"At Folsom Prison" Album Review
Alpha101 Now it's time to review possibly the best and most influential live album ever recorded. Since it is a pretty long album, I won't talk too much about each song, so I apologize."Folsom Prison Blues" starts off the album perfectly, as it is known to people as one of the best, if not the best, country song. It's lyrics are some of the best-written ever, it's crisp and catchy, and it has stood the test of time, and will continue for a long time, and, hopefully, forever. This is my favorite on the album, and my favorite song by Cash.
"Dark as a Dungeon" is an okay track. What I really like about it though is Cash's interrupting of the song. I love the live version, but the song itself is mediocre.
"I Still Miss Someone" is another average track. it is enjoyable for the first listen or two, but then I just have the urge to skip it.
"Cocaine Blues" is one of my favorites on the album. One thing that I like about Cash is that he wasn't afraid to stir up some controversy within his music. The song is about a man who takes cocaine and murders his wife for cheating on him. It's another classic that will never be forgotten, and is one of Cash's best.
"25 Minutes to Go" is possibly one of the most underrated songs that I've ever heard. It's very well-written, humorous, tragic, and the wordplay by Cash is very memorable. I also love about how later in the song, time seems to speed up a little, just like in real life. This is another classic.
"Orange Blossom Special" is another skippable song. I've just never enjoyed it, though it isn't a terrible song.
"The Long Black Veil" is another tragic song, though it is lacking in some areas. Again, I love Cash's commentary in the song. Still, it is a pretty good song.
"Send a Picture of Mother" is another fantastic song by Mr. Cash. It's heart-breaking, though it's upbeat tune. This is Cash at his best, as this song easily displays.
"The Wall" took a while to grow on me, but it's slowly became one of my favorites. It's a sad song, though it is so fun to sing along to.
"Dirty Old Egg-Suckin' Dog" is another one of my favorites. It's incredibly funny, as it's almost impossible not to laugh along to. It's a very nice addition to the album, and is one of the very many highlights.
"Flushed from the Bathroom of Your Heart" has some of the most clever wordplay that I've ever heard in a song. Cash's crisp and beautiful voice also adds to the greatness of the song.
"Jackson" is a duet between Cash and June Carter, and it's easily one of the best duets that I've ever heard! it's just really likable, and there's simply not one bad thing about the song.
"Give My Love to Rose" is another great and sad song. It's chorus always brings me close to tears, and it's always kept a special place in my heart.
"I Got Stripes" also includes Carter, and is another pretty good song. It's short but sweet, and has always been one of my favorites.
"Green, Green Grass of Home" is another okay song. It's nothing special, though I do sing along to it from time to time.
"Greystone Chapel" did a simply perfect job of closing the album. It's catchy, meaningful, and is the very definition of country music. It always makes me want to listen to the album again, which I, most of the time, do.
This is my favorite live album in history. While there are two or three forgettable songs on the record, most are outstanding, and I love the comments made by Cash and the prisoners during the experience. Yes, I called this album an "experience<" because it is. It's one of the most unique albums I've ever heard, as it was recorded in a prison. This was Cash at his best, and is possibly the best album in country history.
