This Site

IronSabbathPriest Right... where to begin.

I'm not sure to be honest. The users have significantly gone down in quality. Useless posts are coming out left and right. All they need is a red circle and "gone wrong" at the end of the title and it would be a reflection of YouTube. The music madness train (started by yours truly) seems to have died down. But in its place are elemination games (I think Puga started that)?

Seriously. I don't care about the best thrash albums being voted off a post by the same four users. It's just a cheap attempt at getting comments on a post. Can we stop with the user eliminations too. We all know Therandom's gonna win.

That brings me to another point: running for admin. I'm sorry, but if you think that's a productive way of using this site then you need to find another hobby. You're grasping at air. Be it applying for big boss, or moderator, whatever. IT'S NOT HAPPENING. EVEN IF IT'S JUST A JOKE THERE'S BETTER THINGS YOU COULD BE DOING. Plus, with the possible exception of a few users, none of you know what it's actually like to program and code a website. It's bloody difficult. And even if you do know how to, it's still realistically not happening. So find something else to campaign against!

Politics. Where to bloody start. So I'm not gonna talk about it. Because there's just no reasoning with some of you.

This all stems from one problem: the community. Too many users joined for it, just so they can make posts to impress the lads. Very few actually joined to use the primary function of creating factual lists and joining in discussions with other users about topics. I'm not saying all relatively new users joined because of the community, because that's a terrible generalisation to make. I myself for example joined in 2014 and for a while was just interested in consuming the product that is the site. I sort of got pulled into the community. But even then I sort of drifted in and out of the border. Honestly I'm glad I joined when I did, because if I found this site now I'd just feel sorry for most of you. Plus I'd probably be immediately disliked by the lads for the simple crime of being a metalhead. And I don't really blame the lads for that. Because honestly the new metalhead users have nothing special in store for them on this site.

I've seen a fair bit in my time here. Believe it or not, there was once a time when I was bigger than Therandom. But it was all ok, because we were all a ride or die group. Never leaving a man behind. This site has a pretty bad pack mentality now.

So yeah... this post probably won't achieve anything and I know I haven't really been that productive to this site since 2015 so I haven't really got a leg to stand on, but I'm just letting you know what I think. If you have enjoyed be sure to subscribe and smash that motherf****** like button.

I've enjoyed. And I'm sure if you can find it, you can definitely make a good contribution to the site. I'm not running for anything anymore, but like you I'm just gonna hang around and see what I can do around here, since there's not much left anyways. - NuMetalManiak

I also agree on the new metalhead users, they like the same things over and over again while hating the same things over and over again. I feel like showing them one of my old posts (you know which one I am talking about, right). - NuMetalManiak

Rate games, Elimination games, Pop music reviews, Chart talking...

I always seem to hop on the bandwagon at the right times. Early enough before it looks like I'm looking for relevancy, but late enough where it's the main trend and I get enough comments to maintain relevancy on here. We need a new trend, and I have some ideas, but no idea how to get them on this format.

To be honest, this site has become a wasteland at this point. So many useless lists coming in. I feel like a hypocrite saying this, but it needed to be said.

Above all, good post. - ProPanda

My latest elimination game is actually a game instead of a "vote so the popular user wins" competition - Nonpointed

Agreed...Great post. - visitor

Agreed, subbed, AND liked. We should really try something new besides elimination games, voting posts, admin campaigns, etc. - visitor

My views of how it sucks are here:

To top it up, we almost always have die-hard rock and metal bragging about their music tastes and bashing others for not having similar tastes. Just look at the comments on 'Heavy Metal" on the list "Best Music Genres". They also think it's a fact that Pop and Rap are objectively bad while Rock and Metal are good no matter how much hate they get. Those people are hypocrites from the start. Not hating on you, just showing how bad your other fan-mates can be.

The newer lists are stale, just for stat paddling. They make weird comparison lists and lists like "Best Songs between Artist X and Artist Y".

Most users and visitors, no explanation, we already know ourselves.

And overall harassment/disrespect/hypocrisy/bullying. If you remember EpicJake, MsWiseGuy, and cosmo bullying mlpyes_pawpatrolno just because she likes My Little Pony when they said she should respect their opinions on the show, you have every glimpse of it in a nutshell.

But I do enjoy posts like Music Reviews, Polls, and Awarding lists. I can get some member value from them.

Thank you for this. - visitor

I'm not sure what to think of this site anymore. I've still been enjoying it mostly but I've noticed more and more things (not just users, but things about the site in general) that irk me.

For starters - The term "unique" irks me greatly. What does it mean to be unique? You have to like anything but Anime, Metal and Video Games? If so, than I fit in within two of those three criteria. So does that make me not unique then? Sure, I guess I am not a new user, and I guess that's what annoys me the most. If we're going to base these rules on what makes a user have more "uniqueness" on whether they're new, then wouldn't it be only fair IF we apply the same to users of the past? The reason these new users don't seem unique and older users do is because we had more time to get to know the older users. Saying any complex mind of a human is just a 2 dimensional character is the most absurd thing I have ever heard.

In fact if you remember when I was first around, I could technically be classified (by this so called set of criteria made) as bland as a user could get (I was also a cringy Linkin Park fanboy too). I really didn't start being more of myself and enjoying this site more often, until right before the start of Gen-17. And that was because other users started communicating with me more (I think the first user I had a legitimate conversation with was FettiMC). Therefore more users knew more about me than just some random Linkin Park fan.

The second thing that really bugs me is this overwhelmingly serious and dramatic user base. And it's not just new users, older ones are much of a contribution to this as they are. In fact, I would say older users are only making this matter worse. By putting this stigma on the newer users to improve, when all it does is pressure them until they feel left out. Then you complain when someone tries to stir stings up, like it's some threat. And it makes perfect sense. This site is so boring with all the cynical veterans complaining on how terrible Gen-17 is. Lighten up, it's only a website. Why can't we have a little fun anymore. Stop being so pissy about the current user base and be mindful of them. Give them a chance to actually enjoy this site without being so cynical about a silly list that, of course is meaningless.

Wanna get real? This whole site is nothing but meaningless lists, coded in a certain way, so others can vote their picks. The reason there is even an user base is because of the sense of community. List-making is only a small fraction of what you can do here. Some people aren't as knowledgeable of things to make a list that stands out, but because of everything else, it still makes the site enjoyable for them.

Let them have their fun making their posts and comments. Let them create their own friend groups and talk to the users they like. Let them make dumb lists to pile up with all the other dumb lists created in the past 10 years of this site. Let the users be users. - cjWriter1997

All I ever do on the site nowadays is make posts. - visitor

Site functionality is also another thing to blame for this. Now in 2017, Admin turned this site with more functionality updates which encourage users to use this site to view and make lists. Honestly, more of the community-related lists that turn into featured lists kill the point of this site.

One thing is certain: community drama infecting lists could have been prevented if TTT forum was revived. - visitor

The users that actually do things are part of the community. Therefore community lists don't "kill" the site. - visitor

@Therandom, that is only half true. Let's face it, most community lists (posts are a different matter) are just low quality dating lists or comparison lists. Which I'm not complaining about. But you get my point. Plenty non community members are still around doing things - IronSabbathPriest
