The Top Ten
1 Roy Khan - Kamelot Roy Sætre Khantatat, is a Norwegian singer-songwriter. Commonly known as Roy Khan or simply Khan, he was the lead vocalist for the symphonic power metal band Kamelot from 1997 to his departure in 2011. He co-wrote most of Kamelot's songs with the band's guitarist and founder Thomas Youngblood during his tenure.

Roy sings his heart out...of all the incredible singers with unbelievable voices I've ever heard, none sings the way Roy sings. His voice is just intoxicating! Unfortunately it seems to be impossible to put that much emotion in and survive for long, so I'm glad he got out before anything worse happened. All the best to you Roy!

RE "Why is Tate on top. That's like...".
Tate is on top because I believe he's got the best vocals skills, even though he isn't among my favorite singers. And please read the list title more carefully - we are ranking the best singers among those who got some training.

Why is Tate on top. That's like putting James The Hett on this list because he had a vocal coach.

Roy studied opera for three years and it shows in his metal singing.

2 Floor Jansen - Nightwish, After Forever Floor Jansen is a Dutch singer-songwriter and vocal coach. She is currently vocalist of Nightwish and leader of Revamp.

Flips between complicated and difficult-to-master vocal styles as easily as the rest of us blink. Astounding breath support in insanely high registers, while still being able to sing the deeper sections. She uses her insane versatility to bring added dimensions to the already complex and dynamic mini-operas of Nightwish. There is nothing she cannot do. Every note is perfect, timing flawless. She stepped into one of the most contested and controversial lead vocalist positions in metal, that of Nightwish, where everybody would compare her to previous singers, especially Tarja Turunen, and, somehow, won over critics. Even those who prefer Tarja confess that she is a valid replacement, and admit that she possesses more power and versatility.

This vocalist is perfection. She is exciting, unpredictable, versatile, flawless, and has stage presence unlike anything Nightwish has ever known.

She's a classically trained soprano and vocal coach. She completed several years of music studies, which also included guitar, piano, flute, musical theatre and (one year of) opera.
She sings in the styles of rock and heavy metal genres such as symphonic, progressive and power metal. She is a versatile vocalist being able to sing from classical and operatic singing to powerful belting to aggressive and raspy vocals such as screaming and death growls.
Jansen started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999 and entered the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later.

She's the most versatile! From being in After Forever to ReVamp to Nightwish, she can growl, have agressive vocals and become operatic! She's better than all of the others here!

The classically female trained vocalists have amazing voices. Look how versatile Floor is.

It's said that Mr. Kyle is an extraordinary teacher. Lane Staley of Alice in Chains also trained with Maesto Kyle, as well as Ann and Nancy Wilson.
Tate's aunt was a professional opera singer.

I grew up on Geoff Tate. He's my favorite along with Ronnie James Dio and Bruce Dickenson.

8 Hansi Kürsch - Blind Guardian, Demons and Wizards Hansi Kürsch, born Hans Jürgen Kürsch, is the lead singer, lyricist, co-composer and bassist for German power metal band Blind Guardian . Heavily influenced by Freddie Mercury, he creates a huge choir effect by overdubbing his own voice multiple times in complex, overlapping vocal harmonies. He records each vocal track individually because harmonizers and "perfect pitch" programs don't work with his voice due to distortion and the natural double layer effects his vocal cords have .
His early technique made use of a more aggressive and harsher, "screaming" technique . ...read more.

Awesome singer but I didn't put him very high on this list because he began without any training. Hansi explained: "I would say my singing is natural but some of the skills I have nowadays are the result of constant practice. I didn't do anything to improve my vocal skills until our third album (1990). Afterwards I seriously started taking classical vocal lessons. My teacher is a female opera singer and taught me a lot about breathing and how to establish and widen my range."

I guess he studied vocals although I didn't find info about that. He doesn't play instruments so most probably it was vocals.
