Hidden Gems #42 Transformers: War for Cybertron

General Knowledge: Transformers was a show I can't say I have seen a lot of but I did like the idea of these two robots fighting over and over even if the plot is kinda over climatic. Where i'm I getting at exactly the show was so iconic G1 as its always refereed had many shows to come after it as well as many video games along the way some awful, others okay, and this one is probably what I feel is probably the best Transformers game I have played, and that's called War of Cybertron. The story is kinda goes back to that old feel of that cartoon at times. I have very vivid memories of this when it was brand new, and I gave it shot on a beta multiplayer testing, and I enjoyed the small sample given that's how I bought the full game. Back in 2010 it was a new thing that actually was a great way to play games that you may like or not like etc.

Concept: The story element is very unique I'd say. Choosing between the Autobots and Decepticons each side has a spin different that makes the game more compelling to say despite being very repetitive at times. ''The game revolves around the use of a substance known as Dark Energon, which the evil Decepticon leader Megatron believes will allow him to return the planet to what he refers to as a golden age.'' Fight your way to rule only to destroy what you have created on Cybertron on the opposing end of the spectrum. Like I said I got hooked on this game based on the look, and how it played like just it had great promise, and it delivered to this point so with more multiplayer to experience sadly the community I played against was very limited and not very many played this game. Modes your given are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Conquest (which the settings are like the old Star Wars Battlefront games), Countdown to Extinction (Think MW2's Demolition pretty much), Code of Power (CTF), & Power Struggle (Headquarters) which those three are self explanatory. There's also another mode called Escalation where you basically try to live as long as you can a survival mode without the overdone zombies.

One last thing before I touch the feeling from this game is that you get class setups for each side as well each have their own traits. Scouts can stealth really well, and their nimble. Scientists are the health pack of your squad, Leader has the most balance of all of them, and Soldier is you heavy guns slow, but very effective powerful attacks. This is also how it is with the story with each character having their own type of preference as well.

Gameplay: The feel is so right on, and the 3rd person aspect really drives this game from looking very polished even for 2010 this was very impressive. the vehicle controls work very well, and timed with some cars being powerful when transforming with a preference of a primary weapon given. when walking though you can actually switch your gun which is something i never fought would be possible in a Transformers game like this. Competitively in terms of players you face it's actually pretty unlike another game that I know of (Halo 4). If you get the chance if your a fan of cartoon you'll love this game guaranteed, but if your somebody looking for very good gems from this generation War for Cybertron ranks amongst the higher selections to recommend even if your not a fan of the franchise the game is very fun and a very underrated game knowing the history of how most Transformers games have been over the years best one of the bunch. I mean yeah at the time people played the likes of Red Dead Redemption, Call of Duty and Halo were still a big thing, and Alan Wake also around that same time makes me wonder how a great gem like this didn’t get its fame that it should of had.

Verdict: 9/10

Great review. I really enjoyed the game a lot and I still play it now despite some glitches. The escalation is my favorite part of the game and it's so much fun! - visitor
