The Contenders: Page 21

401 Eugene Ionesco Eugene Ionesco Eugène Ionesco, born Eugen Ionescu (26 November 1909 – 28 March 1994) was a Romanian-French playwright who wrote mostly in French, and one of the foremost figures of the French Avant-garde theatre. Beyond ridiculing the most banal situations, Ionesco's plays depict the solitude and insignificance more.
402 Jerome David Salinger
403 Rev. W Awdry
404 John Green
405 Ruskin Bond
406 John Green

He deserves so much better than this. One cannot simply describe how good he is at writing. He understands things that are understood by basically no one. His quotes brake hearts and open them to a world that can be beautiful, and sad, and amazing on so many levels. I'm sorry if I can't explain this the right way. You would have to read his books to understand.

Veronica Roth and John Green are the two best authors that I have ever read from. The way John Green (being a dude) wrote in the eyes of Hazel amazes me. It also amazed me how well he did it. The Fault In Our Stars is so amazing and I can't wait to read more of his books!

How is JOHN GREEN 54th? The man is a genius who writes beautiful stories. But the best part is that they're not just fluff. The books actually mean something. They portray a point. That makes sense and a difference.

I literally love all his books

407 Philip Pullman

Perhaps best known for the His Dark Materials trilogy. The first installment The Golden Compass caused controversy over it's supposed Anti-Catholic allegories

408 Anthony Horowitz

Outstanding author with series' Alex Rider, Power of Five and Diamond brothers

James Bond would be wanting more of this series

Best spy novel series ever

409 Christopher Paolini

He wrote the best books ever being so young! He invented many new LANGUAGES! All of the books were creative and very unexpected. I couldn't put the books down!

The Inheritance Cycle is one of my favourite series. Although there are some better books like The Hunger Games, Percy Jacksons and the Olympians, and Lord of the Rings, this series should be higher on this list, maybe number 10.

Created the alagaesia trilogy. - ozzydog12

Love the inheritance cycle

410 Dan Brown

While many may feel why Dan Brown isn't considered one of the greatest, it is necessary that people don't undermine his brilliant sense of story telling, his suspense and moreover his ability to research on topics and mildly skew them to make his piece of work into a delight for readers.

The reason why I voted this guy is based on what was the reaction of the people after he released his book, The the Vinci's Code. It was so well written that even the Vatican is concerned that it will change how Christians thinks about their own history (when most of them doesn't really care about it).

Regardless of religious persuasion this man writes fantasist stuff calling them all facts when they are proven one absurd lie after another.
Putting the ludicrous religious sensationalist conspiracy stuff to one side they are historical and artistic nonsense.
Not just not top ten, he shouldn't be in any position in the list whatsoever.

411 Stephenie Meyer

If you're an immature 12 year old child who likes mediocrity, her texts are for you. I'm not jumping on the "Let's Hate Twilight" bandwagon because I used to love Twilight. I was 11 then and now I'm 17. My tastes have matured and I read books at a higher level. What do I mean by higher level? I mean books without stupid and annoying cliches and predictable twists. If you call yourself an avid reader and you love Twilight you seriously have a problem. There are many stories that I don't find interesting, Wuthering Heights for example. I find it boring but I least its well written unlike Twilight. That's the main problem.

Only because of the twilight saga and the host

she is so awesome from being so poor then making millons in her first book - Jacko

412 Harper Lee Harper Lee Nelle Harper Lee, better known by her pen name Harper Lee, was an American novelist widely known for To Kill a Mockingbird, published in 1960. Immediately successful, it won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize and has become a classic of modern American literature.

Hunger Games? Lord of the Rings? Harry Potter? They're all okay, but they all can't hold a candle to Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. Yes, it's only one book--the best book of the last century! Is it all about quantity? Does quality not even count?

The author of the best book of the twentieth century is behind an ineligible listing, Will Shakespeare. This is a horrid, horrid list.

She's actually written two now, which is one more than Steven Tyler. Yes, Aerosmith Steven Tyler. Great singer, and according to the pathetic Top Ten voters, a better author than Harper Lee. Has anyone heard of Mitch Albom? He's written more than one book.

To kill a mockingbird?

413 Jacqueline Wilson

Jacqueline Wilson has always been my all-time favourite author. She has inspired me to be a writer myself. I always love to read her books and relate to characters such as Beauty from "Cookie", because I am shy and insecure, and I like watching nostalgic cartoons and shows sometimes. GO JACQUELINE!

How did you forget about her? She should be number 1 on this list!

Wrote so many great books I can't keep count of them

You are all right she deserves better than this

414 Anne Frank Anne Frank

There are many reasons why Anne Frank should not be at the bottom of this list. Her heartbreaking diary shows the monstrosity of Nazi Germany and the hatred they had for the Jewish people. Anne died in a concentration camp at the age of 16. Her diary is among the saddest, and most important, pieces of literature ever written.

I feel sorry for Anne Frank being at the bottom of the list. I have never heard of hear, but all books are great

Very important... should be way higher... I mean, Tom Clancy is higher, come on... this is a very important author, dealing with human love and emotions and fighting the super hated evil Nazis (I hate Nazis so much), very important.
