I feel when I am missing someone who is special to me. It makes me cry sometimes. This is the first song that I have listened to about missing someone that has hit so close to home and perfectly described how I felt.

It still makes me cry every time and makes me think of my ex. It makes me wish that we hadn't ended it. I still think about him sometimes. For anyone who feels lonely and has lost someone, I recommend this song. It's so sad if you just listen to it.

12 Still Loving You - Scorpions

Great song. Makes me think of someone in my life (a man) and makes me want to cry.

This song is so beautiful it is painful.

Makes me cry missing the man I hurt.

13 Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

What a stunning song, simply can't stop listening to it. Every single aspect of a classic flows with this song, all the instruments mix and join to form the most amazing song ever!

I'm surprised this one isn't in the top ten. This song says it all: I wish you were here. It's one of the best songs Pink Floyd has put out. A classic that sums up the feeling of missing someone very much.

Come on! Why isn't this higher? Great song with amazing lyrics and instrumental work by the great Pink Floyd. Also, it really relates to this list.

14 Hey There Delilah - Plain White T's

This song rocks! It makes missing someone seem so very conquerable. I wish there were more songs that had this amount of thought put into them. It makes the person listening really understand the emotion behind the lyrics.

A couple of years ago, I heard the actual Delilah on the radio discussing a topic totally unrelated to the song (she's a scientist or something), and the host asked her about the song. She didn't say much other than the relationship didn't last. It broke my heart...

Takes me back to my first heartbreak. The background music matches with the lyrics perfectly. I've always loved this song!

15 I Miss You - Miley Cyrus

This song helps a lot. I relate to this song way too much. My grandma passed away and I went into a depression, staying away from everyone. It was like a hole was created in my heart. But for me, music mends the soul, and that's what this song does.

My best friend died in a car crash while I was there. This song reminds me of her. I miss her.

This song will make everyone cry.

16 What Hurts the Most - Rascal Flatts

There is just so much emotion in this song. It can explain so many situations, from death to relationships that just had wrong timing. It's for the people that you're going to miss for the rest of your life and there's nothing you can do about it.

This song reminds me of a guy I was seeing for a while. He told me he was in love with me but later ended up two-timing me. I agree, this song has made me cry almost more than any other song. Just writing this is making me teary-eyed.

This is one of those songs that, when you think about a person you love leaving your world by death or by leaving your relationship, you know that their love will still be with you.

17 Talking to the Moon - Bruno Mars

This song's so good! I moved country almost a year ago and I'm still trying to fit in, and I still miss my other friends. This song reminds me of how close they actually are.

Great song. Reminds me of my girl that passed away a year ago. Hope you're up there looking down on me.

Epic song. Can't stop listening to it while thinking about my girl who had to move out of town. Hope you're missing me too.

18 Last Kiss - Taylor Swift

There is no song that describes the profound darkness of missing everything about someone as well as this one does. "I'll watch your life in pictures like I used to watch you sleep, and I feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe. I keep up with our old friends just to ask them how you are. I hope it's nice where you are. And I hope the sun shines, and it's a beautiful day, and something reminds you, you wished you had stayed." Tears every time.

It's so true. Your last kiss is so unexpected. You don't think, "This is it, we're going to break up tomorrow," or next week, or whatever. Also, I know EVERY GIRL has taken her boyfriend's hoodie, sat on the floor, and bawled. I still do for my first love. Then you try to make them miss you, even though they do, but they deny it. This song is my breakup go-to.

19 Lovers - Jackie Evancho

"Your voice still echoes... In my heart."

20 Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. Love is never happy when others do wrong, but it is always happy with the truth. Love never gives up on people. It never stops trusting, never loses hope, and never quits.

The song about being in a toxic relationship but not being able to let go.

21 The One that Got Away - Katy Perry

This song, on acoustic, is being played on repeat because I miss the one who got away, and this song says that best.

This brings back memories of when I was just starting out as a senior in high school. I was 17, and he was 22. He left me for personal reasons, but it wasn't a bad ending. Looking back, I realize how young and naive I was. This song has both bitter and happy memories for me. It still means a lot to me. But hey, that's life.

The song has such a good meaning to it. The title really catches the eye and draws you in. I would suggest the acoustic version, as it's slower and suits the song better for someone looking for more of an emotional feel.

22 I Don't Want to Miss a Thing - Aerosmith

The first time I listened to this song, I developed goosebumps and it reminded me of my girlfriend I left behind in search of greener pastures.

23 Need You Now - Lady Antebellum

I love this song. It means a lot to me. I discovered this song just after my ex broke up with me. I still love him, and I always think of him. I went through bad times when I started drinking a little, so this song always reminds me of that. I still love this song, but yeah, I don't drink anymore!

24 My Love, My Life - ABBA

It really tells a story. So emotional and paints the picture.

25 Nobody Knows - Kevin Sharp
