The Top Ten Romance Novels of All Time

1 Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

One of my all time favorites. Think I'm still in love a little with Jamie after all this time. Definitely a must read!

Stick with this book, it starts out slow but you will be rewarded with Characters you will love at the end of the day. Also surprises, with most romance you can see where it is headed, Diana Gabaldon has an amazing ability to create new and exciting plots that will keep you thinking

Love this novel... I bought the first one and them continue on reading the entire series... Can't wait for the next book.. Definitely worth reading

The plot is great, characters are great, every F-U-C-K-I-N-G thing is great!

2 Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
3 The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Will touch your heart and your soul like no book ever has

A huge salute to Sir Green!

4 Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

The best ever. Really touching... A story that you can never forget.

This is euthanasia disguised as a love story. Bull book by bull author, not at all romantic, for bull readers.

Never read a more emotionally enthralling book before!

Number one for me. The best romantic love story.

5 Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott
6 To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
7 The Bride by Julie Garwood

Delightfully romantic! It makes you laugh out loud. I am in love with Garwood's characters!

My favorite romance ever! Have read it at least six times. Makes me smile every time.

The bride is a beautiful book. All of Garwood's books rock!

Love Julie Garwood. Wonderful romance. Lots of fun to read.

8 Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen
9 Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

I have read this at least 20 times and watched various T.V. and movie versions. It is proof that romance does not need to be out of control erotic to hold your interest.

I've read this book at least 6 times. I think all the other books listed
Here, have a base in this book. Certainly Jane lived in a time where she
Herself didn't have the advantage these great authors did in reading other
Great works. A genius in character behavior and romance.

The first romantic novel, which introduced me to the world of romantic novels and made me realise that how beautiful this world is...I really have a great deal of appreciation for Jane Austen for such great work.

I honestly love this book. It's a deep book. Deeper than books now a days. You have to read this book slowly and understand to maximise your enjoyment.

10 The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

Beautiful read! The movie is one of my personal favourites!

The Contenders

11 Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Devereaux

I was about 17 when I first read this book... I am 37 now. Have read SO many novels since then, but few even come close to comparing to this one, can't wait to share it with my daughter in a few years :)!

I think it's the best romance book I EVER read next to paradise by judith mcnaught... I couldn't stop thinking about colin and my tears were preety unstoppable in many places... Trust me it's a must have to read book for all the romance lovers out there... And I am judging from the hundreds of seventy two romance novels I have read.. I can't believe still thinking about the book makes my heart contract..

My all time favorite. This story evoked every emotion out of me and I have never read another book quite like this.

I was literally sobbing at the conclusion of this novel. It touch something so deep within my pysche that to this day, I both abhor and exalt the idea of a soulmate. I have never read it since, but truly cherish the memory of reading it, as it is one of the top three greatest romantic novels of all time.

12 It Had to Be You by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

One of my all time favorites! I absolutely love Phoebe! It had to be you is the first in the Chicago Stars series which I have also loved do far!

There is boobs on the cover

I wasn't expecting to, but it was a surprise how much I love the novel and connected series!

What a disgustin cover yuckyy!
Publishers ru mad"""'wev got better pics for a cover in d world """"

13 Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
14 A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

I was expecting this to be a lot lower for some reason, I guess because I don't hear too many people talk about it - but I'm pleased it is actually in the top 10, where it deserves to be. It truly is the most beautiful, heart-wrenching romance story I've ever read. If you want an empowering read of pure, innocent love, then I highly recommend this one. The movie is just as good.

I do not understand his books and all the sad endings!

Awesome...was in tears when I completed the book

This book's pages will become wet with your tears! Truly a masterpiece. "I believe miracles can happen." This book itself is one!

15 Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase

Best romance novel ever - and I have read tonnes but nothing has ever come near to this wonderful book. It is a modern take on the beauty and the beast story where the hero due to his troubled past thinks that no one is capable of loving him. And then comes our fiesty heroine who turns the world upside down for him. A must read!

Loved this book! Kept me captivated from the beginning to end. It never got boring and it just kept getting better with each page! As soon as I finished it, I read it again!

Yes, best romance ever! The characters, dialogue and story make you want to follow them anywhere! Test of time and it is still a romance among romance!

16 Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

Lovely story ever.. Thanks Stephenie

Intriguing... It will take you in a different world where you may get lost and never want to return back!

17 The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes
18 Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale

I have read over 10,0000 books and this is bar far still my number one without a doubt never found another that touches it

This is one of the best!

19 McKenzie's Mountain by Linda Howard

Some of the first Romances I read & still the best. These are keepers and I have reread them many times among other great authors. These characters will stick with you after you read the last page...

Anything by Linda Howard is perfection, but the McKenzie ' s will stay with you long after reading any of their novels. Also the fact that they personify sexy doesn't hurt either...

One of my favourite authors and series. You can't go wrong with LH!

20 Morning Glory by LaVyrle Spencer

I have all her books. I love them. I would like to find someone who writes just like her. I read a lot,but can't find books as good as her books.

I love anything LaVyrle wrote, but Morning Gloria and Twice Loved are my favorites.

I really liked this story, authentic period writing, and very powerful emotional scenes'

Best book by LaVyrle Spencer by far is Bitter sweet and Family blessings. And don t forget November of the heart. All of the lovely...

21 Dream Man by Linda Howard

Great novel and sadly very realistic on real crime events.

22 Nobody's Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Das ist gut

23 A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught

A Kingdom of Dreams is a wonderful book. I wish Judith McNaught could write more books like this one but her old books are better than her new books.
The problem with her new books is that hero and heroine of the books hardly spend time together so they do not connect enough.

Love Judith McNaught. Kingdom of dreams is a journey. Great story and beautifully written. Read it 3 times over the years.

Another one of my all time favourite authors. I have all her books!

24 Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
25 Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

It's my favorite novel of all time, and it should be number one on this list. I appreciate the fact that Jane Eyre is not merely a romance novel. The romance is a plot device to uphold the deeper themes of feminist ideals such as autonomy, independence, morality, and self-respect. While Mr. Rochester is indeed swoon-worthy with his dark, brooding, yet charming personality, there's more to Jane's personality and life than him alone.

Best love story ever, true love, passionate. Tackles themes such as redemption, abuse. Bigamy. Loss, rejection, a work of genius by a genius

The greatest love story ever in my opinion!

One of the best novel I ever read

26 Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James

I really don't see the way people react to its name or given popularity as a 'SEX' novel or like this book is meant for people who are carving for SEX. The ultimate motive was the kind of complicated guy Christian was but how he fell in love even with all in insecurities and his controlling nature. So far, the best I've rad and amazing reading it because it kept me connected all the while.

When people think of the Fifty shades books the right away think "sex', after reading this trilogy it was the best romance I've see in such short pages. I have read all 3 books already 3 times and it has by far been the best romance I've read.

Highly sub estimated, I fell in love with the vulnerability of the main characters and, as an incurable romantic, I believe nobody can miss read this love story. But to get the full experience, you need read the full saga.
My sugestion is, immediately after you finish the last page of Fifty Shades of Gray you must start Fifty Shades Darker. You must just keep going as if the second book is just part of the first.

Love this novel the best novel I ever read

27 Dear John by Nicholas Sparks

I fell in love with John, just like Savannah ever did. The whole story is a bittersweet love story that might happen in one of us. I'll give it 4/5. It becomes my fave romance novel ever!

It's an uh-mazing book.
Definitely a must read.
I will always be in love with John.

One of my favorite from Nicholas Sparks'

An Amazing book,
Beautiful and sad!

28 The Magic of You by Johanna Lindsey

Love this whole series!

29 The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks

It's an amazing novel and truly unbelievable. I cried a lot, big times. To be truth, it has the highest place in my heart. Every single part of the story has the emotional games that could make you cry or happy or even curious what would happened next. Two thumbs up for this!

30 Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

Perhaps the most disturbing book I've ever read. Nearly all of the characters sow their own demise in such idiotic ways. Heathcliff and Catherine's romance is perhaps the most dysfunctional relationship in all of English literature, and all the other romances end just as badly. Speaking of Heathcliff, he is perhaps the most evil villain in English literature. He is just that wickedly nasty. And you might end up with this book because it's common in high schools. - Frouze

A dark tragic story of obsessive love

A nice strange love story! I have read it for five times! But I thought the end of the novel is a little... You know!

One of the most famous love stories of all time and for good reason. - rawr

31 A Fire in the Heart by Katherine Sutcliffe

I can remember reading this book... Eh 20 years ago laugh out loud! I read it from front to back without a break. Loved it! Give it a try!

32 Whitney, My Love by Judith McNaught

After all these years, I haven't found a book who can equal to the greatness of this story. The best!

Having read 100s of romance novels, nothing compares to Judith McNaught's writing. Her characters are real, and the dialogue so natural and heartfelt. Double Standards and Once And Always are a must read as well!

The book was a page turner until the end.

This book captivated me.

33 Frostbite: A Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

It is a awesome book it will take you to a world which you never knew existed

34 The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons

This is the best romance I have ever read. Love, Passion, Deceit, Betrayal, Rescue, Sorrow, Joy, Family - it has it all. Whenever I think of a romance novel to recommend this is the one that comes to mind. It is a series of three books and you will devour each and every one.

Have read this book at least 10 times along with the bridge to holy cross. Beautiful love story full of passion.

The most romantic book with the background of Russian history. Love this book.

I have read hundreds of books and this is by far the best.

35 Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell

The last hour I read this book I had tears pouring down my face. I wish I hadn't read it so I could read it again for the first time. Simply wonderful!

36 The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
37 The Sense of Honor by Ashley Kath-Bilsky

One of most beautiful historical romances

38 Rock Me Hard by Olivia Thorne

Unlike the title it is actually a funny and emotional love story which will get you addicted

It's a must read for all romance lovers out there

39 The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss

The book that got me hooked. The book I compare all others too.

This is the book that started it all for me.

My first romance opened up a whole new world!

40 Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
41 Gentle Rogue by Johanna Lindsey
42 Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas

Awesome Book... Intriguing Plot... Wonderfully written... Must read of all the above reasons. Beating one being the Hero

43 Night Whispers by Judith McNaught

Judith has a way with words; the characters live with us forever

44 Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion

A complete page turner! You would never expect what is to come.

45 I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

This is a mesmerising and romantic novel by the author of 101 Dalmatians. The story of Cassandra and her amazing family in their crumbling castle home is exhilarating!

46 Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
47 Double Standards by Judith McNaught

Love this book! The characters are so well developed and you feel each emotion. This is one of my favorite reads, it is not too long, it does not have a drawn out plot. Well done!

It's the interesting novel I have read

48 Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak
49 Satan's Son MC Romance Series by Simone Elise

I can't possibly pick just one book from the series, because all three together are the perfect combination! I first discovered Simone Elise on Wattpad before she was published and have been following her for nearly 5 years now. Her work is exciting, action packed, sexy, suspenseful, and raw. I absolutely love the characters she builds, you love them at times, and you hate them at times. Everything she writes is so human and relatable, and it is impossible not to fall in love with the series. - dilemmatonner
